| 1 | Estimation of aboveground biomass using in situ hyperspectral measurements in five major grassland ecosystems on the Tibetan Plateau显示文摘Aims There are numerous grassland ecosystem types on the Tibetan Plateau.These include the alpine meadow and steppe and degraded alpine meadow and steppe.This study aimed at developing a method to estimate aboveground biomass(AGB)for these grasslands from hyperspectral data and to explore the feasibility of applying air/satellite-borne remote sensing techniques to AGB estimation at larger scales.Methods We carried out a field survey to collect hyperspectral reflectance and AGB for five major grassland ecosystems on the Tibetan Plateau and calculated seven narrow-band vegetation indices and the vegetation index based on universal pattern decomposition(VIUPD)from the spectra to estimate AGB.First,we investigated correlations between AGB and each of these vegetation indices to identify the best estimator of AGB for each ecosystem type.Next,we estimated AGB for the five pooled ecosystem types by developing models containing dummy variables.At last,we compared the predictions of simple regression models and the models containing dummy variables to seek an ecosystem type-independent model to improve prediction of AGB for these various grassland ecosystems from hyperspectral measurements.Important findings When we considered each ecosystem type separately,all eight vegetation indices provided good estimates of AGB,with the best predictor of AGB varying among different ecosystems.When AGB of all the five ecosystems was estimated together using a simple linear model,VIUPD showed the lowest prediction error among the eight vegetation indices.The regression models containing dummy variables predicted AGB with higher accuracy than the simple models,which could be attributed to the dummy variables accounting for the effects of ecosystem type on the relationship between AGB and vegetation index(VI).These results suggest that VIUPD is the best predictor of AGB among simple regression models.Moreover,both VIUPD and the soil-adjusted VI could provide accurate estimates of AGB with dummy variables integrated in regression models.Therefore,ground-based hyperspectral measurements are useful for estimating AGB,which indicates the potential of applying satellite/airborne remote sensing techniques to AGB estimation of these grasslands on the Tibetan Plateau. | Miaogen Shen Yanhong Tang Julia Klein Pengcheng Zhang Song Gu Ayako Shimono Jin Chen | 2008 | Journal of Plant Ecology2008,1,4: | 10 |

| 3 | Use of genotype-environment interactions to elucidate the pattern of maize root plasticity to nitrogen deficiency显示文摘Maize(Zea mays L.) root morphology exhibits a high degree of phenotypic plasticity to nitrogen(N) de ficiency,but the underlying genetic architecture remains to be investigated Using an advanced BC_4F_3 population,we investigated the root growth plasticity under two contrasted N levels and identi fied the quantitative trait loci(QTLs) with QTL-environment(Q×E)interaction effects. Principal components analysis(PCA) on changes of root traits to N de ficiency(D LN-HN) showed that root length and biomass contributed for 45.8% in the same magnitude and direction on the first PC,while root traits scattered highly on PC_2 and PC_3. Hierarchical cluster analysis on traits for D LN-HN further assigned the BC_4F_3 lines into six groups,in which the special phenotypic responses to N de ficiency was presented These results revealed the complicated root plasticity of maize in response to N de ficiency that can be caused by genotype environment(G×E) interactions. Furthermore,QTL mapping using a multi-environment analysis identi fied 35 QTLs for root traits. Nine of these QTLs exhibited signi ficant Q×E interaction effects. | 4 | Altitudinal variation of ecosystem CO_(2) fluxes in an alpine grassland from 3600 to 4200 m显示文摘Aims Recent studies have recognized the alpine grasslands on the Qinghai-Tibetan plateau as a significant sink for atmospheric CO_(2).The carbon-sink strength may differ among grassland ecosystems at various altitudes because of contrasting biotic and physical environments.This study aims(i)to clarify the altitudinal pattern of ecosystem CO_(2) fluxes,including gross primary production(GPP),daytime ecosystem respiration(Redaytime)and net ecosystem production(NEP),during the period with peak above-ground biomass;and(ii)to elucidate the effects of biotic and abiotic factors on the altitudinal variation of ecosystem CO_(2) fluxes.Methods Ecosystem CO_(2) fluxes and abiotic and biotic environmental factors were measured in