1The cytotoxicity and protective effects of Astragalus membranaceus extracts and butylated hydroxyanisole on hydroxyl radical-induced apoptosis in fish erythrocytes显示文摘Erythrocytes play an essential role in transporting O_2 and CO_2 for respiration in fish. However,erythrocytes continuously suffer from reactive oxygen species(ROS)-induced oxidative stress and apoptosis. Thus, it is essential to expand our knowledge of how to protect erythrocytes against ROS-induced oxidative stress and apoptosis in fish. In this study, we explored the cytotoxicity and the effects of butylated hydroxyanisole(BHA), ethyl ether extracts, ethyl acetate extracts, acetone extracts(AE), ethanol extracts, and aqueous extracts of Astragalus membranaceus(EAm) on hydroxyl radical(·OH)-induced apoptosis in carp erythrocytes. The rat hepatocytes and carp erythrocytes were incubated with different concentrations of BHA or EAm(0.125 to 1 mg/mL). The toxicity in rat hepatocytes and carp erythrocytes was then measured using a 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide(MTT) assay and a haemolysis assay,respectively. The carp erythrocytes were treated with BHA or EAm in the presence of 40 μmol/L FeSO4 and20 μmol/L H_2 O_2 at 37℃, except for the control group. Oxidative stress and apoptosis parameters in the carp erythrocytes were then evaluated using the commercial kit. The results indicated that at high concentrations, BHA and EAm could induce toxicity in rat hepatocytes and fish erythrocytes. However, BHA was more toxic than EAm at the same concentrations. Moreover, the toxicity order of BHA and EAm in the fish erythrocytes approximately agreed with that for the rat hepatocytes. Butylated hydroxyanisole and EAm suppressed the ·OH-induced phosphatidylserine exposure and DNA fragmentation(the biomarkers of apoptosis) by decreasing the generation of ROS, inhibiting the oxidation of cellular components, and restoring the activities of antioxidants in carp erythrocytes. Of all of the examined EAm, the AE showed the strongest effects. The effects of AE on superoxide anion, H_2 O_2, met-haemoglobin and reduced glutathione levels, as well as glutathione reductase activity and apoptosis were equivalent to or stronger than those of BHA. 2Anisotropic NdFeB/SmCoCuFeZr composite bonded magnet prepared by warm compaction process显示文摘Anisotropic NdFeB/SmCoCuFeZr composite bonded magnets were prepared by warm compaction process. The effects of adding SmCoCuFeZr magnetic powder on the properties of anisotropic bonded NdFeB magnet were investigated in this work. The results show that, both magnetic properties and temperature stability of the bonded magnet can be improved by adding fine SmCoCuFeZr magnetic powder. 3Rail temperature rise characteristics caused by linear eddy current brake of high-speed train显示文摘The rail temperature rises when the linear eddy current brake of high-speed train is working,which may lead to a change of rail physical characteristics or an effect on train operations.Therefore,a study concerning the characteristics of rail temperature rise caused by eddy current has its practical necessity.In the research,the working principle of a linear eddy current brake is introduced and its FEA model is established.According to the generation mechanism of eddy current,the theoretical formula of the internal energy which is produced by the eddy current is deduced and the thermal load on the rail is obtained.ANSYS is used to simulate the rail temperature changes under different conditions of thermal loads.The research result shows the main factors which contribute to the rising of rail temperature are the train speed,brake gap and exciting current.The rail temperature rises non-linearly with the increase of train speed.The rail temperature rise curve is more sensitive to the exciting current than the air gap.Moreover,the difference stimulated by temperature rising between rails of 60 kg/m and 75 kg/m is presented as well.Xiaoshan Lu Yunfeng Li Mengling Wu Jianyong Zuo Wei Hu 2014Journal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering(English Edition)2014,1,6:3
4Organic–inorganic hybrid perovskite scintillators for mixed field radiation detection显示文摘Sensitive and fast detection of neutrons and gamma rays is vital for homeland security,high-energy physics,and proton therapy.Fast-neutron detectors rely on light organic scintillators,andγ-ray detectors use heavy inorganic scintillators and semiconductors.Efficient mixed-field detection using a single material is highly challenging due to their contradictory requirements.Here we report hybrid perovskites(C_(8)H_(12)N)_(2)Pb(Br_(0.95)Cl_(0.05))_(4)that combine light organic cations and heavy inorganic skeletons at a molecular level to achieve unprecedented performance for mixed-field radiation detection.High neutron absorption due to a high density of hydrogen,strong radiative recombination within the highly confined[PbX_(6)]^(4-)layer,and sub-nanometer distance between absorption sites and radiative