| 10 | A Simple yet Effective Framework for Active Learning to Rank显示文摘While China has become the largest online market in the world with approximately 1 billion internet users,Baidu runs the world's largest Chinese search engine serving more than hundreds of millions of daily active users and responding to billions of queries per day.To handle the diverse query requests from users at the web-scale,Baidu has made tremendous efforts in understanding users'queries,retrieving relevant content from a pool of trillions of webpages,and ranking the most relevant webpages on the top of the res-ults.Among the components used in Baidu search,learning to rank(LTR)plays a critical role and we need to timely label an extremely large number of queries together with relevant webpages to train and update the online LTR models.To reduce the costs and time con-sumption of query/webpage labelling,we study the problem of active learning to rank(active LTR)that selects unlabeled queries for an-notation and training in this work.Specifically,we first investigate the criterion-Ranking entropy(RE)characterizing the entropy of relevant webpages under a query produced by a sequence of online LTR models updated by different checkpoints,using a query-by-com-mittee(QBC)method.Then,we explore a new criterion namely prediction variances(PV)that measures the variance of prediction res-ults for all relevant webpages under a query.Our empirical studies find that RE may favor low-frequency queries from the pool for la-belling while PV prioritizes high-frequency queries more.Finally,we combine these two complementary criteria as the sample selection strategies for active learning.Extensive experiments with comparisons to baseline algorithms show that the proposed approach could train LTR models to achieve higher discounted cumulative gain(i.e.,the relative improvement DCG4=1.38%)with the same budgeted labellingefforts. | Qingzhong Wang Haifang Li Haoyi Xiong Wen Wang Jiang Bian Yu Lu Shuaiqiang Wang Zhicong Cheng Dejing Dou Dawei Yin | 2024 | Machine Intelligence Research2024,21,1: | 0 |

| 12 | Recognition for avian influenza virus proteins based on support vector machine and linear discriminant analysis显示文摘Total 200 properties related to structural characteristics were employed to represent structures of 400 HA coded proteins of influenza virus as training samples. Some recognition models for HA proteins of avian influenza virus (AIV) were developed using support vector machine (SVM) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA). The results obtained from LDA are as follows: the identification accuracy (Ria) for training samples is 99.8% and Ria by leave one out cross validation is 99.5%. Both Ria of 99.8% for training samples and Ria of 99.3% by leave one out cross validation are obtained using SVM model, respectively. External 200 HA proteins of influenza virus were used to validate the external predictive power of the resulting model. | 14 | Spatio-temporal analysis of the melt onset dates over Arctic sea ice from 1979 to 2017显示文摘The melt onset dates(MOD)over Arctic sea ice plays an important role in the seasonal cycle of sea ice surface properties,which impacts Arctic surface solar radiation absorbed by the ice-ocean system.Monitoring interannual variations in MOD is valuable for understanding climate change.In this study,we investigated the spatio-temporal variability of MOD over Arctic sea ice and 14 Arctic sub-regions in the period of 1979 to 2017 from passive microwave satellite data.A set of mathematical and statistical methods,including the Sen’s slope and Mann-Kendall mutation tests,were used to comprehensively assess the variation trend and abrupt points of MOD during the past 39 years for different Arctic sub-regions.Additionally,the correlation between Arctic Oscillation(AO)and MOD was analyzed.The results indicate that:(1)all Arctic sub-regions show a trend toward earlier MOD except the Bering Sea and St.Lawrence Gulf.The East Siberian Sea exhibits a significantly earlier trend,with the highest rate of-9.45 d/decade;(2)the temporal variability and statistical significance of MOD trend exhibit large interannual differences with different time windows for most regions in the Arctic;(3)during the past 39 years,the MOD changed abruptly in different years for different sub-regions;(4)the seasonal AO has more influence on MOD than monthly AO.The findings in this study can improve our knowledge of MOD changes and are beneficial for further Arctic climate change study. | Shuang Liang Jiangyuan Zeng Zhen Li Dejing Qiao | 2022 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2022,41,4: | 0 |
