2Synthesis of novel nanomaterials and their application in efficient removal of radionuclides显示文摘With the development of nuclear energy, large amounts of radionuclides are inevitably released into the natural environment. It is necessary to eliminate radionuclides from wastewater for the protection of environment. Nanomaterials have been considered as the potential candidates for the effective and selective removal of radionuclides from aqueous solutions under complicated conditions because of their high specific surface area, large amounts of binding sites, abundant functional groups, pore-size controllable and easily surface modification. This review mainly summarized the recent studies for the synthesis, fabrication and surface modification of novel nanomaterials and their applications in the efficient elimination and solidification of radionuclides,and discussed the interaction mechanisms from batch experiments, spectroscopy analysis and theoretical calculations. 3Effects and mechanisms of electroacupuncture at PC6 on frequency of transient lower esophageal sphincter relaxation in cats显示文摘AIM: To investigate the effects of electroacupuncture (EA) at neiguan (PC6) on gastric distention-induced transient lower esophageal sphincter relaxations (TLESRs) and discuss the mechanisms of this treatment. METHODS: ProtocolⅠ: Twelve healthy cats underwent gastric distention for 60 min on the first day. Electrical acupoint stimulation was applied at the neiguan or a sham point on the hip in randomized order before gastric distention, on the third day and fifth day. Those cats that underwent EA at neiguan on the fifth day were named 'Neiguan Group' and the cats that underwent EA at a sham acupoint on the fifth day were named 'Sham Group' (control group). During the experiment the frequency of TLESRs and lower esophageal sphincter (LES) pressure were observed by a perfused sleeve assembly. Plasma levels of gastrin (GAS) and motilin (MTL) were determined by radioimmunoassay. Nitrite/nitrate concentration in plasma and tissues were measured by Griess reagent. The nuclei in the brain stem were observed by immunohistochemistry method of c-Fos and NADPH-d dyeing. Protocol Ⅱ: Thirty six healthy cats were divided into 6 groups randomly. We gave saline (2 mL iv. control group), phaclofen (5 mg/kg iv. GABA-B antagonist), cholecystokinin octapeptide (CCK-8) (1 μg/kg per hour iv.), L-Arginine (200 mg/kg iv.), naloxone (2.5 μmol/kg iv.) and tacrine (5.6 mg/kg ip. cholinesterase inhibitor) respectively before EA at Neiguan and gastric distention. And the frequencies of TLESRs in experimental groups were compared with the control group.RESULTS: ProtocolⅠ: Not only the frequency of gastric distention-induced TLESR in 60 min but also the rate of common cavity during TLESRs were significantlydecreased by EA at neiguan compared to that of sham acupoint stimulation. C-Fos immunoreactivity and NOS reactivity in the solitarius (NTS) and dorsal motor nucleus of the vagus (DMV) were significantly decreased by EA at neiguan compared to that of the sham group. However, the positive nuclei of C-Fos and NOS in reticular formation of the medulla (RFM) were increased by EA at neiguan. Protocol Ⅱ: The inhibited effect of EA at neiguan on TLESR’s frequency was completely restored by pretreatment with CCK (23.5/h vs 4.5/h, P < 0.05), L-arginine (17.5/h vs 4.5/h, P < 0.05) and naloxone(12/h vs 4.5/h, P < 0.05). On the contrary, phaclofen (6/h vs 4.5/h, P > 0.05) and tacrine (9.5/h vs 4.5/h, P > 0.05) did not influence it. CONCLUSION: Electric acupoint stimulation at Neiguan significantly inhibits the frequency of TLESR and the rate of common cavity during TLESR in cats. This effect appears to act on the brain stem, and may be mediated through nitric oxide (NO), CCK-A receptor and mu-opioid receptors. 5Effectiveness and safety of heat-sensitive moxibustion on bronchial asthma:a Meta-analysis of randomized control trials显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To systematically evaluate the effectiveness and safety of heat-sensitive moxibustion(HSM)onasthma.METHODS: Large databases in China and overseas were searched by electronic and manual means to collect information on randomized controlled trials(RCTs).Two evaluators independently extracted data and evaluated the quality of RCTs according to Cochrane Review Handbook v5.0. RevMan v5.0.20 was used for statisticalanalyses.RESULTS: Fourteen RCTs involving 637 patients were collected.Thirteen RCTs compared the effects of HSM and Western Medicine. After 3-month treatment and after 6-month follow-up, there was no significant difference in effective rate [relative risk(RR)=1.01, 95% CI(0.92, 1.12), and 1.12,(0.93, 1.36),respectively], in the asthma control test score of asthma symptoms [weighted mean difference(WMD)=﹣1.54, 95% CI(﹣3.54, 0.47), and 1.41,(﹣0.48, 3.29), respectively] and in the forced expiratory volumein 1 second(FEV1)and peak expiratory flow(PEF). One RCT compared the effect of HSM with warm-suspended moxibustion. After 6-month follow-up, there was a significant difference in FEV1 and PEF [WMD=0.51, 95% CI(0.10, 0.92), and 1.78,(1.06, 2.50), respectively]. After 3-month treatment,there was no significant difference between the two groups. One RCT compared the effect of HSM with acupoint application. After 3-month treatment, there was no significant difference in the effectiverate[RR=0.68,95%CI(0.42,1.12)].CONCLUSION: HSM did not show superiority to conventional Western Medicine and acupoint application in terms of curative effects, and may be superior to warm-suspended moxibustion with regard to long-term curative effects. 