centers,enable a light yield of 41000 photons/MeV,detection pulse width of 2.97 ns and extraordinary linearity response toward both fast neutrons andγ-rays,outperforming commonly used fast-neutron scintillators.Neutron energy spectrum,time-of-flight based fast-neutron/γ-ray discrimination and neutron yield monitoring were all successfully achieved using(C_(8)H_(12)N)_(2)Pb(Br_(0.95)Cl_(0.05))_(4)detectors.We further demonstrate the monitoring of reaction kinetics and total power of a nuclear fusion reaction.We envision that molecular hybridized scintillators open a new avenue for mixed-field radiation detection and imaging.Mengling Xia Guangda Niu Linyue Liu Runlong Gao Tong Jin Pengying Wan Weicheng Pan Xianpeng Zhang Zuoxiang Xie Sam Teale Zenghua Cai Jiajun Luo Shan Zhao Haodi Wu Shiyou Chen Zhiping Zheng Qingguo Xie Xiaoping Ouyang Edward HSargent Jiang Tang 2022InfoMat2022,4,9:2
5The Pumilio RNA-binding protein APUM24 regulates seed maturation by fine-tuning the BPM-WRI1 module in Arabidopsis显示文摘Pumilio RNAbindingproteinsparticipateinmes-senger RNA(mRNA)degradation and t ranslational repression,but their roles in plant development are largely unclear.Here,we show that Arabidopsis PUMILIO PROTEIN24(APUM24),an atypical Pumiliohomology domaincontaining protein,plays an im-portant part in regulating seed maturation,a major stage of plant development.APUM24 is strongly expressed in maturing seeds.Reducing APUM24 expression resulted in abnormal seed maturation,wrinkled seeds,and lower seed oil contents,and APUM24 knockdown resulted in lower levels of WRINKLED 1(WRI1),a key transcription factor con-trolling seed oil accumulation,and lower expression of WRI1 target genes.APUM24 reduces the mRNA stability of BTB/POZMATH(BPM)family genes,thus decreasing BPM protein levels.BPM is responsible for the 26S proteasomemediated degradation of WRI1 and has important functions in plant growth and development.The 3′untranslated regions of BPM family genes contain putative Pumilio response elements(PREs),which are bound by APUM24.Re-duced BPM or increased WRI1 expression rescued the decient seed maturation of apum242 knock-down mutants,and APUM24 overexpression re-sulted in increased seed size and weight.Therefore,APUM24 is crucial to seed maturation through its action as a positive regulatornetuning the BPMWRI1 module,making APUM24 apromising target for breeding strategies to increase crop yields.Ruihua Huang Mengling Liu Guanping Gong Pingzhi Wu Barunava Patra Ling Yuan Hongting Qin Xiaoxu Wang Guohe Wang Huimei Liao Lu Gao Chengwei Yang Hongqing Li Shengchun Zhang 2021Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2021,63,7:2

9β-Cyclodextrin carbon-based nanoparticles with a core-shell-shell structure for efficient adsorption of crystal violet and bisphenol A显示文摘Textile wastewater contains highly toxic,nondegradable,carcinogenic organic pollutants,causing severe damage to the ecological environment.In this work,β-cyclodextrin carbon-sphere-based nanocomposite(CS/SiO_(2)@β-CD)with a core-shell-shell configuration was prepared by hydrothermal synthesis and subsequent sedimentation-azeotropic distillation with SiO_(2)as intermediate layer for the removal of crystal violet(CV)and bisphenol A(BPA).The chemical structure and morphology of the CS/SiO_(2)@β-CD were characterized by FT-IR,SEM and TEM.The effects of contact time,pH,temperature and initial concentration of the absorbates on the adsorption property were explored.The CS/SiO_(2)@β-CD showed excellent adsorption capacity on CV and BPA,and the maximum adsorption capacity was 87.873 mg g^(-1)and 165.095 mg g^(-1),respectively.Their adsorption process was in line with the pseudo-second-order and pseudo-first-order kinetic models,respectively.The adsorption thermodynamics could be better fitted by Langmuir model than by Freundlich model.The calculated thermodynamic parameters(-ΔG0,ΔS0 andΔH0)illustrated the adsorption of CV was endothermic,in contrast,the adsorption of BPA was exothermic process.Furthermore,the CS/SiO_(2)@β-CD showed excellent recovery performance,making it a potential adsorbent for the practical treatment of textile wastewater.Tian Tian Mengling Liu Yinhui Li Jian Han Liang Ren Heike Lorenz Qing Wu Jianxin Chen 2022Particuology2022,20,3:1

