1An virtual numerical experiment to understand the impacts of recovering natural vegetation on the summer climate and environmental conditions in East Asia显示文摘By applying a regional integrated environmental model system (RIEMS), a virtual numerical experiment is implemented to study the impacts of recovering natural vegetation on the regional climate and environmental conditions. The results show that recovering the natural vegetation in large scale could have significant influence on summer climate in East Asia. Not only would it be able to change the surface climate, but also to modify to certain extent the intensity of monsoon circulation. Although this is a virtual experiment at an extremely ideal condition, the implication of the simulating results is that the on-going nation-wide activities to recover the crop land for forest and pasture must be managed according to the local natural climate, hydrological and soil conditions. 2A pH-sensitive supramolecular nanosystem with chlorin e6 and triptolide co-delivery for chemo-photodynamic combination therapy显示文摘The combination of Ce6,an acknowledged photosensitizer,and TPL,a natural anticancer agent,has been demonstrated as a useful strategy to reinforce the tumor growth suppression,as well as decrease the systemic side effects compared with their monotherapy.However,in view of the optimal chemo-photodynamic combination efficiency,there is still short of the feasible nanovehicle to steadily co-deliver Ce6 and TPL,and stimuli-responsively burst release drugs in tumor site.Herein,we described the synergistic antitumor performance of a pH-sensitive supramolecular nanosystem,mediated by the host–guest complexing betweenβ-CD and acid pH-responsive amphiphilic co-polymer mPEG-PBAE-mPEG,showing the shell–core structural micelles with the tightβ-CD layer coating.Both Ce6 and TPLwere facilely co-loaded into the spherical supramolecular NPs(TPL+Ce6/NPs)by one-step nanoprecipitation method,with an ideal particle size(156.0 nm),acid pH-responsive drug release profile,and enhanced cellular internalization capacity.In view of the combination benefit of photodynamic therapy and chemotherapy,as well as co-encapsulation in the fabricated pH-sensitive supramolecular NPs,TPL+Ce6/NPs exhibited significant efficacy to suppress cellular proliferation,boost ROS level,lower MMP,and promote cellular apoptosis in vitro.Particularly,fluorescence imaging revealed that TPL+Ce6/NPs preferentially accumulated in the tumor tissue area,with higher intensity than that of free Ce6.As expected,upon 650-nm laser irradiation,TPL+Ce6/NPs exhibited a cascade of amplified synergistic chemo-photodynamic therapeutic benefits to suppress tumor progression in both hepatoma H22 tumor-bearingmice and B16 tumor-bearingmice.More importantly,lower systemic toxicitywas found in the tumor-bearingmice treated with TPL+Ce6/NPs.Overall,the designed supramolecular TPL+Ce6/NPs provided a promising alternative approach for chemo-photodynamic therapy in tumor treatment.Yihan Wu Jingjing Li Xuemei Zhong Jinfeng Shi Yanfen Cheng Chenglin He Jiaxin Li Liang Zou Chaomei Fu Meiwan Chen Jinming Zhang Huile Gao 2022Asian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences2022,17,2:4

4A detachable coating of cholesterol-anchored PEG improves tumor targeting of cell-penetrating peptide-modified liposomes显示文摘Cell-penetrating peptides(CPPs)have been widely used to enhance the membrane transloca-tion of various carriers for many years,but the non-specificity of CPPs seriously limits their utility in vivo.In this study,cholesterol-anchored,reduction-sensitive PEG(first synthesized by our laboratory)was applied to develop a co-modified liposome with improved tumor targeting.Following optimization of the formulation,the in vitro and in vivo properties of the co-modified liposome were evaluated.The co-modified liposome had a much lower cellular uptake and tumor spheroid uptake,but a much higher tumor accumulation compared to CPP-modified liposome,indicating the non-specific penetration of CPPs could be attenuated by the outer PEG coating.With the addition of exogenous reducing agent,both the in vitro and in vivo cellular uptake was markedly increased,demonstrating that the reduction-sensitive PEG coating achieved a controllable detachment from the surface of liposomes and did not affect the penetrating abilities of CPPs.The present results demonstrate that the combination of cholestervsitive PEG and CPPs is an ideal alternative for the application of CPP-modified carriers in vivo.Jie Tang Li Zhang Han Fu Qifang Kuang Huile Gao Zhirong Zhang Qin Hen 2014Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2014,4,1:3

