242,573 cases of hepatectomy in China: a multicenter retrospective investigation显示文摘Hepatectomy is currently routinely performed in most hospitals in China. China owns the largest population of liver diseases and the biggest number of liver resection cases. A nationwide multicenter retrospective investigation involving 112 hospitals was performed, and focused on liver resection for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). 42,573 cases of hepatectomy were enrolled, and 18,275 valid cases of liver resection for HCC patients were selected for statistical analysis. The epidemiology of HCC, distribution of hepatectomy, postoperative complications and prognosis were finally analyzed. In the 18,275 HCC patients,81% had hepatitis B virus infection and 10% had hepatitis C virus infection. 38% of the HCC patients had normal Alphafetoprotein(AFP) level, and other 35% had an AFP level lower than 400 ng mL^(-1). In the study period, 97% of the hepatectomy for HCC were treated with open surgery, and 23.81% had vascular exclusion techniques. The operation time was(191.7±105.6) min,the blood loss was(546.0±562.8) m L, and blood transfusion was(543.0±1,035.2) m L. The median survival for HCC patients was 631 days, with 1-, 3-, and 5-year overall survival of 73.2%, 28.8% and 19.6%, respectively. Liver cirrhosis, multiple nodules, tumor thrombosis and high AFP level were risk factors that affect postoperative survival.Binhao Zhang Bixiang Zhang Zhiwei Zhang Zhiyong Huang Yifa Chen Minshan Chen Ping Bie Baogang Peng Liqun Wu Zhiming Wang Bo Li Jia Fan Lunxiu Qin Ping Chen Jingfeng Liu Zhe Tang Jun Niu Xinmin Yin Deyu Li Songqing He Bin Jiang Yilei Mao Weiping Zhou Xiaoping Chen 2018Science China(Life Sciences)2018,61,6:39
3Exploring an Integrative Therapy for Treating COVID-19:A Randomized Controlled Trial显示文摘Objectives:To develop a new Chinese medicine(CM)-based drug and to evaluate its safety and effect for suppressing acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS)in COVID-19 patients. Methods:A putative ARDS-suppressing drug Keguan-1 was first developed and then evaluated by a randomized, controlled two-arm trial. The two arms of the trial consist of a control therapy(alpha interferon inhalation,50(x g twice daily;and lopinavir/ritonavir,400 and 100 mg twice daily, respectively)and a testing therapy(control therapy plus Keguan-119.4 g twice daily)by random number table at 1:1 ratio with 24 cases each group. After 2-week treatment, adverse events, time to fever resolution,ARDS development, and lung injury on newly diagnosed COVID-19 patients were assessed. Results:An analysis of the data from the first 30 participants showed that the control arm and the testing arm did not exhibit any significant differences in terms of adverse events.Based on this result, the study was expanded to include a total of 48 participants(24 cases each arm). The results show that compared with the control arm,the testing arm exhibited a significant improvement in time to fever resolution(P=0.035),and a significant reduction in the development of ARDS(P=0.048).Conclusions:Keguan-1-based integrative therapy was safe and superior to the standard therapy in suppressing the development of ARDS in COVID-19 patients.(Trial registration No.NCT 04251871 at www.clinicaltrials.gov).WANG Jia-bo WANG Zhong-xia JING Jing ZHAO Peng DONG Jing-hui ZHOU Yong-feng YANG Guang NIU Ming ZHAO Xu JIANG Tian-jun Bl Jing-feng XU Zhe ZHANG Ping WU Dan BAI Zhao-fang GUO Yu-ming YU Si-miao SUN Yong-qiang ZHANG Zi-teng ZHAN Xiao-yan LI Peng-yan DING Jin-biao ZHAO Peng-fei SONG Xue-ai TANG Jian-yuan HE Dong-chu CHEN Zhu QIN En-qiang WANG Rui-lin XIAO Xiao-he 2020Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine2020,26,9:18
