| 1 | Terahertz metasurface zone plates with arbitrary polarizations to a fixed polarization conversion显示文摘Metasurfaces that can realize the polarization manipulation of electromagnetic waves on the sub-wavelength scale have become an emerging research field.Here,a novel strategy of combining the metasurface and Fresnel zone plate to form a metasurface zone plate is proposed to realize the conversion from nearly arbitrary polarizations to a fixed polarization.Specifically,when one polarized wave is incident on adjacent ring zones constructed by different types of meta-atoms,the transmitted waves generated by odd-numbered and even-numbered ring zones converge at the same focus and superimpose to generate a fixed polarized wave.As function demonstrations,we have designed two types of metasurface zone plates:one is a focused linear polarizer,and the other can convert nearly arbitrary polarized waves into focused circularly polarized waves.The simulated and measured results are consistent with theoretical expectations,suggesting that the proposed concept is flexible and feasible.Our work provides an alternative platform for polarization manipulation and may vigorously promote the development of polarization photonic devices. | Zhen Yue Jitao Li Jie Li Chenglong Zheng Jingyu Liu Guocui Wang Hang Xu Mingyang Chen Yating Zhang Yan Zhang Jianquan Yao | 2022 | Opto-Electronic Science2022,1,3: | 9 |

| 3 | MicroRNA-24 promotes pancreatic beta cells toward dedifferentiation to avoid endoplasmic reticulum stress-induced apoptosis显示文摘Current research indicates that beta cell loss in type 2 diabetes may be attributed to beta cell dedifferentiation rather than apoptosis;however,the mechanisms by which this occurs remain poorly understood.Our previous study demonstrated that elevation of microRNA-24(miR-24)in a diabetic setting caused beta cell dysfunction and replicative deficiency.In this study,we focused on the role of miR-24 in beta cell apoptosis and dedifferentiation under endoplasmic reticulum(ER)stress conditions.We found that miR-24 overabundance protected beta cells from thapsigargin-induced apoptosis at the cost of accelerating the impairment of glucosestimulated insulin secretion(GSIS)and enhancing the presence of dedifferentiation markers.Ingenuity?Pathway Analysis(IPA)revealed that elevation of miR-24 had an inhibitory effect on XBP1 and ATF4,which are downstream effectors of two key branches of ER stress,by inhibiting its direct target,Irela.Notably,elevated miR-24 initiated another pathway that targeted Mafa and decreased GSIS function in surviving beta cells,thus guiding their dedifferentiation under ER stress conditions.Our results demonstrated that the elevated miR-24,to the utmost extent,preserves beta cell mass by inhibiting apoptosis and inducing dedifFerentiation.This study not only provides a novel mechanism by which miR-24 dominates beta cell turnover under persistent metabolic stress but also offers a therapeutic consideration for treating diabetes by inducing dedifferentiated beta cells to re-differentiation. | Yunxia Zhu Yi Sun Yuncai Zhou Yan Zhang Tao Zhang Yating Li Weiyan You Xiaoai Chang Li Yuan Xiao Han | 2019 | Journal of Molecular Cell Biology2019,11,9: | 9 |

| 6 | Concentration of circulating microparticles:a new biomarker of acute heart failure after cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass显示文摘Acute heart failure(AHF)is a severe complication after cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass(CPB).Although some AHF biomarkers have been used in clinic,they have limitations when applied in the prediction and diagnosis of AHF after cardiac surgery with CPB,and there are still no effective and specific biomarkers.We and other researchers have shown that circulating microparticles(MPs)increased in a variety of cardiovascular diseases.However,whether the concentration of circulating MPs could be a new biomarker for AHF after cardiac surgery remains unknown.Here,90 patients undergoing cardiac surgery with CPB and 45 healthy subjects were enrolled.Patients were assigned into AHF(n=14)or non-AHF(n=76)group according to the diagnosis criteria of AHF.The concentrations of circulating MPs were determined before,as well as 12 h and 3 days after operation with nanoparticle tracking analysis technique.MPs concentrations in patients before surgery were significantly higher than those of healthy subjects.Plasma levels of MPs were significantly elevated at 12 h after surgery in patients with AHF,but not in those