6LIM domain proteins Pinch1/2 regulate chondrogenesis and bone mass in mice显示文摘The LIM domain-containing proteins Pinch1/2 regulate integrin activation and cell–extracellular matrix interaction and adhesion.Here,we report that deleting Pinch1 in limb mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)and Pinch2 globally(double knockout;dKO)in mice causes severe chondrodysplasia,while single mutant mice do not display marked defects.Pinch deletion decreases chondrocyte proliferation,accelerates cell differentiation and disrupts column formation.Pinch loss drastically reduces Smad2/3 protein expression in proliferative zone(PZ)chondrocytes and increases Runx2 and Col10a1 expression in both PZ and hypertrophic zone(HZ)chondrocytes.Pinch loss increases sclerostin and Rankl expression in HZ chondrocytes,reduces bone formation,and increases bone resorption,leading to low bone mass.In vitro studies revealed that Pinch1 and Smad2/3 colocalize in the nuclei of chondrocytes.Through its C-terminal region,Pinch1 interacts with Smad2/3 proteins.Pinch loss increases Smad2/3 ubiquitination and degradation in primary bone marrow stromal cells(BMSCs).Pinch loss reduces TGF-β-induced Smad2/3 phosphorylation and nuclear localization in primary BMSCs.Interestingly,compared to those from single mutant mice,BMSCs from dKO mice express dramatically lower protein levels ofβ-catenin and Yap1/Taz and display reduced osteogenic but increased adipogenic differentiation capacity.Finally,ablating Pinch1 in chondrocytes and Pinch2 globally causes severe osteopenia with subtle limb shortening.Collectively,our findings demonstrate critical roles for Pinch1/2 and a functional redundancy of both factors in the control of chondrogenesis and bone mass through distinct mechanisms.Yiming Lei Xuekun Fu Pengyu Li Sixiong Lin Qinnan Yan Yumei Lai Xin Liu Yishu Wang Xiaochun Bai Chuanju Liu Di Chen Xuenong Zou Xu Cao Huiling Cao Guozhi Xiao 2020Bone Research2020,8,4:2

9Calcium-dependent protein kinases CPK21 and CPK23 phosphorylate and activate the iron-regulated transporter IRT1 to regulate iron deficiency in Arabidopsis显示文摘Iron(Fe)is an essential micronutrient for all organisms.Fe availability in the soil is usually much lower than that required for plant growth,and Fe deficiencies seriously restrict crop growth and yield.Calcium(Ca2+)is a second messenger in all eukaryotes;however,it remains largely unknown how Ca2+regulates Fe deficiency.In this study,mutations in CPK21 and CPK23,which are two highly homologous calcium-dependent protein kinases,conferredimpaired growth and rootdevelopment under Fe-deficient conditions,whereas constitutively active CPK21 and CPK23 enhanced plant tolerance to Fe-deficient conditions.Furthermore,we found that CPK21 and CPK23 interacted with and phosphorylated the Fe transporter IRONREGULATED TRANSPORTER1(IRT1)at the Ser149 residue.Biochemical analyses and complementation of Fe transport in yeast and plants indicated that IRT1 Ser149 is critical for IRT1 transport activity.Taken together,these findings suggest that the CPK21/23-IRT1 signaling pathway is critical for Fe homeostasis in plants and provides targets for improving Fe-deficient environments and breeding crops resistant to Fe-deficient conditions.Zhangqing Wang Yanting Zhang Yisong Liu Dali Fu Zhang You Panpan Huang Huiling Gao Zhenqian Zhang Cun Wang 2023Science China(Life Sciences)2023,66,11:1

12Comprehensive Assessment of the Safety of Eucommia ulmoides Leaf Extract for Consumption as a Traditional Chinese Health Food显示文摘To ensure the export quality of Eucommia ulmoides leaf extract(ELE)and facilitate E.ulmoides leaf inclusion in the directory of traditional Chinese health foods,an overall safety assessment of ELE was performed,including genotoxicity and long-term toxicity,according to the national food safety standards of China.No variations in the reverse mutation number of the nominal bacterial strains were observed under ELE treatment in comparison with the solvent control.Additionally,the micronucleus rates of in vivo mammalian erythrocytes and in vitro mammalian cells under ELE treatment were equivalent to or significantly lower than those of the solvent control.The fold change in the trifluorothymidine resistance mutation frequency of the thymidine kinase gene under ELE treatment was less than three times in comparison with the solvent control,suggesting that ELE did not cause genotoxicity.Moreover,animal experiments showed that the growth performance of rats under ELE treatment was enhanced because the body weights of rats increased.No oxidative injury or inflammatory responses were induced and no histopathological lesions of tissues were detected under ELE treatment.In addition,plasma triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels significantly decreased,and plasma high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels significantly increased with ELE treatment,suggesting that ELE was health-promoting.Furthermore,moderate to excellent antimicrobial activities,a favorable anticancer capacity,and superior antioxidant abilities of ELE were found,implying ELE possesses good bioactivities.Therefore,we affirmed ELE is safe to consume as a traditional Chinese health food.Huiling Fu Mijun Peng Qiuwen Tang Haojun Liang Yanli Liang Jiali Fang Xuesong Wang 2023Journal of Renewable Materials2023,11,7:0
13Cloud Microphysical Processes and Atmospheric Water Budget during the 20 July 2021 Extreme Precipitation Event in Zhengzhou,China显示文摘This study investigated the cloud microphysical processes and atmospheric water budget during the extreme precipitation event on 20 July 2021 in Zhengzhou of Henan Province,China,based on observations,reanalysis data,and the results from the high-resolution large-eddy simulation nested in the Weather Research and Forecasting(WRF)model with assimilation of satellite and radar observations.The results show that the abundant and persistent southeasterly supply of water vapor,induced by Typhoons In-Fa and Cempaka,under a particular synoptic pattern featured with abnormal northwestward displacement of the western Pacific subtropical high,was conducive to warm rain processes through a high vapor condensation rate of cloud water and an efficient collision–coalescence process of cloud water to rainwater.Such conditions were favorable for the formation and maintenance of the quasi-stationary warmsector heavy rainfall.Precipitation formation through the collision–coalescence process of cloud water to rainwater accounted for approximately 70%of the total,while the melting of snow and graupel accounted for only approximately 30%,indicating that warm cloud processes played a dominant role in this extreme rainfall event.However,enhancement of cold cloud processes promoted by latent heat release also exerted positive effect on rainfall during the period of most intense hourly rainfall.It was also found that rainwater advection from outside of Zhengzhou City played an important role in maintaining the extreme precipitation event.Weixi SHU Danhong FU Hui XIAO Huiling YANG Yue SUN Xueliang GUO Yang ZHAO Jianfang DING Shujing SHEN 2023Journal of Meteorological Research2023,37,5:0

