1BMAL1 knockout macaque monkeys display reduced sleep and psychiatric disorders显示文摘Circadian disruption is a risk factor for metabolic, psychiatric and age-related disorders, and non-human primate models could help to develop therapeutic treatments. Here, we report the generation of BMAL1 knockout cynomolgus monkeys for circadian-related disorders by CRISPR/Cas9 editing of monkey embryos. These monkeys showed higher nocturnal locomotion and reduced sleep, which was further exacerbated by a constant light regimen. Physiological circadian disruption was reflected by the markedly dampened and arrhythmic blood hormonal levels. Furthermore, BMAL1-deficient monkeys exhibited anxiety and depression, consistent with their stably elevated blood cortisol, and defective sensory processing in auditory oddball tests found in schizophrenia patients. Ablation of BMAL1 up-regulated transcriptional programs toward inflammatory and stress responses, with transcription networks associated with human sleep deprivation, major depressive disorders, and aging. 2A Novel Dynamic Stretching Solution to Eliminate Saturation Effect in NDVI and Its Application in Drought Monitoring显示文摘The normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI) is one of the key input variables for developing drought indices.However,the NDVI quickly saturates in high vegetation surfaces,and thus,the generalization of a drought index over different ecosystems becomes a challenge.This paper presents a novel,dynamic stretching algorithm to overcome the saturation effect in NDVI.A scaling transformation function to eliminate saturation effects when the vegetation fraction(VF) is large is proposed.Dynamic range adjustment is conducted using three coefficients,namely,the normalization factor(a),the stretching range controlling factor(m),and the stretching size controlling factor(e).The results show that the stretched NDVI(S-NDVI) is more sensitive to vegetation fraction than NDVI when the VF is large,ranging from 0.75 to 1.00.Moreover,the saturation effect in NDVI is effectively removed by using the S-NDVI.Further analysis suggests that there is a good linear correlation between the S-NDVI and the leaf area index(LAI).At the same time,the proposed S-NDVI significantly reduces or even eliminates the saturation effect over high biomass.A comparative analysis is performed between drought indices derived from NDVI and S-NDVI,respectively.In the experiment,reflectance data from the moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer(MODIS) products and in-situ observation data from the meteorological sites at a regional scale are used.In this study,the coefficient of determination(R2) of the stretched drought index(S-DI) is above 0.5,indicating the reliability of the proposed algorithm with surface soil moisture content.Thus,the S-DI is suggested to be used as a drought index in extended regions,thus regional heterogeneity should be taken into account when applying stretching method.LIU Fang QIN Qiming ZHAN Zhiming 2012Chinese Geographical Science2012,22,6:2
3An approach to wide-field imaging of linear rail ground-based SAR in high squint multi-angle mode显示文摘Ground-based synthetic aperture radar(GB-SAR) has been successfully applied to the ground deformation monitoring.However, due to the short length of the GB-SAR platform, the scope of observation is largely limited. The practical applications drive us to make improvements on the conventional linear rail GB-SAR system in order to achieve larger field imaging. First, a turntable is utilized to support the rotational movement of the radar.Next, a series of high-squint scanning is performed with multiple squint angles. Further, the high squint modulation phase of the echo data is eliminated. Then, a new multi-angle imaging method is performed in the wave number domain to expand the field of view. 5Estimation of chlorophyll content in Brassica napus based on unmanned aerial vehicle images显示文摘The chlorophyll content has a direct effect on photosynthesis of crops.In order to explore a quick and convenient method for estimating the chlorophyll content of Brassica napus and facilitate efficient crop monitoring,we measured the actual value of chlorophyll with a SPAD-502 chlorophyll detector,and collected aerial images of B.napus with an unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)carrying