| 1 | Ornithine decarboxylase, mitogen-activated protein kinase and matrix metalloproteinase-2 expressions in human colon tumors显示文摘AIM: To investigate the expressions of omithine decarboxylase (ODC), MMP-2, and Erk, and their relationship in human colon tumors.METHODS: ODC activity, MMP-2 expression, and mitogenactivated protein (MAP) kinase activity (Erk phosphorylation) were determined in 58 surgically removed human colon tumors and their adjacent normal tissues, using [1-14C]-ornithine as a substrate, ELISA assay, and Western blotting, respectively.RESULTS: ODC activity, MMP-2 expression, and Erk phosphorylation were significantly elevated in colon tumors, compared to those in adjacent normal tissues. A significant correlation was observed between ODC activities and MMP-2 levels.CONCLUSION: This is the first report showing a significant correlation between ODC activities and MMP-2 levels in human colon tumors. | 2 | Trend in gastric cancer:35 years of surgical experience in Japan显示文摘AIM:To investigate the trend in gastric cancer surgery in the context of rapid therapeutic advancement in Japan and East Asia.METHODS:A retrospective analysis was performed on 4163 patients who underwent gastric resection for gastric cancer with histological confirmation between 1971 and 2007 at the surgical unit in Kitasato University Hospital,to determine the trend in gastric cancer requiring surgery.RESULTS:Gastric cancer requiring surgical resection increased in our hospital,but the incidence adjusted for population was constant during the observed pe-riod.Interestingly,the ratio of diffuse type/intestinal type gastric cancer was unexpectedly unchanged,and that of advanced/early gastric cancer(EGC)was,however,markedly reduced,while the actual incidence of potentially curative advanced gastric cancer tended to decrease.The incidence of EGC requiring surgery tended to increase as a whole,which is consistent with increased prevalence of endoscopic surveillance.As a result,overall survival and mortality of gastric cancer requiring gastric resection has recently markedly improved.CONCLUSION:In Japan,planned interventions may improve surgical gastric cancer mortality,but an unexpected trend of persistent existence of intestinal type cancer suggests the need for more robust medical intervention. | Keishi Yamashita Shinichi Sakuramoto Masayuki Nemoto Tomotaka Shibata Hiroaki Mieno Natsuya Katada Shiroh Kikuchi Masahiko Watanabe | 2011 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2011，17，29： | 11 |
| 3 | Acute appendicitis following endoscopic mucosal resection of cecal adenoma显示文摘Endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR) allows the removal of flat or sessile lesions, laterally spreading tumors, and carcinoma of the colon or the rectum limited to the mucosa or the superficial submucosa. Acute appendicitis is the most common abdominal emergency requiring emergency surgery, and it is also a rare complication of diagnostic colonoscopy and therapeutic endoscopy, including EMR. In the case presented here, a 53-year-old female underwent colonoscopy due to a positive fecal occult blood test and was diagnosed with cecal adenoma. She was referred to our hospital and admitted for treatment. The patient had no other symptoms. EMR was performed, and 7 h after the surgery, the patient experienced right-lower abdominal pain. Laboratory tests performed the following day revealed a WBC count of 16000/mm3, a neutrophil count of 14144/mm3, and a C-reactive protein level of 2.20 mg/d L, indicating an inflammatory response. Computed tomography also revealed appendiceal wall thickening and swelling, so acute appendicitis following EMR was diagnosed. Antibiotics were initiated leading to total resolution of the symptoms, and the patient was discharged on the sixth post-operative day. Pathological analysis revealed a high-grade cecal tubular adenoma. | 4 | PRECIPITATION HARDENING IN B2-ORDERED NiAl BY Ni_(2)AlTi COMPOUND显示文摘Microstructural variations and correlated hardness changes in B2-ordered NiAl con- taining fine precipitation of NiAlTi have been investigated by means of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and hardness tests. The amount of age hardening is not large as compared to the large microstructural variations during aging. TEM obser- vations have revealed that the L21 -type Ni2 AITi precipitates keep a lattice coherency with the NiA1 matrix at the beginning of aging. By longer periods of aging Ni2AITi precipitates lose their coherency and change their morphology to the globular ones surrounded by misfit dislocations. The temperature dependence of the yield strength of precipitate-containing B2-ordered NiAl was investigated by compression tests over the temperature range of 873-1273K. The fine precipitation of Ni2 A1Ti was found to enhance greatly the yield strength and the high-temperature strength is comparison with that of superalloy Mar-M200. | W.H. Tian, K. Ohishi and M. | 5 | The spectral changes of partially coherent light focused by an apertured lens with chromatic aberration显示文摘The spectral changes of a partially coherent polychromatic light focused by an apertured lens with chromatic aberration are investigated. It is demonstrated that the spectrum in the focused field is different from that in the aperture. Comparing with the spectrum in the aperture, the spectrum in the focused field shifts to lower or higher frequency, which is defined as a spectral shift. The influence of chromatic aberration of the lens, the coherence of the partially coherent light in the aperture, the radius of the aperture, and the spectral width of the spectrum of the aperture on the spectral shift are investigated in detail. | 8 | QTL Analysis for Traits Associated with Feeding Value of Straw in Rice (Oryza sativa L.)显示文摘Genetic improvement of the digestibility of rice straw for increasing the utilization of the whole rice plant as feedstuffs is an important way to solve the feedstuffs shortage in southeastern China. To elucidate the genetic basis of the traits affecting the digestibility of rice straw, a rice population of 111 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from a cross of Nekken 2×Gaya was used to map the quantitative traits loci (QTLs) for in vitro dry matter digestion (IVDMD), the percentages of nonstructural carbohydrate (NSC) and acid detergent fiber (exclusive of residual ash, ADFom) in 2005 and 2006. IVDMD was positively correlated with NSC, and negatively correlated with ADFom. A total of 16 QTLs were detected in the two years, and the amounts of variation explained by individual QTLs ranged from 6.9% to 15.5%. Some QTLs for IVDMD and ADFom on chromosome 2 were detected in the two years. On chromosome 2, the interval RM475–RM3515 contained QTLs for IVDMD in the two years and for NSC in 2006 only, while the interval RM3874–RM5305 influenced ADFom in the two years and NSC in 2005 only. Fine precipitation of α-Fe (bcc structure) occurs in NiA1 by aging around 973K. The aging behavior was investigated by microhandness measurements and the temperature dependence of the yield strength of precipitate- comaining B2- ordered NiA1 was investigated by compression tests over the temperature range of 673-1273K. The fine precipitation of α-Fe was found to enhance greatly the low and intermediate temperature yield strength. When the deformation temperature is over 1073K, the strength of precipitate- containing NiA1 was comparable to ternary solid solution hardening NiA1-Fe.