4A phase I study of different doses and frequencies of pegylated recombinant human granulocyte-colony stimulating factor(PEG rhG-CSF) in patients with standard-dose chemotherapy-induced neutropenia显示文摘Objective: The recommended dose of prophylactic pegylated recombinant human granulocyte-colony stimulating factor(PEG rhG-CSF) is 100 μg/kg once per cycle for patients receiving intense-dose chemotherapy. However, few data are available on the proper dose for patients receiving less-intense chemotherapy. The aim of this phase I study is to explore the proper dose and administration schedule of PEG rhG-CSF for patients receiving standard-dose chemotherapy. Methods:Eligible patients received 3-cycle chemotherapy every 3 weeks. No PEG rhG-CSF was given in the first cycle.Patients experienced grade 3 or 4 neutropenia would then enter the cycle 2 and 3.In cycle 2,patients received a single subcutaneous injection of prophylactic PEG rhG-CSF on d 3,and received half-dose subcutaneous injection in cycle 3 on d 3 and d 5,respectively.Escalating doses(30,60,100 and 200μg/kg)of PEG rhG-CSF were investigated. Results:A total of 26 patients were enrolled and received chemotherapy,in which 24 and 18 patients entered cycle 2 and cycle 3 treatment, respectively. In cycle 2,the incidence of grade 3 or 4 neutropenia for patients receiving single-dose PEG rhG-CSF of 30,60,100 and 200 μg/kg was 66.67%,33.33%,22.22% and 0,respectively,with a median duration less than 1(0–2)d.No grade 3 or higher neutropenia was noted in cycle 3 in all dose cohorts. Conclusions:The pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profiles of PEG rhG-CSF used in cancer patients were similar to those reported,as well as the safety.Double half dose administration model showed better efficacy result than a single dose model in terms of grade 3 neutropenia and above. The single dose of 60 μg/kg,100 μg/kg and double half dose of 30 μg/kg were recommended to the phase Ⅱ study, hoping to find a preferable method for neutropenia treatment.Yan Qin Xiaohong Han Lin Wang Ping Du Jiarui Yao Di Wu Yuanyuan Song Shuxiang Zhang Le Tang Yuankai Shi 2017Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2017,29,5:11

7Nanoparticle-immersed paper imprinting mass spectrometry imaging reveals uptake and translocation mechanism of pesticides in plants显示文摘Design and discovery of carrier-mediated modified pesticides are vital for reducing pesticide dosage and increasing utilization, yet it remains a great challenge due to limited insights into plant translocation mechanisms.Nanostructure/nanoparticle assisted laser desorption/ionization strategy has established itself as a preferential analytical tool for biological tissue analysis, whereas potential applications in plant sciences are hindered with regard to the inability to slice plant leaves and petals.Herein,we report gold nanoparticle(AuNP)-immersed paper imprinting mass spectrometry imaging(MSI)for the spatiotemporal visualization of pesticide translocation in plant leaves. This approach plays a dual role in preserving spatial information and improving ionization efficiency for pesticides regardless of imaging artifacts due to homogenous AuNP deposition.Using this MSI platform,we proposed the elaborate plant translocation mechanism of agrochemicals for the first time, which is currently poorly understood. The dynamic processes of carrier-mediated pesticides can be clearly visualized, including crossing of plasma membranes by transporters, translocation downward in stems through the phloem, diffusion to the xylem and, conversely, accumulation at margins of the treated leaves. Moreover, this AuNP-assisted paper imprinting method could be highly compatible with laser-based MSI instruments, expediting researches across a broad range of fields, especially in nanomaterial development and life sciences.Xinzhou Wu Run Qin Hanxiang Wu Guangkai Yao Yue Zhang Ping Li Yizhu Xu Zhixiang Zhang Zhibin Yin Hanhong Xu 2020Nano Research2020,13,3:8