a RGB camera in this study.The total number of 270samples collected images were divided into regions according to the planting conditions of different B.napus varieties in the field.Then,according to the empirical formula,there were 36 colors’characteristic parameters calculated and combined.To estimate the chlorophyll content of rape,189 samples were included in the modeling set,while the other 81 samples were enrolled in the validation set for testing the accuracy of this model.After the combination of R(red),G(green)and B(blue)color channels,the results showed that the color characteristics B/(R+G),b,B/G,(G-B)/(G+B),g-b were highly connected with the measured value of chlorophyll SPAD,and the correlation coefficient between the combination based on B/(R+G)and SPAD value was 0.747.With R2=0.805,RMSE=3.343,and RE=6.84%,the regression model created using random forest had superior outcomes,according to the model comparison.This study offers a new method for quickly estimating the amount of chlorophyll in rapeseed and a workable reference for crop monitoring using the UAV platform.Yayi Huang Qiming Ma Xiaoming Wu Hao Li Kun Xu Gaoxiang Ji Fang Qian Lixia Li Qian Huang Ying Long Xiaojun Zhang Biyun Chen Changhua Liu 2022Oil Crop Science2022,7,3:1

7Clapping and Broadcasting Synchronization in Wireless Sensor Networks显示文摘The Clapping and Broadcasting Synchronization (CBS) algorithm,which is specifically designed for large-scale sensor networks with low communication overhead and high synchronization accuracy,is introduced.The CBS protocol uses broadcasting rather than pairwise communication to accomplish synchronization.In the CBS scheme,the initial offset of local clocks can be successfully eliminated by the operation of clapping nodes,which leads to significant improvement in synchronization accuracy.The CBS protocol was implemented on the TelosB platform and its performance was evaluated in a variety of experiments.The results demonstrate that the CBS protocol outperforms the current state-of-the-art approach,the Flooding Time Synchronization Protocol (FTSP),in both single-hop and multi-hop scenarios in terms of synchronous precision and energy consumption.In multi-hop scenarios,the CBS algorithm keeps about 50% of its synchronization errors within 1 ms.In comparison,the FTSP keeps less than 7% of its synchronization errors within this range.In both single-hop and multi-hop scenarios,the CBS protocol is over 3.2 times more energy-efficient than the FTSP.Xingfa Shen Xin Qian Bei Zhao Qiming Fang Guojun Dai 2011Tsinghua Science and Technology2011,16,6:1

11Multiplexed imaging of tumor immune microenvironmental markers in locally advanced or metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer characterizes the features of response to PD-1 blockade plus chemotherapy显示文摘Background:Although programmed cell death 1(PD-1)blockade plus chemotherapy can significantly prolong the progression-free survival(PFS)and overall survival(OS)in first-line settings in patients with driver-negative advanced non-small-cell lung cancer(NSCLC),the predictive biomarkers remain undetermined.Here,we investigated the predictive value of tumor immune microenvironmental marker expression to characterize the response features to PD-1 blockade plus chemotherapy.Methods:Tumor tissue samples at baseline were prospectively collected from 144 locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC patients without driver gene alterations who received camrelizumab plus chemotherapy or chemotherapy alone.Tumor immune microenvironmental markers,including PD-1 ligand(PDL1),CD8,CD68,CD4 and forkhead box P3,were assessed using multiplex immunofluorescence(mIF)assays.Kaplan-Meier curveswere used to determine treatment outcome differences according to their expression status.Mutational profiles were compared between tumors with distinct expression levels of these markers and their combinations.Results:Responders had significantly higher CD8/PD-L1(P=0.015)or CD68/PD-L1 co-expression levels(P=0.021)than non-responders in the camrelizumab plus chemotherapy group,while no difference was observed in the chemotherapy group.Patients with high CD8/PD-L1 or CD68/PD-L1 co-expression level was associated with significantly longer PFS(P=0.002,P=0.024;respectively)and OS(P=0.006,P=0.026;respectively)than those with low co-expression in