12Bacterial community composition in gut content and ambient sediment of two tropical wild sea cucumbers(Holothuria atra and H.leucospilota)显示文摘Sea cucumbers play an important role in sediment bioturbation in coral reef and rocky intertidal ecosystems,and bacteria were a commonly-reported component of holothuroid diets.Bacterial community composition in the foregut and hindgut of two common tropical sea cucumbers(Holothuria atra and H.leucospilota)and the ambient surface sediment were investigated using high throughput sequencing based on 16S rRNA gene analysis.A total of 5584 operational taxonomic units(OTUs)were obtained from 25 samples based on a 97%threshold,and more than half of the OTUs(n=3694,66.2%)were shared by the gut contents of two species of sea cucumbers and surrounding sediments.Bacterial richness and diversity in sediment samples were signifi cantly higher than those in the gut content samples(P<0.05).Proteobacteria was the predominant phylum in most samples showing 45.69%±8.61%,70.09%±4.03%,45.88%±5.38%,and 55.19%±0.79%reads in the foregut of H.leucospilota,hindgut of H.leucospilota,hindgut of H.atra,and sediment libraries,respectively,but Bacteroidetes was the predominant phylum with the relative content of 34.98%±5.52%in the foregut of H.atra.Among the dominant genera,reads related to the genera Anderseniella,Ilumatobacter,and Ruegeria were detected in all the gut contents and sediment libraries.A comparison of gut bacteria community between the two species of sea cucumbers suggested that H.atra had stronger feeding preference than H.leucospilota,and the same types of microbes escaped digestion of the two sea cucumber species.Obvious diff erent bacterial community composition in the foreguts of the two species of sea cucumbers and the surrounding sediments might result from the animal’s selective feeding for sediment patches.Bacterial community structure in hindgut contents of H.atra and H.leucospilota both diff ered clearly from adjacent sediments,which indicated feeding activity of deposit-feeding sea cucumbers could change the sedimental bacterial composition.In conclusion,from the perspective of bacteria,sea cucumber H.atra and H.leucospilota had diff erent feeding preferences,yet they could both aff ect bacterial composition in sediments by feeding activity.The motivation for selective feeding and sea cucumber-sediment interaction might be explored in the future.Fei GAO Yue ZHANG Peilin WU Mengling CHEN Linwen HE Qiang XU Aimin WANG 2022Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2022,40,1:0
13Metabarcoding of fecal DNA reveals the broad and flexible diet of a globally endangered bird显示文摘Knowing the diet of endangered wild animals is a prerequisite for species-specific conservation and habitat management.The Sichuan partridge Arborophila rufipectus is a globally endangered Galliformes species endemic to the mountains of southwest China.Existing information on the diet of this species is biased and fragmented owing to traditional observation methods.Little is known about their dietary composition or how they respond to temporal variations in food resources throughout the year.In this study,a dietary analysis was performed on 6o fecal samples using DNA Metabarcoding of invertebrates and plants to determine the primary animal and plant components of the diet across 3 critical periods of adult life history(breeding,postbreeding wandering,and overwintering).Preys from the dipteran order,followed by the lepidopteran and ara-neaen spp.,were the predominant,animal-derived foods.Symplocos,Rubus,Celastrus,Holboellia,and Actinidia spp.supply a large abundance of fruits and seeds for this omnivorous bird.Substantial temporal dietary changes among the 3 periods and a general shift toward lower dietary diversity during the breeding season were observed,suggesting that the Sichuan partridge can adjust their diet according to the availability of food resources and their own needs.Characterizing the composition and seasonal changes in Sichuan partridge diets informs the habitat management of native flora(the plant taxa that can generate berries and seeds,such as Symplocos,Rubus,Celastrus,and Holboellia,which are likely of conservation interest)to achieve full life-cycle conservation.Keyi Tang Yufeng Wang Mengling Wu Shufang Wang Changkun Fu Zhengwang Zhang Yiqiang Fu 2023Current Zoology2023,69,5:0

15Analysis of wheel-rail adhesion redundancy considering the thirdbody medium on the rail surface显示文摘Purpose–In response to the problem of insufficient traction/braking adhesion force caused by the existence of the third-body medium on the rail surface,this study aims to analyze the utilization of wheel-rail adhesion coefficient under different medium conditions and propose relevant measures for reasonable and optimized utilization of adhesion to ensure the traction/braking performance and operation safety of trains.Design/methodology/approach–Based on the PLS-160 wheel-rail adhesion simulation test rig,the study investigates the variation patterns of maximum utilized adhesion characteristics on the rail surface under different conditions of small creepage and large slip.Through statistical analysis of multiple sets of experimental data,the statistical distribution patterns of maximum utilized adhesion on the rail surface are obtained,and a method for analyzing wheel-rail adhesion redundancy based on normal distribution is proposed.The study analyzes the utilization of traction/braking adhesion,as well as adhesion redundancy,for different medium under small creepage and large slip conditions.Based on these findings,relevant measures for the reasonable and optimized utilization of adhesion are derived.Findings–When the third-body medium exists on the