8Changes of resting cerebral activities in subacute ischemic stroke patients显示文摘This study aimed to detect the difference in resting cerebral activities between ischemic stroke patients and healthy participants, define the abnormal site, and provide new evidence for pathological mechanisms, clinical diagnosis, prognosis prediction and efficacy evaluation of ischemic stroke. At present, the majority of functional magnetic resonance imaging studies focus on the motor dysfunction and the acute stage of ischemic stroke. This study recruited 15 right-handed ischemic stroke patients at subacute stage(15 days to 11.5 weeks) and 15 age-matched healthy participants.A resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging scan was performed on each subject to detect cerebral activity.Regional homogeneity analysis was used to investigate the difference in cerebral activities between ischemic stroke patients and healthy participants. The results showed that the ischemic stroke patients had lower regional homogeneity in anterior cingulate and left cerebrum and higher regional homogeneity in cerebellum, left precuneus and left frontal lobe, compared with healthy participants. The experimental findings demonstrate that the areas in which regional homogeneity was different between ischemic stroke patients and healthy participants are in the cerebellum, left precuneus, left triangle inferior frontal gyrus, left inferior temporal gyrus and anterior cingulate. These locations, related to the motor, sensory and emotion areas, are likely potential targets for the neural regeneration of subacute ischemic stroke patients.Ping Wu Fang Zeng Yong-xin Li Bai-li Yu Li-hua Qiu Wei Qin Ji Li Yu-mei Zhou Fan-rong Liang 2015Neural Regeneration Research2015,10,5:7
9Pathogenic effects of biofilm with chronic pseudomonas aeruginosa lung infection in rats显示文摘Objective:To establish an animal model of P.aeruginosa biofilm associated with chronic pulmonary infection and investigate the pathogenic effects of biofilm. Methods:Experiments in vitro, measuring the MICS,MBCS of levofloxacin(LFX),ceftazidime(CAZ)in PAO579 in alginate beads and planktonic PAO579.Rats were challenged with 0.1 ml of PAO579(109CFU/ml)in alginate beads or 0.1 ml of planktonic PAO579(109 CFU/ml),3,7,14 days after challenging, bacteriological, pathological features were observed. Results:The MICS,MBCS of LFX,CAZ in PAO579 in alginate beads were higher than those in planktonic PAO579 in vitro.CFU/lung in alginate beads group was significantly higher than that in planktonic bacteria group(P = 0.002,P = 0.004,P = 0.002,respectively);macroscopic lung pathology and the inflammation in alginate beads group were significantly more severe compared to those in planktonic bacteria group in vivo.Conclusion:P.aeruginosa biofilm protected bacterium from killing of antibiotics and might mediate the host immune damage in the lung tissue and made bacterium evade the host immune defense.Ping Yan Yiqiang Chen Zhijun Song Hong Wu Jinliang Kong Xuejun Qin 2008Journal of Nanjing Medical University2008,22,1:7
10ILF3 is a substrate of SPOP for regulating serine biosynthesis in colorectal cancer显示文摘The Serine-Glycien-One-Carbon(SGOC)pathway is pivotal in multiple anabolic processes.Expression levels of SGOC genes are deregulated under tumoeigenic condltions, suggesting panicipation of oncogenes in deregulating the SGOC biosynthetic pathway. However, the underlying mechanism remains elusive. Here,we identifed that Interleukin enfiarccer-binding factor 3(ILF3)is overexpressed in primary CRC patient specimens and correlates with poor progroosis.ILF3 is critical in regulating the SGOC pathway by directly regulating the mRNA stability of SGOC genes, thereby increasing SGOC genes expression and facilitating tumor growth.Mehhanktic studies showed that the EGF-MIEK-ERK pathway nnediates ILF3 phosphorylation, which hin ders E3 ligase speckle-type POZ protein(SPOP)-mediated poly-ubiquitination and degradation of ILF3.Sign iftca ntly, combination of SGOC inhibitor and the anti-EGFR monoclonal antibody cetuximab can hinder the growth of patient-derived xenografts that sustain high ERK-ILF3 levels.Taken together, deregutation of ILF3 via the EGF-ERK signaling plays an important role in systemic serine metabolic reprogramming and confers a predilection toward CRC development. Our findings indicate that clinical evaluation of SCOC inhibitor is warranted for CRC patients with ILF3 overexpression.Kai Li Jian-lin Wu Baifu Qin Zongmin Fan Qin Tang Weisi Lu Haipeng Zhang Fan Xing Manqi Meng Shaomin Zou Wenxia Wei Honglei Chen Jian Cai Huaiming Wang Hui Zhang Jiayue Cai Ling Fang Xiqing Bian Chuangqi Chen Ping Lan Bart Ghesquiere Lekun Fang Mong-Hong Lee 2020Cell Research2020,30,2:6