camrelizumab plus chemotherapy group.When comparing survival in the camrelizumab plus chemotherapy with chemotherapy by CD8/PD-L1 co-expression stratification,significantly better PFS(P=0.003)and OS(P=0.032)were observed in high co-expression subgroups.The predictive value of CD8/PD-L1 and CD68/PD-L1 co-expression remained statistically significant for PFS and OS when adjusting clinicopathological features.Although the prevalence of TP53 or KRAS mutations was similar between patients with and without CD8/PD-L1 or CD68/PD-L1 co-expression,the positive groups had a significantly higher proportion of TP53/KRAS co-mutations than the negative groups(both 13.0%vs.0.0%,P=0.023).Notably,enriched PI3K(P=0.012)and cell cycle pathway(P=0.021)were found in the CD8/PD-L1 co-expression group.Conclusion:Tumor immune microenvironmental marker expression,especially CD8/PD-L1 or CD68/PD-L1 co-expression,was associated with the efficacy of PD-1 blockade plus chemotherapy as first-line treatment in patients with advanced NSCLC.Fengying Wu Tao Jiang Gongyan Chen Yunchao Huang Jianying Zhou Lizhu Lin Jifeng Feng Zhehai Wang Yongqian Shu Jianhua Shi Yi Hu Qiming Wang Ying Cheng Jianhua Chen Xiaoyan Lin Yongsheng Wang Jianan Huang Jiuwei Cui Lejie Cao Yunpeng Liu Yiping Zhang Yueyin Pan Jun Zhao LiPing Wang Jianhua Chang Qun Chen Xiubao Ren Wei Zhang Yun Fan Zhiyong He Jian Fang Kangsheng Gu Xiaorong Dong Tao Zhang Wei Shi Jianjun Zou Xuejuan Bai Shengxiang Ren Caicun Zhou 2022Cancer Communications2022,42,12:1
12Long-Term Trend Analysis of Major Human Helminth Infections — Guangdong Province, China, 1988–2021显示文摘Introduction:Although helminth infections threaten millions of people worldwide,the spatiotemporal characteristics remain unclear across China.This study systematically describes the spatiotemporal changes of major human helminth infections and their epidemiological characteristics from 1988 to 2021 in Guangdong Province,China.Methods:The survey data in Guangdong Province were primarily obtained from 3 national surveys implemented during 1988–1992,2001–2004,and 2014–2016,respectively,and from the China Information System for Disease Control and Prevention during 2019–2021.A modified Kato-Katz technique was used to detect parasite eggs in collected fecal samples.Results:The overall standardized infection rates(SIRs)of any soil-transmitted helminths(STH)and Clonorchis sinensis decreased from 65.27%during 1988–1992 to 4.23%during 2019–2021.In particular,the SIRs of STH had even more of a decrease,from 64.41%during 1988–1992 to 0.31%during 2019–2021.The SIRs of Clonorchis sinensis in the 4 surveys were 2.40%,12.17%,5.20%,and 3.93%,respectively.This study observed different permutations of gender,age,occupation,and education level on the SIRs of helminths.Conclusions:The infection rate of STH has substantially decreased.However,the infection rate of Clonorchis sinensis has had fewer changes,and it has become the dominant helminth.Yueyi Fang Jiong Wang Guanhao He Qiming Zhang Jianpeng Xiao Jianxiong Hu Zuhua Rong Lihua Yin Fangfang Zeng Pan Yang Xiaomei Dong Dan Liu Xiaofeng Liang Zhuohui Deng Tao Liu Wenjun Ma 2022China CDC weekly2022,4,41:1

15Forecasting traffic flows in irregular regions with multi-graph显示文摘The prediction of regional traffic flows is important for traffic control and management in an intelligent traffic system.With the help of deep neural networks,the convolutional neural network or residual neural network,which can be applied only to regular grids,is adopted to capture the spatial dependence for flow prediction.However,the obtained regions are always irregular considering the road network and administrative boundaries;thus,dividing the city into grids is inaccurate for prediction.In this paper,we propose a new model based on multi-graph convolutional network and gated recurrent unit(MGCN-GRU)to predict traffic flows for irregular regions.Specifically,we first construct heterogeneous inter-region graphs for a city to reflect the rela-tionships among regions.In each graph,nodes represent the irregular regions and edges represent the relationship types between regions.Then,we propose a multi-graph convolutional network to fuse different inter-region graphs and additional attributes.The GRU is further used to capture the temporal dependence and to predict future traffic flows.Experimental results based on three real-world large-scale datasets(public bicycle system dataset,taxi dataset,and dockless bike-sharing dataset)show that our MGCN-GRU model outperforms a variety of existing methods.Dewen SENG Fanshun LV Ziyi LIANG Xiaoying SHI Qiming FANG 2021Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering2021,22,9:1