without AHF,and the circulating MPs concentrations at 12 h after surgery were higher in AHF group compared with non-AHF group.Logistic regression analysis indicated that MPs concentration at postoperative 12 h was an independent risk factor for AHF.The area under receiver operating characteristic curve for MPs concentration at postoperative 12 h was 0.87 and the best cut-off value is 5.20×10~8 particles mL~(–1)with a sensitivity of 93%and a specificity of 70%.These data suggested that the concentration of circulating MPs might be a new biomarker for the occurrence of AHF after cardiac surgery with CPB. | Yuquan Li Haoxiang Yuan Caiyun Chen Chao Chen Jian Ma Yating Chen Yan Li Yupeng Jian Donghong Liu Zhijun Ou Jingsong Ou | 2021 | Science China(Life Sciences)2021,64,1: | 3 |

| 14 | The deubiquitylase UCHL3 maintains cancer stem-like properties by stabilizing the aryl hydrocarbon receptor显示文摘Cancer stem cells(CSCs)exhibit highly aggressive and metastatic features and resistance to chemotherapy and radiotherapy.Aryl hydrocarbon receptor(AhR)expression varies among non-small cell lung cancers(NSCLCs),and the mechanisms that support abnormal AhR expression in CSCs remain elusive.Here,we identified ubiquitin carboxyl terminal hydrolase L3(UCHL3),a DUB enzyme in the UCH protease family,as a bona fide deubiquitylase of the AhR in NSCLC.UCHL3 was shown to interact with,deubiquitylate,and stabilize AhR in a manner dependent on its deubiquitylation activity.Moreover,we showed that UCHL3 promotes the stem-like characteristics and potent tumorigenic capacity of NSCLC cells.UCHL3 increased AhR stability and the binding of AhR to the promoter regions of the“stemness”genes ATP-binding cassette subfamily G member 2(ABCG2),KLF4,and c-Myc.Depletion of UCHL3 markedly downregulated the“stemness”genes ABCG2,KLF4,and c-Myc,leading to the loss of selfrenewal and tumorigenesis in NSCLCs.Furthermore,the UCHL3 inhibitor TCID induced AhR degradation and exhibited significantly attenuated efficacy in NSCLC cells with stem cell-like properties.Additionally,UCHL3 was shown to indicate poor prognosis in patients with lung adenocarcinoma.In general,our results reveal that the UCHL3 deubiquitylase is pivotal for AhR protein stability and a potential target for NSCLC-targeted therapy. | Lianlian Ouyang Bin Yan Yating Liu Chao Mao Min Wang Na Liu Zuli Wang Shouping Liu Ying Shi Ling Chen Xiang Wang Yan Cheng Ya Cao Desheng Xiao Lingqiang Zhang Shuang Liu Yongguang Tao | 2020 | Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2020,5,1: | 1 |
| 15 | Effectiveness of a multifaceted intervention for the improvement of nutritional status and nutrition knowledge of children in poverty-stricken areas in Shaanxi Province, China显示文摘Objectives:Compare the differences between the intervention and control groups in changes of primary outcomes(body mass index[BMI]and waist-to-height ratio[WHtR])and secondary outcomes(nutrition knowledge of children and parents),from baseline to the 6-and 12-month follow-ups;examine the associations of changes in nutrition knowledge of children and their parents with children’s changes in BMI and WHtR.Data sources:Data collected from four schools in two poverty-stricken counties in northern Shaanxi Province in 2020‒2021.Methods:A multifaced intervention program targeted children(promoting healthy diet and nutrition education)and their parents(promoting nutrition knowledge)was conducted in the interventional group.Four schools,with two in each group,were randomly allocated to the intervention or control group,with 814 eligible children aged 7.1 to 12.8 years.The control group conducted myopia promotion.Differences in changes of BMI and WHtR between groups were compared with t-test.Mixed-effects model was used to examine the associations between changes in nutrition knowledge of children and parents with changes in children’s BMI and WHtR.Results:At the 6-month follow-up,the difference in changes in BMI between the intervention and control groups was 0.4 kg/m 2(P<0.001).At the 12-month follow-up,the difference in changes in BMI and WHtR between intervention and control groups was 0.1 kg/m^(2)(P<0.001)and 0.01 kg/m^(2)(P<0.001).In the intervention group,the nutrition knowledge awareness rate of children increased from 16.9%(69/409)at baseline to 21.3%(87/409)at 6-month,and 22.7%(93/409)at 12-month.The awareness rate of nutrition knowledge of parents also fluctuated,from 5.6%(23/409)to 6.6%(27/409)and 5.4%(22/409).However,the difference in changes in nutrition