3Implications of the immunoregulatory functions of mesenchymal stem cells in the treatment of human liver diseases显示文摘Transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)has been recently studied in animal models,and in clinical trials of patients with fulminant hepatic failure,end-stage liver diseases and inherited metabolic disorders.Modulatory cytokines produced by MSCs can inhibit immunocyte proliferation and migration to the liver,thereby attenuating inflammatory injury and reducing hepatocyte apoptosis.In addition,MSCs play an important role in regressing liver fibrosis and in supporting the function,proliferation and differentiation of endogenous hepatocytes under appropriate conditions.Although remarkable progress has been achieved in basic and clinical MSC studies,optimal therapeutic regimens for the clinical application of MSCs,such as optimal doses,transplantation routine and interval period for transplantation,need to be elucidated in detail.Furthermore,the long-term safety and therapeutic efficacy of MSC transplantation should be evaluated in future clinical trials.This review summarizes our current understanding of the immunomodulatory effects of MSC therapies on human liver diseases.Hu Lin Ruonan Xu Zheng Zhang Liming Chen Ming Shi Fu-Sheng Wang 2011Cellular & Molecular Immunology2011,8,1:26
4Exercise-induced irisin in bone and systemic irisin administration reveal new regulatory mechanisms of bone metabolism显示文摘Irisin is a polypeptide hormone derived from the proteolytic cleavage of fibronectin-type III domaincontaining 5(FNDC5) protein. Once released to circulation upon exercise or cold exposure, irisin stimulates browning of white adipose tissue(WAT) and uncoupling protein 1(UCP1) expression, leading to an increase in total body energy expenditure by augmented UCP1-mediated thermogenesis. It is currently unknown whether irisin is secreted by bone upon exercise or whether it regulates bone metabolism in vivo. In this study, we found that 2 weeks of voluntary wheel-running exercise induced high levels of FNDC5 messenger RNA as well as FNDC5/irisin protein expression in murine bone tissues. Increased immunoreactivity due to exercise-induced FNDC5/irisin expression was detected in different regions of exercised femoral bones,including growth plate, trabecular bone, cortical bone, articular cartilage, and bone–tendon interface. Exercise also increased expression of osteogenic markers in bone and that of UCP1 in WAT, and led to bodyweight loss. Irisin intraperitoneal(IP) administration resulted in increased trabecular and cortical bone thickness and osteoblasts numbers, and concurrently induced UCP1 expression in subcutaneous WAT. Lentiviral FNDC5 IP administration increased cortical bone thickness. In vitro studies in bone cells revealed irisin increases osteoblastogenesis and mineralization, and inhibits receptor activator of nuclear factor-k B ligand(RANKL)-induced osteoclastogenesis. 6Humification characterization of biochar and its potential as a composting amendment显示文摘Biochar has received increasing attention due to its applications as a soil amendment. Here, the chemical properties of solid and water-extractable fractions of four biochar samples were investigated. The results showed that wood biochar and bamboo biochar samples were 60%–80% more hydrophobic than those of rice husk biochar and rice husk ash. In addition, the acidity was 3.88 mmol/g from the total functional groups and 1.03 mmol/g from the carboxyl groups/lactones/phenols found in the wood biochar sample, which were about 1.5 times greater than those of the bamboo biochar sample. These functional groups could be used to determine the sorptive capacity of biochar for ionic solutes and water content and to increase the degradation of compost organics. The wood biochar sample was found to have the most humification materials(fulvic acid-like material + humic acid-like material) in the water-extractable fraction, which was 3–10 times higher than that in the rice husk biochar and rice husk ash; humified materials were not detected in the bamboo biochar sample. Humification materials in biochar may be involved in increasing the proportion of humic acid-like materials in humic-like substances within the compost product. 10Multimorbidity patterns and association with mortality in 0.5 million Chinese adults显示文摘Background:Few studies have assessed the relationship between multimorbidity patterns and mortality risk in the Chinese population.We aimed to identify multimorbidity patterns and examined the associations of multimorbidity patterns and the number of chronic diseases with the risk of mortality among Chinese middle-aged and older adults.Methods:We used data from the China Kadoorie Biobank and included 512,723 participants aged 30 to 79 years.Multimorbidity was defined as the presence of two or more of the 15 chronic diseases collected by self-report or physical examination at baseline.Multimorbidity patterns were identified using hierarchical cluster analysis.Cox regression was used to estimate the associations of multimorbidity patterns and the number of chronic diseases