| 1 | Identification of a senescence-related protease in coriander leaves显示文摘Senescence-related protease may play an important role in leaf senescence. By improved SDS-Gela-tin-PAGE assay, a 63 ku senescence-related protease (63 SRP) in coriander leaves was identified. Activity of 63 SRP was increased in parallel to the advance of coriander leaf senescence, and inhibited by treating the leaf with gibberellic acid, and enhanced by ethylene treatment. The 63 SRP was suggested to be a serine protease based on the fact that its activity was inhibited by the protease inhibitor PMSF. The optimal temperature for the activity of the 70 ku protease was 50°C. The maximal activity was observed at pH 6-9, some activity could be observed on the gel slices incubated at pH 5 or 11. | 6 | Our recent progress in epigenetic research using the model ciliate, Tetrahymena thermophila显示文摘Epigenetic research focuses on heritable changes beyond the DNA sequence, which has led to a revolution in biologicalstudies and benefits in many other fields. The well-known model ciliate, Tetrahymena thermophila offers a unique system forepigenetic studies due to its nuclear dimorphism and special mode of sexual reproduction (conjugation), as well as abundantgenomic resources and genetic tools. In this paper, we summarize recent progress made by our research team and collaboratorsin understanding epigenetic mechanisms using Tetrahymena. | 11 | Variation of diffuse attenuation coefficient of downwelling irradiance in the Arctic Ocean显示文摘The diffuse attenuation coefficient(Kd) for downwelling irradiance is calculated from solar irradiance data measured in the Arctic Ocean during 3rd and 4th Chinese National Arctic Research Expedition(CHINARE), including 18 stations and nine stations selected for irradiance profiles in sea water respectively. In this study, the variation of attenuation coefficient in the Arctic Ocean was studied, and the following results were obtained. First, the relationship between attenuation coefficient and chlorophyll concentration in the Arctic Ocean has the form of a power function. The best fit is at 443 nm, and its determination coefficient is more than 0.7. With increasing wavelength, the determination coefficient decreases abruptly. At 550 nm, it even reaches a value lower than 0.2. However, the exponent fitted is only half of that adapted in low-latitude ocean because of the lower chlorophyll-specific absorption in the Arctic Ocean. The upshot was that, in the case of the same chlorophyll concentration, the attenuation caused by phytoplankton chlorophyll in the Arctic Ocean is lower than in low-latitude ocean. Second, the spectral model, which exhibits the relationship of attenuation coefficients between 490 nm and other wavelength, was built and provided a new method to estimate the attenuation coefficient at other wavelength, if the attenuation coefficient at 490 nm was known. Third, the impact factors on attenuation coefficient, including sea ice and sea water mass, were discussed. The influence of sea ice on attenuation coefficient is indirect and is determined through the control of entering solar radiation. The linear relationship between averaging sea ice concentration(ASIC, from 158 Julian day to observation day) and the depth of maximum chlorophyll is fitted by a simple linear equation. In addition, the sea water mass, such as the ACW(Alaskan Coastal Water), directly affects the amount of chlorophyll through taking more nutrient, and results in the higher attenuation coefficient in the layer of 30–60 m. | 17 | Blunt chest impact leading to acute myocardial infarction in a young man: a rare finding of both coronary artery dissection and pseudoaneurysm显示文摘To the editor:A 22-year-old man was admitted without significant heart complaint,but with a diagnosis of myocardial infarction at a local hospital.Two months earlier,he suffered blunt chest impact and maxillofacial trauma due to an accident falling from a 3-meterhigh balcony.He has previously been healthy without any family history of disease.Physical examination on admission revealed mandibular tenderness and a traumatic blindness in the left eye.Electrocardiogram demonstrated significant ST segment elevation in V1.5,abnormally Q waves and inverted T waves in V2-5 (Figure 1A).Coronary angiography (CAG) demonstrated a pseudoaneurysm originating from the distal segment of the left main coronary artery (LMCA) and dissection in ostial/proximal left anterior descending artery (LAD) with severe stenosis (about 90%) with TIMI 3 flow (Figure 1B).For interventional treatment,CAG was repeated one week later.Surprisingly,the results showed that LAD stenosis significantly reduced to 65%,while the size of pseudoaneurysm was the same,indicating no need for intervention (Figure 1C).Under medical treatment with aspirin,clopidogrel and beta-blocker,his clinical condition was stable,only with slight shortness of breath.Eight months after the trauma,myocardial magnetic resonance were performed,indicating decreased left ventricular function with ejection fraction of 28.6% (end-diastolic volume 192.5 ml,end-systolic volume 137.5 ml,stroke volume 55.0 ml),and transmural myocardial scarring in the anterior wall and apex. | Zhao Weibo Li Yonghua Hu Houyuan | 2014 | Chinese Medical Journal2014,,17: | 1 |