an alpine grassland at four altitudes from 3600 to 4200 m along a slope of the Qilian Mountains on the northwestern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau during the growing season of 2007.We used a closed-chamber method combined with shade screens and an opaque cloth to measure several carbon fluxes,GPP,Redaytime and NEP,and factors,light-response curve for GPP and temperature sensitivity of Redaytime.Above-and below-ground biomasses and soil C and N contents at each measurement point were also measured.Important Findings(i)Altitudinal pattern of ecosystem CO_(2) fluxes:The maximum net ecosystem CO_(2) flux(NEPmax),i.e.the potential ecosystem CO_(2) sink strength,was markedly different among the four altitudes.NEPmax was higher at the highest and lowest sites,ap proximately7.460.9 and6.760.6 lmol CO_(2) m^(-2)s^(-1)(mean 6 standard error),respectively,but smaller at the intermediate altitude sites(3800 and 4000 m).The altitudinal pattern of maximum gross primary production was similar to that of NEPmax.The Redaytime,however,was significantly higher at the lowest altitude(3.460.3 lmol CO_(2) m^(-2)s^(-1))than at the other three altitudes.(ii)Altitudinal variation of vegetation biomass:The aboveground biomass was higher at the highest altitude(154627 g DW m2)than at the other altitudes,which we attribute mainly to the large biomass in cushion plants at the highest altitude.The small above-ground biomass at the lower altitudes was probably due to heavy grazing during the growing season.(iii)Features of ecosystem CO_(2) fluxes:Redaytime and GPP were positively correlated with above-ground biomass.The low ratio of Redaytime to GPP at either the measurement point or the site level suggests that CO_(2) uptake efficiency tends to be higher at higher altitudes,which indicates a high potential sink strength for atmospheric CO_(2) despite the low temperature at high altitudes.The results suggest that the effect of grazing intensity on ecosystem carbon dynamics,partly by decreasing vegetation biomass,should be clarified further. | Mitsuru Hirota Pengcheng Zhang Song Gu Mingyuan Du Ayako Shimono Haihua Shen Yingnian Li Yanhong Tang | 2009 | Journal of Plant Ecology2009,2,4: | 6 |
| 5 | Inflection point: a perspective on photonic nanojets显示文摘When light propagates through the edge or middle part of a microparticle’s incoming interface,there is a basic rule that light converges and diverges rapidly or slowly at the output port. These two parts are referred to as the region of rapid change (RRC) and region of slow change (RSC),respectively. Finding the boundary point between RRC and RSC is the key to reveal and expound upon this rule scientifically. Based on the correlation between light convergence–divergence and the slope of emergent light,combined with the relationship between a natural logarithm and growth in physical reality and the second derivative of a function in practical significance,we determine the boundary point between RRC and RSC,namely,the inflection point. From such a perspective,a photonic nanojet (PNJ) and near-field focusing by light irradiation on RSC and RRC,as well as the position of the inflection point under different refractive index contrasts and the field distribution of light focusing,are studied with finite-element-method-based numerical simulation and ray-optics-based theoretical analysis. | 7 | Computational Identification of Protein-Protein Interactions in Rice Based on the Predicted Rice Interactome Network显示文摘Plant protein-protein interaction networks have not been identified by large-scale experiments. In order to better understand the protein interactions in rice, the Predicted Rice Interactome Network (PRIN; http://gffzz138305caccaf4191hn0vnf0o6690p6onx.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/ prin/) presented 76,585 predicted interactions involving 5,049 rice proteins. After mapping genomic features of rice (GO annotation, subcellular localization prediction, and gene expression), we found that a well-annotated and biologically significant network is rich enough to capture many significant functional linkages within higher-order biological systems, such as pathways and biological processes. Furthermore, we took MADS-box do- main-containing proteins and circadian rhythm signaling pathways as examples to demonstrate that functional protein complexes and biological pathways could be effectively expanded in our predicted network. | 9 | One-pot synthesis of arginine modified hydroxyapatite carbon microsphere composites for efficient removal of U(Ⅵ) from aqueous solutions显示文摘Uranium was not only the