11CD147 antibody specifically and effectively inhibits infection and cytokine storm of SARS-CoV-2 and its variants delta, alpha, beta, and gamma显示文摘SARS-CoV-2 mutations contribute to increased viral transmissibility and immune escape, compromising the effectiveness of existing vaccines and neutralizing antibodies. An in-depth investigation on COVID-19 pathogenesis is urgently needed to develop a strategy against SARS-CoV-2 variants. Here,we identified CD147 as a universal receptor for SARS-CoV-2 and its variants.Meanwhile,Meplazeumab,a humanized anti-CD147 antibody, could block cellular entry of SARS-CoV-2 and its variants-alpha,beta,gamma,and delta, with inhibition rates of 68.7,75.7,52.1,52.1,and 62.3%at 60μg/ml,respectively.Furthermore,humanized CD147 transgenic mice were susceptible to SARS-CoV-2 and its two variants, alpha and beta. When infected, these mice developed exudative alveolar pneumonia, featured by immune responses involving alveoli-infiltrated macrophages, neutrophils, and lymphocytes and activation of IL-17 signaling pathway.Mechanistically,we proposed that severe COVID-19-related cytokine storm is induced by a'spike protein-CD147-CyPA signaling axis':Infection of SARS-CoV-2 through CD147 initiated the JAK-STAT pathway, which further induced expression of cyclophilin A(CyPA);CyPA reciprocally bound to CD147 and triggered MAPK pathway.Consequently, the MAPK pathway regulated the expression of cytokines and chemokines, which promoted the development of cytokine storm.Importantly,Meplazumab could effectively inhibit viral entry and inflammation caused by SARS-CoV-2 and its variants. Therefore, our findings provided a new perspective for severe COVID-19-related pathogenesis.Furthermore, the validated universal receptor for SARS-CoV-2 and its variants can be targeted for COVID-19 treatment.Jiejie Geng Liang Chen Yufeng Yuan Ke Wang Youchun Wang Chuan Qin Guizhen Wu Ruo Chen Zheng Zhang Ding Wei Peng Du Jun Zhang Peng Lin Kui Zhang Yongqiang Deng Ke Xu Jiangning Liu Xiuxuan Sun Ting Guo Xu Yang Jiao Wu Jianli Jiang Ling Li Kun Zhang Zhe Wang Jing Zhang Qingguo Yan Hua Zhu Zhaohui Zheng Jinlin Miao Xianghui Fu Fengfan Yang Xiaochun Chen Hao Tang Yang Zhang Ying Shi Yumeng Zhu Zhuo Pei Fei Huo Xue Liang Yatao Wang Qingyi Wang Wen Xie Yirong Li Mingyan Shi Huijie Bian Ping Zhu Zhi-Nan Chen 2021Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2021,6,10:6
12Pericytes augment glioblastoma cell resistance to temozolomide through CCL5-CCR5 paracrine signaling显示文摘Glioblastoma(GBM)is a prevalent and highly lethal form of glioma, with rapid tumor progression and frequent recurrence.Excessive outgrowth of pericytes in GBM governs the ecology of the perivascular niche, but their function in mediating chemoresistance has not been fully explored.Herein,we uncovered that pericytes potentiate DNA damage repair(DDR)in GBM cells residing in the perivascular niche, which induces temozolomide(TMZ)chemoresistance. We found that increased pericyte proportion correlates with accelerated tumor recurrence and worse prognosis.Genetic depletion of pericytes in GBM xenografts enhances TMZ-induced cytotoxicity and prolongs survival of tumor-bearing mice.Mechanistically,C-C motif chemokine ligand 5(CCL5)secreted by pericytes activates C-C motif chemokine receptor 5(CCR5)on GBM cells to enable DNA-dependent protein kinase catalytic subunit(DNA-PKcs)-mediated DDR upon TMZ treatment.Disrupting CCL5-CCR5 paracrine signaling through the brain-penetrable CCR5 antagonist maraviroc(MVC)potently inhibits pericyte-promoted DDR and effectively improves the chemotherapeutic efficacy of TMZ.GBM patient-derived xenografts with high CCL5 expression benefit from combined treatment with TMZ and MVC.Our study reveals the role of pericytes as an extrinsic stimulator potentiating DDR signaling in GBM cells and suggests that targeting CCL5-CCR5 signaling could be an effective therapeutic strategy to improve chemotherapeutic efficacy against GBM.Xiao-Ning Zhang Kai-Di Yang Cong Chen Zhi-Cheng He Qiang-Hu Wang Hua Feng Sheng-Qing Lv Yan Wang Min Mao Qing Liu Yao-Yao Tan Wen-Ying Wang Tian-Ran Li Lin-Rong Che Zhong-Yi Qin Ling-Xiang Wu Min Luo Chun-Hua Luo Yu-Qi Liu Wen Yin Chao Wang Hai-Tao Guo Qing-Rui Li Bin Wang Wei Chen Shuang Wang Yu Shi Xiu-Wu Bian Yi-Fang Ping 2021Cell Research2021,31,10:5