7KIF2C:a novel link between Wnt/β-catenin and mTORCI signaling in the pathogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is the most common primary liver malignancy and is the fourth-leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide.HCC is refractory to many standard cancer treatments and the prognosis is often poor,highlighting a pressing need to identify biomarkers of aggressiveness and potential targets for future treatments.Kinesin family member 2C(KIF2C)is reported to be highly expressed in several human tumors.Nevertheless,the molecular mechanisms underlying the role of KIF2C in tumor development and progression have not been investigated.In this study,we found that KIF2C expression was significantly upregulated in HCC,and that KIF2C up-regulation was associated with a poor prognosis.Utilizing both gain and loss of function assays,we showed that KIF2C promoted HCC cell proliferation,migration,invasion,and metastasis both in vitro and in vivo.Mechanistically,we identified TBC1D7 as a binding partner of KIF2C,and this interaction disrupts the formation of the TSC complex,resulting in the enhancement of mammalian target of rapamycin complexl(mTORCI)signal transduction.Additionally,we found that KIF2C is a direct target of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway,and acts as a key factor in mediating the crosstalk between Wnt/β-catenin and mTORCI signaling.Thus,the results of our study establish a link between Wnt/β-catenin and mTORCI signaling,which highlights the potential of KIF2C as a therapeutic target for the treatment of HCC.Shi Wei Miaomiao Dai Chi Zhang Kai Teng Fengwei Wang Hongbo Li Weipeng Sun Zihao Feng Tiebang Kang Xinyuan Guan Ruihua Xu Muyan Cai Dan Xie 2021Protein & Cell2021,12,10:8
8Preparation of magnetically separable mesoporous activated carbons from brown coal with Fe3O4显示文摘Magnetically separable mesoporous activated carbon was prepared from brown coal in the presence of Fe3O4 as a bi-functional additive.Magnetic activated carbon(MAC)was characterized by lowtemperature nitrogen adsorption,scanning electron microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)and vibrating sample magnetometry(VSM).The evolution behaviors and transition mechanism of Fe3O4 during the preparation of MAC were investigated.The results show that prepared MAC with 6 wt%Fe3O4 addition having a specific surface area and mesopore ratio of 370 m^2·g^-1 and 55.7%,which meet the requirements of adsorption application and magnetic recovery.Highly dispersed iron-containing aggregates with the size of 0.1 lm in the MAC were observed.During the preparation of MAC,Fe3O4 could enhance the escape of volatiles during the carbonization.Fe3O4 could also accelerate burning off the carbon wall during activation,which leads to enlarging micropore size,then resulting in the generation of mesopore and macropore.As a result,a part of Fe3O4 converted into FeO,FeOOH,a-Fe,c-Fe,Fe2SiO4 and compound of Aluminum-iron-silicon.The prepared activated carbon,which was magnetized by both of residual Fe3O4,reduced a-Fe and c-Fe,can be easily separated from the original solution by external magnetic field.Yong Jiang Qiang Xie Yanhai Zhang Cuiyu Geng Bin Yu Juan Chi 2019International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2019,29,3:8

11Strengthening effect of Cu-rich phase precipitation in 18Cr9Ni3CuNbN austenitic heat-resisting steel显示文摘The Cu-containing austenitic heat-resistant steel 18Cr9Ni3CuNbN, which is being used as superheater and reheater tube material for modern ultra-super-critical (USC) power plants all over the world, has been investigated at 650 ℃ long time aging till 10 000 h. SEM, TEM and 3DAP (three dimensional atom probe) have been used to follow microstructural changes with mechanical property variations. Experimental results show that Cu-rich phase and MX precipitate in the grains as well as M 23 C 6 precipitates at grain boundaries are the main precipitation strengthening phases in this steel. Among them Cu-rich phase is the most important strengthening phase. Homogeneous distribution of very fine nano-size Cu-rich phase has been formed at very early stage of 650 ℃ aging (less than 1 h). Cu atoms gradually concentrate to Cu-rich particles and the other elements (such as Fe, Cr, Ni etc) diffuse away from Curich particles to γ-matrix with the increasing of aging time at 650 ? C. The growth rate of Cu-rich phase at 650 ℃ long time aging is very slow and the average diameters of Cu-rich phase have been determined by TEM method. Cu-rich phase keeps in about 30 nm till 650 ℃ aging for 10 000 h. It shows that nano-size Cu-rich phase precipitation strengthening can be kept for long time aging at 650 ℃ because of its excellent stability at high temperatures. 