1Coding metamaterials, digital metamaterials and programmable metamaterials显示文摘Metamaterials are artificial structures that are usually described by effective medium parameters on the macroscopic scale,and these metamaterials are referred to as‘analog metamaterials’.Here,we propose‘digital metamaterials’through two steps.First,we present‘coding metamaterials’that are composed of only two types of unit cells,with 0 and p phase responses,which we name‘0’and‘1’elements,respectively.By coding‘0’and‘1’elements with controlled sequences(i.e.,1-bit coding),we can manipulate electromagnetic(EM)waves and realize different functionalities.The concept of coding metamaterials can be extended from 1-bit coding to 2-bit coding or higher.In 2-bit coding,four types of unit cells,with phase responses of 0,p/2,p,and 3p/2,are required to mimic the‘00’,‘01’,‘10’and‘11’elements,respectively.The 2-bit coding has greater freedom than 1-bit coding for controlling EM waves.Second,we propose a unique metamaterial particle that has either a‘0’or‘1’response controlled by a biased diode.Based on this particle,we present‘digital metamaterials’with unit cells that possess either a‘0’or‘1’state.Using a field-programmable gate array,we realize digital control over the digital metamaterial.By programming different coding sequences,a single digital metamaterial has the ability to manipulate EM waves in different manners,thereby realizing‘programmable metamaterials’.The above concepts and physical phenomena are confirmed through numerical simulations and experiments using metasurfaces.Tie Jun Cui Mei Qing Qi Xiang Wan Jie Zhao Qiang Cheng 2014Light(Science & Applications)2014,3,1:130

3The Reference Genome Sequence of Scutellaria baicalensis Provides Insights into the Evolution of Wogonin Biosynthesis显示文摘Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi is important in Chinese traditional medicine where preparations of dried roots,'Huang Qin,' are used for liver and lung complaints and as complementary cancer treatments. We report a high-quality reference genome sequence for S. baicalensis where 93% of the 408.14-Mb genome has been assembled into nine pseudochromosomes with a super-N50 of 33.2 Mb. Comparison of this sequence with those of closely related species in the order Lamiales, sesamum indicum and Salvia splendens,revealed that a specialized metabolic pathway for the synthesis of 4'-deoxyflavone bioactives evolved in the genus Scu-tellaria. We found that the gene encoding a specific cinnamate coenzyme A ligase likely obtained its newfunc- tion following recent mutations, and that four genes encoding enzymes in the 4'-deoxyflavone pathway are present as tandem repeats in the genome of S. baicalensis. Further analyses revealed that gene duplications, segmental duplication, gene amplification, and point mutations coupled to gene neo- and subfunctionaliza-tions were involved in the evolution of 4'-deoxyflavone synthesis in the genus Scutellaria. Our study not only provides significant insight into the evolution of specific flavone biosynthetic pathways in the mint family, Lamiaceae, but also will facilitate the development of tools for enhancing bioactive productivity by metabolic engineering in microbes or by molecular breeding in plants. 4High-speed maneuvering target detection approach based on joint RFT and keystone transform显示文摘Increasing the integration time is an effective method to improve small maneuvering target detection performance in radar applications.However,range migration and Doppler spread caused by maneuvering target motion during the integration time make it difficult to improve the coherent accumulation of target's energy and detection performance.In this study,a new method based on Radon Fourier transform(RFT) and keystone transform(KT) for high-speed maneuvering target detection is proposed.The proposed algorithm utilizes second-order KT to correct the range curvature,and the improved dechirping method to compensate for the Doppler spread.RFT is then used to correct the range walk for target coherent detection.The method is capable of correcting the range migration and the time-varied Doppler frequency of the target without knowing its velocity and acceleration.The advantage of the proposed method is that it can increase the coherent integration time and improve detection performance under the condition of Doppler frequency ambiguity.Compared with the second-order RFT algorithm,the computational burden of the proposed method is greatly reduced under the premise that the two methods have similar estimation accuracy of range,velocity and acceleration.Numerical experiments demonstrate the validity of the proposed algorithm.TIAN Jing CUI Wei SHEN Qing WEI ZiXiang WU SiLiang 2013Science China(Information Sciences)2013,56,6:19