main source of nuclear energy but also one of the long-lived radionuclide.Herein, a novel arginine modified hydroxyapatite carbon microsphere composites(defined as C@HAp/Arg) obtained promptly via a one-step mild hydrothermal method, was applied to remove U(Ⅵ) from aqueous solutions. Based on the characterization of transmission electron microscopy(TEM), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR), X-ray diffraction(XRD)and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), the synthesized C@HAp/Arg presented globular morphology and abundant functional groups(e.g., —COO^-), which were beneficial to its combination with U(Ⅵ). The interaction mechanism and removal capability of U(Ⅵ) on C@HAp/Arg were studied by batch adsorption technique and spectroscopy analysis. The results implied that U(Ⅵ) can form strong surface complexes on C@HAp/Arg. The kinetics adsorption of U(Ⅵ) followed pseudo-second-order kinetic model with high removal efficiency($95% within 5h at pH 5.0). The adsorption isotherms were well fitted by Langmuir model, implying that U(Ⅵ) uptake on C@HAp/Arg was monolayer coverage. It was found that the maximum adsorption capacities of CSs, C@HAp and C@HAp/Arg toward U(Ⅵ) were calculated to be 23.16,72.09 and 569.66 mg/g, respectively, at 298.15 K and pH 5.0, and thermodynamic parameters revealed that the adsorption processes of U(Ⅵ) were spontaneous and endothermic. In addition, effect of co-existed ions and CO_3^(2-)concentrations demonstrated that U(Ⅵ) adsorption on C@HAp/Arg was weakly interfered by foreign ions and carbonate concentrations. More importantly, the adsorption performance of U(Ⅵ) on C@HAp/Arg was still over $87% after five cycles. | 11 | Rice FLOURY ENDOSPERM22, encoding a pentatricopeptide repeat protein, is involved in both mitochondrial RNA splicing and editing and is crucial for endosperm development显示文摘Most of the reported P-type pentatricopeptide repeat(PPR) proteins play roles in organelle RNA stabilization and splicing. However, P-type PPRs involved in both RNA splicing and editing have rarely been reported, and their underlying mechanism remains largely unknown. Here, we report a rice floury endosperm22(flo22) mutant with delayed amyloplast development in endosperm cells. Map-based cloning and complementation tests demonstrated that FLO22 encodes a mitochondrion-localized P-type PPR protein.Mutation of FLO22 resulting in defective transsplicing of mitochondrial nad1 intron 1 and perhaps causing instability of mature transcripts affected assembly and activity of complex Ⅰ, and mitochondrial morphology and function. RNA-seq analysis showed that expression levels of many genes involved in starch and sucrose metabolism were significantly down-regulated in the flo22mutant compared with the wild type, whereas genes related to oxidative phosphorylation and the tricarboxylic acid cycle were significantly upregulated. In addition to involvement in splicing as a P-type PPR protein, we found that FLO22 interacted with DYW3, a DYW-type PPR protein, and they may function synergistically in mitochondrial RNA editing. | 17 | The eff ects of temperature and host size on the development of Brachymeria lasus parasitising Hyphantria cunea显示文摘Brachymeria lasus Walker is a solitary endoparasitoid that attacks the pupae of a wide range of lepidopteran hosts,including an important invasive species,the fall webworm(Hyphantria cunea Drury).We studied the relationship between temperature and development of B.lasus from egg to adult hatching.The results show a decrease in parasitoid development time from 34.4 days at 18°C to 10.6 days at 32°C.The minimum threshold temperature of B.lasus was 13.2°C±1.7°C,and the eff ective accumulated temperature was 210.3±28.7 degree days.These results provide a basis for optimizing the production of this parasitoid.In addition,the eff ects of host size on off spring performance of B.lasus were investigated under laboratory conditions.Off spring longevity,size,and percentage of females were positively correlated with host size.Female off spring are larger and live longer than males.Furthermore,this research showed that parasitoid adults successfully emerged from approximately 27.9%of pupae.However,eclosion or hatching of H.cunea decreased dramatically,which may be due to damage caused by female B.lasus when testing hosts with their ovipositors or by feeding on them.The results suggest that B.lasus has the potential to become an effi cient natural enemy for controlling H.cunea. | Shuo Tian Tianzi Gu Cong Chen Xudong Zhao Pengcheng Liu Dejun Hao | 2021 | Journal of Forestry Research2021,32,1: | 0 |