13The correlation and overlaps between PD-L1 expression and classical genomic aberrations in Chinese lung adenocarcinoma patients: a single center case series显示文摘Objective:To investigate the correlation and overlaps between PD-L1 expression and classical genomic aberrations in Chinese lung adenocarcinoma(LADC)patients. Methods:We reviewed 428 consecutive, surgically resected cases of LADC from October 2015 to December 2016 from our center.PD-L1 expression was evaluated based on tumor proportion score(TPS).Correlation and co-occurrence of PD-L1 expression level with those of classical driver genes, such as EGFR,ALK,ROS-1,and KRAS and with clinical variables and disease-free survival(DFS)were analyzed. Results:Seventy of the 428 cases(16.4%)showed TPS≥1%,and 21 cases(4.9%)showed TPS≥50%.PD-L1 positive expression was significantly associated with male gender, smoking, advanced TNM stage, and solid histologic subtype. Both TPS≥1% and ≥50%were correlated with the absence of an EGFR mutation(P<0.001)and the presence of ALK rearrangement(P=0.024).KRAS mutation was associated with TPS≥50%(P=0.035).PD-L1 positivity commonly overlapped with the alterations of classical driver oncogenes(58.5%with TPS≥1% and 42.9% with TPS≥50%).Approximately three-quarters of PD-L1 positive cases co-occurred with classical therapeutic-gene aberrations in cases with stage III/IV cancer or cancer progression.LADC could be divided into four subgroups based on the expression profile of current routine biomarkers for potential therapeutic strategies.Conclusions:PD-L1 expression is not only closely correlated with classic gene alterations but also commonly overlaps with the aberrations of classical driver oncogenes in Chinese LADC patients. These findings provide a useful overview of clinical strategies that rely on the profile of routinely used molecular biomarkers.Jianghua Wu Wei Sun Haiyue Wang Xiaozheng Huang Xinyu Wang Weiyang Jiang Ling Jia Ping Wang Qin Feng Dongmei Lin 2019Cancer Biology & Medicine2019,16,4:5
14Serum semaphorin 4C as a diagnostic biomarker in breast cancer:A multicenter retrospective study显示文摘Background:To date, there is no approved blood-based biomarker for breast cancer detection.Herein,we aimed to assess semaphorin 4C(SEMA4C),a pivotal protein involved in breast cancer progression,as a serum diagnostic biomarker. Methods:We included 6,213 consecutive inpatients from Tongji Hospital,Qilu Hospital, and Hubei Cancer Hospital.Training cohort and two validation cohorts were introduced for diagnostic exploration and validation.A pan-cancer cohort was used to independently explore the diagnostic potential of SEMA4C among solid tumors.Breast cancer patients who underwent mass excision prior to modified radical mastectomy were also analyzed. We hypothesized that increased pretreatment serum SEMA4C levels, measured using optimized in-house enzymelinked immunosorbent assay kits, could detect breast cancer. The endpoints were diagnostic performance, including area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC),sensitivity, and specificity.Post-surgery pathological diagnosis was the reference standard and breast cancer staging followed the TNM classification. There was no restriction on disease stage for eligibilities. Results:We included 2667 inpatients with breast lesions,2378 patients with other solid tumors, and 1168 healthy participants.Specifically,118 patients with breast cancer were diagnosed with stage 0(5.71%),620 with stage I(30.00%),966 with stage II(46.73%),217 with stage III(10.50%),and 8 with stage IV(0.39%).Patients with breast cancer had significantly higher serum SEMA4C levels than benign breast tumor patients and normal controls(P<0.001).Elevated serum SEMA4C levels