12A new sorbent that simultaneously sequesters multiple classes ofpollutants from water: Surfactant modified zeolite显示文摘A zeolite (ZFA) was synthesized from coal fly ash and then modified using hexadecyltrimethylammonium. The surfactant modified ZFA (SMZFA) was evaluated for its versatility to sequester multiple classes of pollutants from water. The target pollutants include ionic inorganic pollutants (ammonium and phosphate), ionic organic pollutants (methylene blue and humic acid), ionizable organic pollutants (bisphenol A,-chlorophenol and phenol, with different pKa), and electrically neutral or-ganic pollutants (aniline, nitrobenzene, and naphthalene, with different hydrophobicity). The SMZFA showed high potential for the retention of ammonium and phosphate, being comparable with ZFA. While the negative charge in the internal pores of zeolite was responsible for the retention of ammonium, the oxides of CaO, Al2O3and Fe2O3in the non-zeolite fraction, which originated from coal fly ash but received modification during zeolite synthesis, accounted for the removal of phosphate. Results also showed that while ZFA had little affinity for humic acid, the ionizable, and the electrically neutral organic compounds, SMZFA exhibited greatly enhanced adsorption capacity. Thus, the surfactant modified external surface, which formed a bilayer micelle of zeolite, imparts a hydrophobic characteristic that enables the uptake of the organic pollutants. 15Asymmetric competition for light varies across functional groups显示文摘Aims Asymmetric competition for light may depress the growth rates(GRs)to different extents for different-sized tree individuals.Various responses of different functional groups to light availability result that tree individuals of different functional groups may experience different competition intensities,e.g.canopy and deciduous species grow faster and demand more light than understory and evergreen species.In this study,we estimated the effects of asymmetric competition for light using individual GRs and explored the effects of asymmetric competition on growth among different functional groups(e.g.canopy vs.understory species and deciduous vs.evergreen species).Methods We measured growth in circumference to determine the radial increments of a total of 2233 stems with diameter at breast height≥5.0 cm in a permanent plot(140×80 m^(2))located in a typical evergreen and deciduous broadleaved mixed forest on Mt Shennongjia,China.All of the measurements were carried out at~6-month intervals every April and October from 2012 to 2014,and biomass of each individual was calculated based on its diameter and species-specific allometry.We then calculated GRs of annual biomass growth(growth between October and the next October).Considering the hypothesis that asymmetric competition for light among trees of different sizes may result in a steeper allometric growth curve with increasing tree size,we further divided the sampled trees into different subsets according to their height,at intervals of 1 m,and then fitted the scaling relationship between the logarithm of the biomass GR(logGR)and the logarithm of diameter(logD)for each height class using standardized major axis regression.Finally,we used simple linear regression to test whether the scaling exponent was related to tree height.The above analyses were conducted for the annual growth of all tree species,canopy species,understory vs.treelets species and deciduous vs.evergreen species.Important findings We observed a concave curve for the relationship between logGR and logD with an increase in the scaling exponent between logGR and logD with increasing tree height.This pattern held for the annual growth of canopy species and deciduous species but not for the annual growth of understory species,treelets or evergreen species.These results suggest that asymmetric competition for light is more important in regulating the GRs of the fast-growing species,such as canopy species and deciduous species,than those of shade-tolerant species,such as understory species,treelets and evergreen species.Qiang Guo Xiulian Chi Zongqiang Xie Zhiyao Tang 2017Journal of Plant Ecology2017,10,1:5