16Similarities and Differences of CT Features between COVID-19 Pneumonia and Heart Failure显示文摘Aims:During the COVID-19 epidemic,chest computed tomography(CT)has been highly recommended for screen-ing of patients with suspected COVID-19 because of an unclear contact history,overlapping clinical features,and an overwhelmed health system.However,there has not been a full comparison of CT for diagnosis of heart failure or COVID-19 pneumonia.Methods:Patients with heart failure(n=23)or COVID-19 pneumonia(n=23)and one patient with both diseases were retrospectively enrolled.Clinical information and chest CT images were obtained and analyzed.Results:There was no difference in ground-glass opacity,consolidation,crazy paving pattern,the lobes affected,and septal thickening between heart failure and COVID-19 pneumonia.However,a less rounded morphology(4%vs.70%,P=0.00092),more peribronchovascular thickening(70%vs.35%,P=0.018)and fi ssural thickening(43%vs.4%,P=0.002),and less peripheral distribution(30%vs.87%,P=0.00085)were found in the heart failure group than in the COVID-19 group.Importantly,there were also more patients with upper pulmonary vein enlargement(61%vs.4%,P=0.00087),subpleural effusion(50%vs.0%,P=0.00058),and cardiac enlargement(61%vs.4%,P=0.00075)in the heart failure group than in the COVID-19 group.Besides,more fi brous lesions were found in the COVID-19 group,although there was no statistical difference(22%vs.4%,P=0.080).Conclusions:Although there is some overlap of CT features between heart failure and COVID-19,CT is still a useful tool for differentiating COVID-19 pneumonia.Zhaowei Zhu Jianjun Tang Xiangping Chai Zhenfei Fang Qiming Liu Xinqun Hu Danyan Xu Jia He Liang Tang Shi Tai Yuzhi Wu Shenghua Zhou 2021Cardiovascular Innovations and Applications2021,,3:0
17Agronomic effectiveness of recovered phosphate fertilizer produced from incinerated sewage sludge ash显示文摘Phosphorus(P)recovery from incinerated sewage sludge ash(ISSA)has been extensively investigated,but insufficient research has been conducted to evaluate the effect of different kinds of recovered phosphate fertilizers(RPFs)on plant growth with respect to the P and heavy metal contents of RPFs.In this study,three kinds of RPFs,precipitated calcium phosphate fertilizer(CaP),struvite phosphate fertilizer(SP),and P-loaded biochar(BP),produced from ISSA were characterized,and their agronomic effectiveness was verified by hydroponic and soil cultivation.In addition to the three kinds of RPFs,a control group(mono-phosphate fertilizer in hydroponic group/compound fertilizer in soil cultivation group)and a blank control group(BC,with zero P)were tested on choy sum and ryegrass at the same time.SP has the highest P purity(76.0%of struvite)while the BP has the most complex P species(P was co-exist with Fe,Al,and Mg).Plant growth results showed that the RPFs greatly facilitated plant growth and demonstrated superior/comparable effects to those of control group.In hydroponics testing,SP showed the best effect(shoot length of 17.0 cm,chlorophyll content of 2.05 mg/g)due to the Mg involved and the high P purity of SP,while BP performed the best(shoot length of 13.7 cm,chlorophyll content of 2.42 mg/g)in the soil testing system among all of the groups because of the additional nutritional elements and the high P availability of BP.Additionally,the accumulation of heavy metals in the plants under all conditions did not exceed the limits stipulated in the regulations.These results indicate that recovering P from ISSA is an attractive technology to produce P fertilizers,which can alleviate both the scarcity of phosphate resources and the burden of ISSA management.Le Fang Liping Li Qiming Wang Jiang-shan Li Chi Sun Poon 2022Waste Disposal and Sustainable Energy2022,4,2:0