6DEC1 nuclear expression:A marker of differentiation grade in hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘AIM: To investigate the expression patterns of human differentiated embryo chondrocyte 1 (DEC1) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and corresponding adjacent non-tumor and the normal liver tissues, the association between DEC1 expression and histopathological variables and the role of DEC1 in hepatocarcinogenesis. METHODS: The expression of DEC1 was detected immunohistochemically in 176 paraffin-embedded sections from 63 patients with HCC and 50 subjects with normal liver tissues. RESULTS: DEC1 protein was persistently expressed in the cytoplasm of hepatocytes in normal liver and HCC tissues. Compared with adjacent non-tumor liver tissues, HCC tissues showed high nuclear expression of DEC1 protein. However, high DEC1 nuclear expression was more frequently detected in well-differentiated (83.3%) than in moderately (27.3%) and poorly differentiated HCC (16.7%). Low DEC1 expression was associated with poor histological differentiation and malignancy progression. A correlation was found between the nuclear expression of DEC1 protein and histological differentiation (r = 0.376, P = 0.024). 8The effect of dissolved oxygen concentration on long-term stability of partial nitrification process显示文摘Dissolved oxygen(DO)concentration is regarded as one of the crucial factors to influence partial nitrification process.However,achieving and keeping stable partial nitrification under different DO concentrations were widely reported.The mechanism of DO concentration influencing partial nitrification is still unclear.Therefore,in this study two same sequencing batch reactors(SBRs)cultivated same seeding sludge were built up with realtime control strategy.Different DO concentrations were controlled in SBRs to explore the effect of DO concentration on the long-term stability of partial nitrification process at room temperature.It was discovered that ammonium oxidation rate(AOR)was inhibited when DO concentration decreased from 2.5 to 0.5 mg/L.The abundance of Nitrospira increased from 1011.5 to 1013.7 copies/g DNA,and its relative percentage increased from 0.056%to 3.2%during 190 operational cycles,causing partial nitrification gradually turning into complete nitrification process.However,when DO was 2.5 mg/L the abundance of Nitrospira was stable and AOB was always kept at 1010.7 copies/g DNA.High AOR was maintained,and stable partial nitrification process was kept.Ammonia oxidizing bacteria(AOB)activity was significantly higher than nitrite oxidizing bacteria(NOB)activity at DO of 2.5 mg/L,which was crucial to maintain excellent nitrite accumulation performance.Bin Cui Qing Yang Xiuhong Liu Siting Huang Yubing Yang Zhibin Liu 2020Journal of Environmental Sciences2020,32,4:12
9Diurnal characteristics of geoelectric fields and their changes associated with the Alxa Zuoqi M_S5.8 earthquake on 15 April 2015(Inner Mongolia)显示文摘In China, efforts are being made to monitor geoelectric fields through a large network of stations deployed and managed by the China Earthquake Administration. The diurnal variations in the geoelectric field waveforms were similar in the quiet magnetic periods when K<5(generally, K<3 indicates a quiet time). The arrival time points of the maxima in the geoelectric field waveforms exhibited differences in local time related to geographic longitude. The amplitude of diurnal variation was several to 16.6 mV/km and decreased with increasing latitude. Further,the amplitude of diurnal variation, which was related to seasonal changes, was larger in summer and autumn than in spring and winter. The periods of diurnal changes during quiet days were 24, 12, 8, 6, 4 hours and several minutes over large areas. 12The family Amanitaceae: molecular phylogeny, higher-rank taxonomy and the species in China显示文摘Mushrooms in the basidiomycete family Amanitaceae are very important both economically and ecologically.However,the delimitation of the family is still controversial,in part due to limited taxon sampling and in part because of insufficient gene fragment employed for molecular phylogenetic analyses.Furthermore,species diversity in the family is likely to have been largely underestimated,due to morphological similarity between taxa and phenotypic plasticity.In this study,we examined 1190 collections,including 1008 Chinese and 182 external ones,and performed the first comprehensive phylogenetic analyses of Amanitaceae using multi-locus sequence data.To test the monophyly of the Amanitaceae,a concatenated(nrLSU,rpb1,and rpb2)dataset of 200 taxa of the order Agaricales was analyzed.To infer the phylogeny of Amanitaceae,a concatenated nrLSU,tef1-a,rpb2 and b-tubulin dataset(3010 sequences from ca.890 samples with 2309 newly generated sequences)was used.In this dataset,252 sequences from the types of 77 