with all-cause and cause-specific mortality.Results:Overall,15.8%of participants had multimorbidity.The prevalence of multimorbidity increased with age and was higher in urban than rural participants.Four multimorbidity patterns were identified,including cardiometabolic multimorbidity(diabetes,coronary heart disease,stroke,and hypertension),respiratory multimorbidity(tuberculosis,asthma,and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease),gastrointestinal and hepatorenal multimorbidity(gallstone disease,chronic kidney disease,cirrhosis,peptic ulcer,and cancer),and mental and arthritis multimorbidity(neurasthenia,psychiatric disorder,and rheumatoid arthritis).During a median of 10.8 years of follow-up,49,371 deaths occurred.Compared with participants without multimorbidity,cardiometabolic multimorbidity(hazard ratios[HR]=2.20,95%confidence intervals[CI]:2.14-2.26)and respiratory multimorbidity(HR=2.13,95%CI:1.97-2.31)demonstrated relatively higher risks of mortality,followed by gastrointestinal and hepatorenal multimorbidity(HR=1.33,95%CI:1.22-1.46).The mortality risk increased by 36%(HR=1.36,95%CI:1.35-1.37)with every additional disease.Conclusion:Cardiometabolic multimorbidity and respiratory multimorbidity posed the highest threat on mortality risk and deserved particular attention in Chinese adults.Junning Fan Zhijia Sun Canqing Yu Yu Guo Pei Pei Ling Yang Yiping Chen Huaidong Du Dianjianyi Sun Yuanjie Pang Jun Zhang Simon Gilbert Daniel Avery Junshi Chen Zhengming Chen Jun Lyu Liming Li On Behalf of the China Kadoorie Biobank Collaborative Group 2022Chinese Medical Journal2022,,6:17
11A carbon-oxygen-bridged ladder-type building block for efficient donor and acceptor materials used in organic solar cells显示文摘A carbon-oxygen-bridged ladder-type donor unit(CO5) was invented and prepared via an ‘‘intramolecular demethanolization cyclization' approach. Its single crystal structure indicates enhanced planarity compared with the carbon-bridged analogue indacenodithiophene(IDT). Owing to the stronger electron-donating capability of CO5 than IDT, CO5-based donor and acceptor materials show narrower bandgaps. A donor-acceptor(D-A) copolymer donor(PCO5TPD) and an A-D-A nonfullerene acceptor(CO5IC) demonstrated higher performance than IDT-based counterparts, PIDTTPD and IDTIC, respectively. 13Release of volatile organic compounds during bio-drying of municipal solid waste显示文摘Three treatments were tested to investigate the release concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during the bio-drying of municipal solid waste (MSW) by the aerobic and combined hydrolytic-aerobic processes.Results showed that VOCs were largely released in the first 4 days of bio-drying and the dominant components were:dimethyl disulfide,dimethyl sulfide,benzene,2-butanone,limonene and methylene chloride.Thus,the combined hydrolytic-aerobic process was suggested for MSW bio-drying due to fewer aeration quantities in this phase when compared with the aerobic process,and the treatment strategies should base on the key properties of these prominent components.Malodorous sulfur compounds and terpenes were mainly released in the early phase of bio-drying,whereas,two peaks of release concentrations appeared for aromatics and ketones during bio-drying.Notably,for the combined hydrolytic-aerobic processes there were also high concentrations of released aromatics in the shift from hydrolytic to aerobic stages.High concentrations of released chlorinateds were observed in the later phase.For the VOCs produced during MSW bio-drying,i.e.,malodorous sulfur compounds,terpenes and chlorinateds,their release concentrations were mainly determined by production rates;for the VOCs presented initially in MSW,such as aromatics,their transfer and transport in MSW mainly determined the release concentrations.Pinjing He,Jiafu Tang,Dongqing Zhang,Yang Zeng,Liming ShaoState Key Laboratory of Pollution Control and Resource Reuse,Key Laboratory of Yangtze River Water Environment,College of Environmental Science and Engineering,Tongji University,Shanghai 200092,China. 2010Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,5:13
14Insight-HXMT observations of the first binary neutron star merger GW170817显示文摘Finding the electromagnetic(EM) counterpart of binary compact star merger, especially the binary neutron star(BNS) merger,is critically important for gravitational wave(GW) astronomy, cosmology and fundamental physics. On Aug. 17, 2017,Advanced LIGO and Fermi/GBM independently triggered the first BNS merger, GW170817, and its high energy EM counterpart,GRB 170817 A, respectively, resulting in a global observation campaign covering gamma-ray, X-ray, UV, optical, IR, radio as well as neutrinos. The High Energy X-ray telescope(HE) onboard Insight-HXMT(Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope) is the unique high-energy gamma-ray telescope that monitored the entire GW localization area and especially the optical counterpart(SSS17 a/AT2017 gfo) with very large collection area(~1000 cm^2) and microsecond time resolution in 0.2-5 MeV. In addition,Insight-HXMT quickly implemented a Target of Opportunity(ToO) observation to scan the GW localization area for potential X-ray emission from the GW source. Although Insight-HXMT did not detect any significant high energy(0.2-5 MeV) radiation from GW170817, its observation helped to confirm the unexpected weak and soft nature of GRB 170817 A. Meanwhile,Insight-HXMT/HE provides one of the most stringent constraints(~10^(-7) to 10^(-6) erg/cm^2/s) for both GRB170817 A and any other possible precursor or extended emissions in 0.2-5 MeV, which help us to better understand the properties of EM radiation from this BNS merger. 