rail surface,the train should adopt the low-level service braking to avoid the braking skidding by extending the braking distance.Compared with the current adhesion control strategy of small creepage,adopting appropriate strategies to control the train’s adhesion coefficient near the second peak point of the adhesion coefficient-slip ratio curve in large slip can effectively improve the traction/braking adhesion redundancy and the upper limit of adhesion utilization,thereby ensuring the traction/braking performance and operation safety of the train.Originality/value–Most existing studies focus on the wheel-rail adhesion coefficient values and variation patterns under different medium conditions,without considering whether the rail surface with different medium can provide sufficient traction/braking utilized adhesion coefficient for the train.Therefore,there is a risk of traction overspeeding/braking skidding.This study analyzes whether the rail surface with different medium can provide sufficient traction/braking utilized adhesion coefficient for the train and whether there is redundancy.Based on these findings,relevant measures for the reasonable and optimized utilization of adhesion are derived to further ensure operation safety of the train.Chun Tian Gengwei Zhai Mengling Wu Jiajun Zhou Yaojie Li 2024Railway Sciences2024,3,2:0
16Ultralow-adhesion icephobic surfaces:Combining superhydrophobic and liquid-like properties in the same surface显示文摘As a ubiquitous natural phenomenon,ice/frost formation on solid surfaces have adverse effects on many commercial and residential activities.Icephobic surfaces feature low ice adhesion strengths(<100 kPa)can passively retard ice formation and ease ice removal.Superhydrophobic surfaces and liquid-lubricating surfaces are two prevailing categories of icephobic surfaces.However,their long-term stability is relatively poor,and the ice adhesion strengths are not low enough for passive removal of small ice crystals(e.g.,frosts)from the surfaces.Herein,we combine the superhydrophobic and liquid-like properties in one surface to obtain durable icephobic surfaces with extremely low ice adhesion strengths(about 0.035 kPa).Ices and frosts can be removed from the surface under the action of gravity or gas purge.These surfaces are prepared based on surface nanoconical structure and covalently-grafted liquid-like perfluorinated polyether(PFPE)coating,which show synergy effects on suppressing icing and frosting by promoting expulsion of subcooled condensate droplets from the nanotexture and decreasing ice adhesion strengths.The icephobic surfaces show significantly better durability compared to lubricant-impregnated textured surfaces.Our results provide a new avenue to design passive anti-icing/anti-frosting surfaces for a wide range of applications where surfaces are exposed to humid and low-temperature environments.Mengling Ouyang Ruisheng Guo Yue Fan Yi Zhou Chengjiao Wu Liwei Chen Shilin Huang Xuelin Tian 2023Nano Research2023,16,1:0
17Root-order-associated variations in fine-root decomposition and their effects on soil in a subtropical evergreen forest显示文摘Background:Despite the importance of root decomposition in predicting ecosystem responses to future climate change,the effects of branch order on root decomposition and the feedback to soil still remains poorly understood.Here we separated root samples taken from two tree species(Castanopsis fargesii and Schima superba in subtropical forests along the coastal area in eastern China)into four-order classes(1st–2nd order,3rd order,4th order,and 5th order)and conducted a 540-day litterbag incubation experiment in laboratory to examine root mass loss,nutrient release,and the influence on soil during decomposition.Results:C.fargesii roots of 1st–2nd and 3rd order decayed more slowly than those of 4th and 5th order,but this pattern was not significant for S.superba.Of all the measured root traits,the decomposition rates correlated best with root C/N ratio,diameter and specific root length(SRL)based on the structural equation modeling.Both tree species and root order exhibited significantly effects on root initial traits.Overall,C.fargesii roots decay faster than S.superba,and this appears to be associated with root initial C quality and N concentration.In addition,root order positively affected root decomposition rates mainly through root diameter and SRL.However,no significant difference was found in C and N content between soils below the litterbag with different-order roots.Conclusions:Our findings suggest the effects of branch order on root decomposition are dependent on tree species.Moreover,root morphological properties might also be the controlling factor in root decay besides root chemistry fractions.Overall,the integrative effects should be considered to improve our understanding of the fate of fine-root litter and their contribution to soil C and N pool.Yibo Wu Mengling Zhang Zhibao Cheng Fang Wang Xiaoyong Cui 2022Ecological Processes2022,11,1:0