had AUC of 0.920(95%confidence interval[CI]:0.900–0.941)and 0.932(95%CI:0.911–0.953)for breast cancer detection in the two validation cohorts. The AUCs for detecting early-stage breast cancer(n=366)and ductal carcinoma in situ(n=85)were 0.931(95%CI:0.916–0.946)and 0.879(95%CI:0.832–0.925),respectively.Serum SEMA4C levels significantly decreased after surgery, and the reduction was more striking after modified radical mastectomy, compared with mass excision(P<0.001).The positive rate of enhanced serum SEMA4C levels was 84.77%for breast cancer and below 20.75%for the other 14 solid tumors. Conclusions:Serum SEMA4C demonstrated promising potential as a candidate biomarker for breast cancer diagnosis. However, validation in prospective settings and by other study groups is warranted.Ya Wang Long Qiao Jie Yang Xiong Li Yaqi Duan Jiahao Liu Shaoqi Chen Huayi Li Dan Liu Tian Fang Jingjing Ma Xiaoting Li Fei Ye Junxiang Wan Juncheng Wei Qin Xu Ensong Guo Ping Jin Mingfu Wu Lin Zhang Yun Xia Yaqun Wu Jun Shao Yaojun Feng Qing Zhang Zongyuan Yang Gang Chen Qinghua Zhang Xingrui Li Shixuan Wang Junbo Hu Xiaoyun Wang Mona P.Tan Kazuaki Takabe Beihua Kong Qifeng Yang Ding Ma Qinglei Gao 2021Cancer Communications2021,41,12:3
15Effect of acupuncture plus conventional treatment on brain activity in ischemic stroke patients: a regional homogeneity analysis显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To determine differences in cerebral activity evoked by acupuncture and conventional stroke treatment, and identify the treatment targets.METHODS: In total, 21 patients were randomly divided into two groups. Group A(11 patients) received both acupuncture and conventional treatment, while group B(10 patients) received conventional treatment only. Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging(f MRI) was performed on each participant before and after treatment. Regional homogeneity analysis was performed to investigate the potential mechanism of acupuncture treatment by comparing differences in cerebral activity between treatments.RESULTS: Group A showed higher Re Ho in the frontal lobe(BA6, BA46), supra-marginal gyrus(BA40),middle temporal gyrus(BA21), cerebellum, and insula. Group B showed higher Re Ho in the frontal lobe(BA6) and parietal lobe(BA3, BA7).CONCLUSION: Acupuncture and conventional treatment triggered relatively different clinical efficacy and brain responses. Acupuncture treatment more significantly improved the symptoms of stroke patients. More marked changes in sensory, emotional, and motor areas(including the frontal lobe, middle temporal gyrus, cerebellum, and insula) might reflect the specific acupuncture mechanism.Wu Ping Zeng Fang Li Yongxin Li Ji Qiu Lihua Qin Wei Luo Lu Yin Canxin Xiong Yan Bai Yu Wang Dan Zhou Yumei Liang Fanrong 2017Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2017,37,5:3
16Distinguishability analysis of controller parameters with applications to DFIG based wind turbine显示文摘The power system controllers normally have more than one parameter. The distinguishability analysis of the controller parameters is to identify whether the optimal set of the parameters of the controllers is unique. It is difficult to obtain the analytic relationship between the objective of the optimization and the controller parameters, which means that the analytical method is not suitable for the distinguishability analysis. Therefore,a trajectory sensitivity based numerical method for the distinguishability analysis of the controller parameters is proposed in this paper. The relationship between the distinguishability and the sensitivities of the parameters is built. The magnitudes of the sensitivities are used to identify the key parameters, while the phase angles of the sensitivities are used to analyze the distinguishability of the key parameters. The distinguishability of the controller parameters of wind turbine with DFIG is studied using the proposed method, and dynamic simulations are performed to verify the results of the distinguishability analysis.QIN Chuan JU Ping WU Feng LIU Lei 2013Science China(Technological Sciences)2013,56,10:3