18MAML^(2):meta reinforcement learning via meta-learning for task categories显示文摘Meta-learning has been widely applied to solving few-shot reinforcement learning problems,where we hope to obtain an agent that can learn quickly in a new task.However,these algorithms often ignore some isolated tasks in pursuit of the average performance,which may result in negative adaptation in these isolated tasks,and they usually need sufficient learning in a stationary task distribution.In this paper,our algorithm presents a hierarchical framework of double meta-learning,and the whole framework includes classification,meta-learning,and re-adaptation.Firstly,in the classification process,we classify tasks into several task subsets,considered as some categories of tasks,by learned parameters of each task,which can separate out some isolated tasks thereafter.Secondly,in the meta-learning process,we learn category parameters in all subsets via meta-learning.Simultaneously,based on the gradient of each category parameter in each subset,we use meta-learning again to learn a new metaparameter related to the whole task set,which can be used as an initial parameter for the new task.Finally,in the re-adaption process,we adapt the parameter of the new task with two steps,by the meta-parameter and the appropriate category parameter successively.Experimentally,we demonstrate our algorithm prevents the agent from negative adaptation without losing the average performance for the whole task set.Additionally,our algorithm presents a more rapid adaptation process within readaptation.Moreover,we show the good performance of our algorithm with fewer samples as the agent is exposed to an online meta-learning setting.Qiming FU Zhechao WANG Nengwei FANG Bin XING Xiao ZHANG Jianping CHEN 2023Frontiers of Computer Science2023,17,4:0
19Fluorescent Nile blue-functionalized poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)microgels responsive to temperature and polyamines显示文摘Fluorescent poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-Nile blue)(pNIPAm-co-NB)microgels were synthesized that exhibited fluorescence intensity changes in a water temperature-dependent fashion.NB is well known to exhibit fluorescence intensity that depends on the hydrophobicity of the environment,while pNIPAm-based microgels are well known to transition from swollen(hydrophilic)to collapsed(relatively hydrophobic)at temperatures greater than 32℃;hence,we attribute the above behavior to the hydrophobicity changes of the microgels with increasing temperature.This phenomenon is ultimately due to NB dimers(relatively quenched fluorescence)being broken in the hydrophobic environment of the microgels leading to relatively enhanced fluorescence.We went on to show that the introduction of cucurbit[7]uril(CB[7])into the pNIPAm-co-NB microgels enhanced their fluorescence allowing them to be used for polyamine(e.g.,spermine[SPM])detection.Specifically,CB[7]forms a host–guest interaction with NB in the microgels,which prevents NB dimerization and enhances their fluorescence.When SPM is present,it forms a host–guest complex that is favored over the CB[7]-NB host–guest interaction,which frees the NB for dimerization and leads to fluorescence quenching.As a result,we could generate an SPM sensor capable of SPM detection down to~0.5µmol/L in complicated matrixes such as serum and urine.Qiming Shen Changhao Fang Liang Hu Michael J.Serpe 2024SmartMat2024,5,2:0
20Differential gene expression in the body wall of the sea cucumber(Apostichopus japonicus)under strong lighting and dark conditions显示文摘Sea cucumber, Apostichopus japonicus is very sensitive to light changes. It is important to study the influence of light on the molecular response of A. japonicus. In this study, RNA-seq provided a general overview of the gene expression profiles of the body walls of A. japonicus exposed to strong light('light'), normal light('control') and fully dark('dark') environment. In the comparisons of 'control' vs. 'dark', 'control' vs. 'light' and 'dark' vs.'light', 1 161, 113 and 1 705 differentially expressed genes(DEGs) were identified following the criteria of|log_2 ratio|≥1 and FDR≤0.001, respectively. Gene ontology analysis showed that 'cellular process' and 'binding'enriched the most DEGs in the category of 'biological process' and 'molecular function', while 'cell' and 'cell part' enriched the most DEGs in the category of 'cellular component'. And the DEGs were mapped to 214, 41 and229 pathways in the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes database, and 51, 2 and 57 pathways were significantly enriched, respectively.