15Thermal stabilization of chromium slag by sewage sludge: Effects of sludge quantity and temperature显示文摘To investigate the feasibility of detoxifying chromium slag by sewage sludge,synthetic chromium slag containing 3% of Cr(VI) was mixed with sewage sludge followed by thermal treatment in nitrogen gas for stabilizing chromium.The effects of slag to sludge ratio(0.5,1 and 2) and temperature(200,300,500,700 and 900°C) on treatment efficiency were investigated.During the mixing process before thermal treatment,59.8%-99.7% of Cr(VI) was reduced,but Cr could be easily leached from the reduction product.Increasing heating temperature and decreasing slag to sludge ratio strengthened the reduction and stabilization of Cr(VI).When the slag to sludge ratio was 0.5 and thermal treatment temperature was 300°C,the total leached Cr and Cr(VI) declined to 0.55 mg/L and 0.17 mg/L respectively,and 45.5% of Cr in the thermally treated residue existed as residual fraction.A two-stage mechanism was proposed for the reduction and stabilization of Cr.Changlin Wu,Hua Zhang,Pinjing He,Liming Shao State Key Laboratory of Pollution Control and Resources Reuse,Key Laboratory of Yangtze River Water Environment,College of Environmental Science & Engineering,Tongji University,Shanghai 200092,China. 2010Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,7:11
16The enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission—eXTP显示文摘In this paper we present the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission—eXTP. eXTP is a space science mission designed to study fundamental physics under extreme conditions of density, gravity and magnetism. The mission aims at determining the equation of state of matter at supra-nuclear density, measuring effects of QED, and understanding the dynamics of matter in strong-field gravity. In addition to investigating fundamental physics, eXTP will be a very powerful observatory for astrophysics that will provide observations of unprecedented quality on a variety of galactic and extragalactic objects. 17Metal distribution characteristic of MSWI bottom ash in view of metal recovery显示文摘Bottom ash is the major by-product of municipal solid waste incineration(MSWI), and is often reused as an engineering material, such as road-base aggregate. However, some metals(especially aluminum) in bottom ash can react with water and generate gas that could cause expansion and failure of products containing the ash; these metals must be removed before the ash is utilized. The size distribution and the chemical speciation of metals in the bottom ash from two Chinese MSWI plants were examined in this study, and the recovery potential of metals from the ash was evaluated. The metal concentrations in these bottom ashes were lower than that generated in other developed countries. Specifically, the contents of Al,Fe, Cu and Zn were 18.9–29.2, 25.5–32.3, 0.7–1.0 and 1.6–2.5 g/kg, respectively. Moreover,44.9–57.0 wt.% of Al and 55.6–75.4 wt.% of Fe were distributed in bottom ash particles smaller than 5 mm. Similarly, 46.6–79.7 wt.% of Cu and 42.9–74.2 wt.% of Zn were concentrated in particles smaller than 3 mm. 18Study on the morphology, crystalline structure and thermal properties of yam starch acetates with different degrees of substitution显示文摘This study was carried out to understand and establish the changes in physicochemical properties of starch extracted from Chinese yam (Dioscorea opposita Thunb.) after acetylation. Yam starch acetates with different degrees of substitution (DS) were prepared by the reaction of yam starch with glacial acetic acid/acetic anhydride using sulfuric acid as the catalyst. Their formation was confirmed by the presence of the carbonyl signal around 1750 cm-1 in the Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra. The thermal behavior of the native starch and starch acetate were investigated using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results reveal that the starch acetates are more thermally stable than the native starch. The starch esters showed 50% weight loss at tem- peratures from 328℃ to 372 ℃ , while the native starch underwent 50% weight loss at 325℃ . The glass transition temperature (Tg) of the starch decreased from 273℃ to 226℃. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns could be classified as typical of the C-type for yam starch. X-ray diffraction also showed the loss of the ordered C-type starch crystalline structure and the degree of crystallinity of starch de- creased from 36.10% to 10.96% with the increasing DS.