knowledge between intervention and control groups was non-significant.The 6-month follow-up changes in children’s nutrition knowledge scores were negatively associated with changes in BMI in girls(β=−0.26,95%confidence interval[CI]:−0.38 to−0.14,P<0.001),while positively associated with changes in WHtR in boys(β=0.003,95%CI:−0.0002 to 0.005,P=0.035).The 12-month follow-up changes in children’s nutrition knowledge scores were positively associated with changes in children’s WHtR(β=0.003,95%CI:0.0004 to 0.01,P=0.018).Conclusions:The intervention strategies did not reduce the BMI and WHtR of children,and the nutrition knowledge of children and parents increased after the intervention in intervention group.Changes in nutrition knowledge of children and their parents are associated with changes in children’s BMI or WHtR.Interventions with a new focus on obesity are needed to help improve children’s nutritional status in poverty-stricken areas in Shaanxi Province of China. | Cai Zhao Lu Ma Liwang Gao Yan Wu Yating Yan Wen Peng Youfa Wang | 2022 | Global Health Journal2022,6,3: | 1 |

| 17 | Metal–ligand interfaces for well-defined gold nanoclusters显示文摘Ligand engineering for well-defined gold nanoclusters(Au NCs) is getting more extensive attention. Organizing the Au-ligand interfaces on gold NCs can achieve the structural and functional control. This review focuses on the Au-ligand interfaces including gold-phosphorus(Au-P), gold-sulfur(Au-S), gold-selenium(Au-Se), gold-carbon(Au-C), and gold-nitrogen(Au-N), derived from the bonding between Au atoms and the different ligands(e.g., organic phosphine, thiolate, selenolate, alkynyl,n-heterocyclic carbene and nitrogenous ligands). The formation mechanism of Au-ligand interfaces is well discussed. In addition, the effects of Au-ligand interfaces on the stability, optical property, and catalysis are also presented. | 18 | Epidemiological survey and genetic characterization of type 3 vaccine-derived poliovirus isolated from a patient with four doses of inactivated polio vaccine in Henan Province,China显示文摘Background:Vaccine-derived poliovirus(VDPV)is a potential threat to polio eradication because they can reintroduce into the general population and cause paralytic polio outbreaks,a phenomenon that has recently emerged as a prominent public health concern at the end of global polio eradication.This study aimed to describe the epidemiology and genetic characteristics of the frst VDPV identifed from a patient with acute faccid paralysis(AFP),with four doses of inactivated polio vaccine immunization in Henan Province,China in 2017.Methods:The patient was diagnosed with type 3 VDPV.Subsequently,a series of epidemiological approaches was implemented,including a retrospective search of AFP cases,rate of vaccination assessment,study of contacts,and supplementary immunization activities.Fecal samples were collected,viral isolation was performed,and the viral isolates were characterized using full-length genomic sequencing and bioinformatic analysis.Results:Phylogenetic analysis showed that the viral isolates from the patient were diferent from other reported genetic clusters of type 3 VDPV worldwide.They were identifed as a Sabin 3/Sabin 1 recombinant VDPV with a crossover site in the P2 region.Nucleotide substitutions,including U→C(472)and C→U(2493),have been identifed,both of which are frequently observed as reversion mutations in neurovirulent type 3 poliovirus.A unique aspect of this case is that the patient had been vaccinated with four doses of inactive polio vaccine,and the serum neutralizing antibody for Sabin types 1 and 3 were 1∶16 and 1∶512,respectively.Thus,the patient was speculated to have been infected with type 3 VDPV,and the virus continued to replicate and be excreted for at least 41 d.Conclusions:The existence of this kind of virus in human population is a serious risk and poses a severe challenge in maintaining a polio-free status in China.To the best of our knowledge,this is the frst report of VDPV identifed in the Henan province of China.Our results highlight the importance of maintaining a high-level vaccination rate and highly sensitive AFP case surveillance system in intercepting VDPV transmission. | Mingyu Zhang Jianhui Yang Yiran Bai Hui Zhu Changshuang Wang Lu Zhang Jin Xu Mingxia Lu Xiaoxiao Zhang Zhanpei Xiao Yating Ma Yan Wang Xiaolei Li Dongyan Wang Shuangli Zhu Dongmei Yan Wenbo Xu Yong Zhang Yanyang Zhang | 2022 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2022,11,6: | 0 |