15Prevalence and risk factors for minimal hepatic encephalopathy in cirrhotic patients with different etiologies显示文摘Aims:Minimal hepatic encephalopathy(MHE)significantly affects the prognosis of patients with cirrhosis.This study was performed to determine whether there is a difference in the prevalence of MHE among patients with cirrhosis of different etiologies and whether the etiology directly influences the occurrence of MHE.Methods:This multicenter,cross-sectional study enrolled 1879 patients with confirmed cirrhosis at 40 hospitals from October 25,2021,to January 10,2023(Trial registration:http://gffzzd3f38a9638994581swnpf005v6pon6cxk.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/[NCT05140837]).The patients'demographics,etiologies of cirrhosis,and laboratory test results were collected.The psychometric hepatic encephalopathy score(PHES)was determined in all patients to screen for MHE.Multivariate logistic analyses were performed to identify the risk factors for MHE.Results:In total,736 patients with cirrhosis were analyzed.The prevalence of MHE was 42.0%(n=309).The primary etiology among all patients was hepatitis B virus(HBV)-related cirrhosis(71.9%[529/736]).The prevalence of MHE was significantly higher in patients with alcoholic cirrhosis(57.1%[40/70])than in those with HBV-related cirrhosis(40.6%[215/529],p=0.009)or hepatitis C virus(HCV)-related cirrhosis(38.2%[26/68],p=0.026).Age(odds ratio[OR],1.042;95%confidence interval[CI],1.024-1.059;p<0.001),duration of education(OR,0.935;95%CI,0.899-0.971;p=0.001),etiology(OR,1.740;95%CI,1.028-2.945;p=0.039),and high MELD-Na scores(OR,1.038;95%CI,1.009-1.067;p=0.009)were independent risk factors for MHE.When patients with cirrhosis of different etiologies were analyzed separately,the results showed that age(OR,1.035;95%CI,1.014-1.057;p=0.001)and duration of education(OR,0.924;95%CI,0.883-0.966;p=0.001)were risk factors for MHE among patients with HBV-related cirrhosis,whereas age(OR,1.138;95%CI,1.033-1.254;p=0.009)and creatinine concentration(OR,16.487;95%CI,1.113-244.160;p=0.042)were risk factors for MHE in patients with HCV-related cirrhosis.No risk factors for MHE were found in patients with autoimmune cirrhosis.For patients with alcoholic cirrhosis,the platelet count(OR,1.014;95%CI,1.000-1.027;p=0.045)was a risk factor for MHE.The PHES subtest results were inconsistent among patients who had MHE with cirrhosis of different etiologies.Patients with HBV-related cirrhosis performed better on Number Connection Test B and the serial dotting test than those with alcoholic cirrhosis(p=0.007 and p<0.001),better on Number Connection Test B than those with HCV-related cirrhosis(p=0.020),and better on the line tracing test than those with autoimmune cirrhosis(p=0.037).Conclusion:The etiology of cirrhosis affected the prevalence of MHE and risk factors for MHE.The domains of major cognitive impairment varied among patients with cirrhosis of different etiologies.Further studies are required to verify these findings.Xiaoyan Li Shanghao Liu Huiling Xiang Qingge Zhang Ying Guo Hongmei Zu Jing Wang Jiaojian Lv Xiaoning Zhang Fanping Meng Jiahuan Li Jie Li Yangzhen Bianba Jia Shang Guo Zhang Fei Liu Zhaowei Tong Chuang Lei Wei Ye Qiaohua Yang Ningning Wang Ying Song Wei Fu Ziyue Li Yanjing Gao Yongping Zhang Jiafang Chen Caiyun Wu Qi Zheng Fang Wang Jiali Yu Lianjie Lin Chuanlong Yang Xiaoting Yang Xiaomin Ye Xiangmei Wang Xuelan Zhao Xiaolong Qi Fusheng Wang Junliang Fu 2023Portal Hypertension & Cirrhosis2023,2,4:0