species were provided.Our results indicate that Amanitaceae is a monophyletic group,and consists of five genera,namely Amanita,Catatrama,Limacella,Limacellopsis and Myxoderma.It is clear that Catatrama is closely related to Limacella,however,the phylogenetic relationships among these genera remain largely unresolved.Amanita contains 95%of the species in the family,and is here divided into three subgenera and eleven sections(subgen.Amanita,containing:sect.Amanita,sect.Amarrendiae,sect.Caesareae and sect.Vaginatae;subgen.Amanitina,containing:sect.Amidella,sect.Arenariae,sect.Phalloideae,sect.Roanokenses,sect.Strobiliformes and sect.Validae;and subgen.Lepidella,containing sect.Lepidella).Subgen.Lepidella occupies the basal position in the genus.One-hundred and sixty-two species of Amanitaceae known from China are treated in this study,including 50 novel species and 112 known taxa.Amanita gleocystidiosa,A.pyriformis,A.atrofusca,A.subjunquillea var.alba and A.areolata are treated as synonyms of A.sychnopyramis f.subannulata,A.orientigemmata,A.umbrinolutea,A.subjunquillea and A.zangii,respectively.26 extralimital taxa including a novel species,namelyCatatrama indica,were included in our study to allow us to make comparisons between these and the Chinese taxa.DNA sequence data for all the species of Amanitaceae in China and keys for identification of the species are provided.Yang-Yang Cui Qing Cai Li-Ping Tang Jian-Wei Liu Zhu L.Yang 2018Fungal Diversity2018,,4:10

14Association between large artery stenosis,cerebral small vessel disease and risk of ischemic stroke显示文摘We aimed to assess the associations of large artery stenosis(LAS)and cerebral small vessel disease(CSVD)with the risk of ischemic stroke and to investigate their respective and combined contributions.In the prospective population-based Shunyi Study,1,082 stroke-free participants aged 55.9±9.1 years were included.Participants were followed for incident stroke throughout the study period(2013-2019).Total small vessel disease score was used to measure CSVD burden.Cervico-cerebral large artery stenosis was evaluated via brain magnetic resonance angiography and carotid ultrasound.We estimated the risk of ischemic stroke in relation to LAS and CSVD with Cox regression models.During a mean follow-up of 4.2 years,34 participants(3.1%)experienced at least one ischemic stroke.Severe LAS(≥50% stenosis versus no stenosis:HR=3.27(95%CI:1.31-8.18))and high CSVD burden(total small vessel disease score 2-4 versus 0 point:HR=12.73(4.83-33.53))were associated with increased stroke risk independently.In multivariate models,CSVD burden(7.72%)explained a larger portion of the variation in stroke risk than severity of LAS(3.49%).Our findings identified that both LAS and CSVD were associated with future ischemic stroke in asymptomatic subjects,while those with high CSVD burden deserve more attention in primary prevention of stroke.Fei Han Ding-Ding Zhang Fei-Fei Zhai Jun Xue Jiang-Tao Zhang Shuang Yan Li-Xin Zhou Jun Ni Ming Yao Meng Yang Ming-Li Li Zheng-Yu Jin Qing Dai Shu-Yang Zhang Li-Ying Cui Yi-Cheng Zhu 2021Science China(Life Sciences)2021,64,9:9

19Zika virus infection induces RNAi-mediated antiviral immunity in human neural progenitors and brain organoids显示文摘The re-emergence of Zika virus(ZIKV)in the Western Hemisphere has resulted in global public health crisis since 2015.ZIKV preferentially infects and targets human neural progenitor cells(hNPCs)and causes fetal microcephaly upon maternal infection.hNPCs not only play critical roles during fetal brain development,but also persist in adult brain throughout life.Yet the mechanism of innate antiviral immunity in hNPCs remains largely unknown.Here,we show that ZIKV infection triggers the abundant production of virus-derived small interfering RNAs in hNPCs,but not in the more differentiated progenies or somatic cells.Ablation of key RNAi machinery components significantly enhances ZIKV replication in hNPCs.Furthermore,enoxacin,a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is known as an RNAi enhancer,exerts potent anti-ZIKV activity in hNPCs and other RNAi-competent cells.Strikingly,enoxacin treatment completely prevents ZIKV infection and circumvents ZIKV-induced microcephalic phenotypes in brain organoid models that recapitulate human fetal brain development.Our findings highlight the physiological importance of RNAi-mediated antiviral immunity during the early stage of human brain development,uncovering a novel strategy to combat human congenital viral infections through enhancing RNAi.Yan-Peng Xu Yang Qiu Boya Zhang Guilai Chen Qi Chen Miao Wang Fan Mo Jiuyue Xu Jin Wu Rong-Rong Zhang Meng-Li Cheng Na-Na Zhang Bao Lyu Wen-Liang Zhu Meng-Hua Wu Qing Ye Da Zhang Jiang-Hong Man Xiao-Feng Li Jie Cui Zhiheng Xu Baoyang Hu Xi Zhou Cheng-Feng Qin 2019Cell Research2019,29,4:8