17Ammonium affects cell viability to inhibit root growth in Arabidopsis显示文摘Ammonium (NH4+) is an important form of nitrogen nutrient for most plants, yet is also a stressor for many of them. However, the primary events of NH4+ toxicity at the cellular level are still unclear. Here,we showed that NH4+ toxicity can induce the root cell death in a temporal pattern which primarily occurs in the cells of root maturation and elongation zones, and then spreads to the cells in the meristem and root cap.The results from the NH4+-hypersensitive mutant hsn1 further confirmed our findings.Taken together,NH4+ toxicity inhibits primary root growth by inhibiting cell elongation and division and inducing root cell death.Cheng QIN Ke-ke YI Ping WU 2011Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2011,12,6:3

19Regional brain structural abnormality in ischemic stroke patients:a voxel-based morphometry study显示文摘Our previous study used regional homogeneity analysis and found that activity in some brain areas of patients with ischemic stroke changed significantly. In the current study,we examined structural changes in these brain regions by taking structural magnetic resonance imaging scans of 11 ischemic stroke patients and 15 healthy participants, and analyzing the data using voxel-based morphometry.Compared with healthy participants, patients exhibited higher gray matter density in the left inferior occipital gyrus and right anterior white matter tract. In contrast, gray matter density in the right cerebellum, left precentral gyrus, right middle frontal gyrus, and left middle temporal gyrus was less in ischemic stroke patients. The changes of gray matter density in the middle frontal gyrus were negatively associated with the clinical rating scales of the Fugl-Meyer Motor Assessment(r=–0.609,P=0.047) and the left middle temporal gyrus was negatively correlated with the clinical rating scales of the nervous functional deficiency scale(r=–0.737,P=0.010).Our findings can objectively identify the functional abnormality in some brain regions of ischemic stroke patients.Ping Wu Yu-mei Zhou Fang Zeng Zheng-jie Li Lu Luo Yong-xin Li Wei Fan Li-hua Qiu Wei Qin Lin Chen Lin Bai Juan Nie San Zhang Yan Xiong Yu Bai Can-xin Yin Fan-rong Liang 2016Neural Regeneration Research2016,11,9:2
20A mathematical modeling study of the HIV epidemics at two rural townships in the Liangshan Prefecture of the Sichuan Province of China显示文摘Background:As a response to a severe HIV epidemic in the Liangshan Prefecture, one of the worst in China, population based HIV interventions, including two population-wide HIV screening, have been carried out since 2005 at two townships in a remote mountainous region of Liangshan. The objective of our mathematical modeling study is to assess the temporal dynamics of the HIV epidemic in the two townships based on the data collected in the study area during the period 2005e2010.Methods:A mathematical model was set up to describe the population dynamics of HIV transmission in study area. The model was calibrated by fitting it to the HIV testing and treatment data from 2005 to 2008.Validation of the model was done by comparing its predicted value of HIV prevalence in 2010 to the prevalence data obtained in the 2010 population wide HIV testing. The validated model was used to produce estimation of HIV incidence, prevalence and death. Results:Our model estimations show that population-based HIV interventions have significantly slowed down the rise of the HIV epidemic in the two townships.Over the five-year period from 2005 to 2010,the year-over-year rate of increase in HIV incidence, prevalence, and death has declined by 91.5%,28.7%,and 52.3%,respectively.Conclusion:Mathematical models, when integrated with epidemiological and surveillance data, can be an effective tool for predicting the temporal dynamics of HIV and assessing the impacts of HIV interventions.Zhimin Su Caiting Dong Ping Li Hongxia Deng Yuhan Gong Shiyong Zhong Min Wu Yuhua Ruan Guangming Qin Wen Yang Yiming Shao Michael Li 2016Infectious Disease Modelling2016,1,1:2