16Establishing a nonlethal and efficient mouse model of male gonadotoxicity by intraperitoneal busulfan injection显示文摘An ideal animal model of azoospermia would be a powerful tool for the evaluation of spermatogonial stem cell(SSC)transplantation.Busulfan has been commonly used to develop such a model,but 30%–87%of mice die when administered an intraperitoneal injection of 40 mg kg^?1.In the present study,hematoxylin and eosin staining,Western blot,immunofluorescence,and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction were used to test the effects of busulfan exposure in a mouse model that received two intraperitoneal injections of busulfan at a 3-h interval at different doses(20,30,and 40 mg kg^?1)on day 36 or a dose of 40 mg kg^?1 at different time points(0,9,18,27,36,and 63 days).The survival rate of the mice was 100%.When the mice were treated with 40 mg kg^?1 busulfan,dramatic SSC depletion occurred 18 days later and all of the germ cells were cleared by day 36.In addition,the gene expressions of glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor(GDNF),fibroblast growth factor 2(FGF2),chemokine(C-X-C Motif)ligand 12(CXCL12),and colony-stimulating factor 1(CSF1)were moderately increased by day 36.A 63-day,long-term observation showed the rare restoration of endogenous germ cells in the testes,suggesting that the potential period for SSC transplantation was between day 36 and day 63.Our results demonstrate that the administration of two intraperitoneal injections of busulfan(40 mg kg^?1 in total)at a 3-h interval to mice provided a nonlethal and efficient method for recipient preparation in SSC transplantation and could improve treatments for infertility and the understanding of chemotherapy-induced gonadotoxicity.Yun Xie Cun-Can Deng Bin Ouyang Lin-Yan Lv Jia-Hui Yao Chi Zhang Hai-Cheng Chen Xiao-Yan Liang Xiang-Zhou Sun Chun-Hua Deng Gui-Hua Liu 2020Asian Journal of Andrology2020,22,2:5
17Nosocomial Infection Surveillance in a Tuberculosis Specialized Hospital in China显示文摘Nosocomial infections(NIs) are a critical issue affecting the quality of healthcare. In this study, we performed a retrospective study to explore the incidence rates, mortality rates, and microbial spectrum of NIs in Beijing Chest Hospital, a tuberculosis(TB) specialized hospital in China. Our data demonstrate that the overall incidence rate of inpatients with NIs slightly decreased from 2012 to 2016, which may be associated with the implementation of hand hygiene measures, while the mortality rates associated with NI did not significantly change. 18Trends in insulin resistance:insights into mechanisms and therapeutic strategy显示文摘The centenary of insulin discovery represents an important opportunity to transform diabetes from a fatal diagnosis into a medically manageable chronic condition.Insulin is a key peptide hormone and mediates the systemic glucose metabolism in different tissues.Insulin resistance(IR)is a disordered biological response for insulin stimulation through the disruption of different molecular pathways in target tissues.Acquired conditions and genetic factors have been implicated in IR.Recent genetic and biochemical studies suggest that the dysregulated metabolic mediators released by adipose tissue including adipokines,cytokines,chemokines,excess lipids and toxic lipid metabolites promote IR in other tissues.IR is associated with several groups of abnormal syndromes that include obesity,diabetes,metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD),cardiovascular disease,polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS),and other abnormalities.Although no medication is specifically approved to treat IR,we summarized the lifestyle changes and pharmacological medications that have been used as efficient intervention to improve insulin sensitivity.Ultimately,the systematic discussion of complex mechanism will help to identify potential new targets and treat the closely associated metabolic syndrome of IR.Mengwei Li Xiaowei Chi Ying Wang Sarra Setrerrahmane Wenwei Xie Hanmei Xu 2022Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2022,7,8:5
19Acidity of Aerosols during Winter Heavy Haze Events in Beijing and Gucheng, China显示文摘We investigated the acidity and concentrations of water-soluble ions in PM_(2.5) aerosol samples collected from an urban site in Beijing and a rural site in Gucheng, Hebei Province from November 2016 to January 2017 to gain an insight into the formation of secondary inorganic species. The average SO_4^(2–), NO_3~–, and NH_4^+ concentrations were 8.3,12.5, and 14.1 μg m^(–3), respectively, at the urban site and 14.0, 14.2, and 24.2 μg m^(–3), respectively, at the rural site.The nitrogen and sulfur oxidation ratios in urban Beijing were correlated with relative humidity(with correlation coefficient r = 0.79 and 0.67, respectively) and the aerosol loadings. Based on a parameterization model, we found that the rate constant of the heterogeneous reactions for SO_2 on polluted days was about 10 times higher than that on clear days, suggesting that the heterogeneous reactions in the aerosol water played an essential role in haze events.The ISORROPIA II model was used to predict the aerosol pH, which had a mean(range) of 5.0(4.9–5.2) and 5.3(4.6–6.3) at the urban and rural site, respectively. Under the conditions with this predicted pH value, oxidation by dissolved NO_2 and the hydrolysis of N_2O_5 may be the major heterogeneous reactions forming SO_4^(2–) and NO_3~– in haze.We also analyzed the sensitivity of the aerosol p H to changes in the concentrations of SO_4^(2–), NO_3~–, and NH_4^+ under haze conditions. The aerosol p H was more sensitive to the SO_4^(2–) and NH_4^+ concentrations with opposing trends, than to the NO_3~– concentrations.
