| 1 | Novel metabolic and physiological functions of branched chain amino acids: a review显示文摘It is widely known that branched chain amino acids(BCAA) are not only elementary components for building muscle tissue but also participate in increasing protein synthesis in animals and humans. BCAA(isoleucine, leucine and valine) regulate many key signaling pathways, the most classic of which is the activation of the m TOR signaling pathway. This signaling pathway connects many diverse physiological and metabolic roles. Recent years have witnessed many striking developments in determining the novel functions of BCAA including:(1) Insufficient or excessive levels of BCAA in the diet enhances lipolysis.(2) BCAA, especially isoleucine, play a major role in enhancing glucose consumption and utilization by up-regulating intestinal and muscular glucose transporters.(3)Supplementation of leucine in the diet enhances meat quality in finishing pigs.(4) BCAA are beneficial for mammary health, milk quality and embryo growth.(5) BCAA enhance intestinal development, intestinal amino acid transportation and mucin production.(6) BCAA participate in up-regulating innate and adaptive immune responses.In addition, abnormally elevated BCAA levels in the blood(decreased BCAA catabolism) are a good biomarker for the early detection of obesity, diabetes and other metabolic diseases. | 2 | Atomically dispersed Au_1 catalyst towards efficient electrochemical synthesis of ammonia显示文摘Tremendous efforts have been devoted to explore energy-efficient strategies of ammonia synthesis to replace Haber–Bosch process which accounts for 1.4% of the annual energy consumption. In this study,atomically dispersed Au_1 catalyst is synthesized and applied in electrochemical synthesis of ammonia under ambient conditions. A high NH_4^+ Faradaic efficiency of 11.1% achieved by our Au_1 catalyst surpasses most of reported catalysts under comparable conditions. Benefiting from efficient atom utilization, an NH_4^+ yield rate of 1,305 lg h^(-1) mg_(Au)^(-1) has been reached, which is roughly 22.5 times as high as that by supported Au nanoparticles. We also demonstrate that by employing our Au_1 catalyst, NH4+can be electrochemically produced directly from N_2 and H_2 with an energy utilization rate of 4.02 mmol kJ^(-1). | 4 | Phase 1 clinical trial demonstrated that MUC1 positive metastatic seminal vesicle cancer can be effectively eradicated by modified Anti-MUC1 chimeric antigen receptor transduced T cells显示文摘Recent progress in chimeric antigen receptor-modified T-cell(CAR-T cell) technology in cancer therapy is extremely promising, especially in the treatment of patients with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. In contrast, due to the hostile immunosuppressive microenvironment of a solid tumor, CAR T-cell accessibility and survival continue to pose a considerable challenge, which leads to their limited therapeutic efficacy. In this study, we constructed two anti-MUC1 CAR-T cell lines. One set of CAR-T cells contained SM3 single chain variable fragment(sc Fv) sequence specifically targeting the MUC1 antigen and co-expressing interleukin(IL) 12(named SM3-CAR). The other CAR-T cell line carried the SM3 sc Fv sequence modified to improve its binding to MUC1 antigen(named p SM3-CAR) but did not co-express IL-12. When those two types of CAR-T cells were injected intratumorally into two independent metastatic lesions of the same MUC1+ seminal vesicle cancer patient as part of an interventional treatment strategy, the initial results indicated no side-effects of the MUC1 targeting CAR-T cell approach, and patient serum cytokines responses were positive. | 5 | The third-party regulation on food safety in China:A review显示文摘Stakeholders in the field of food safety management in China can be classified into three categories,government,food producers(farmers and enterprises),and the third-party regulatory bodies. The third-party regulation has experienced rapid development in past twenty years,and recently received considerable attention from consumers and the central government. This paper provides a review about the development,problems and future trend of the third-party regulation on food safety in China. To be specific,five forms of the third-party regulation are assessed,including media exposure,the third-party certification,regulation by consumer associations,social movements promoted by non-governmental organizations(NGOs),and regulation by industry associations. The study concludes that media and consumer associations are the major players in the third-party regulation and are highly repudiated among customers. The food certification industry has developed rapidly,but is now facing crises of confidence among consumers because of its lack of self-regulation. | 6 | Evolution of dielectric loss-dominated electromagnetic patterns in magnetic absorbers for enhanced microwave absorption performances显示文摘As the growing criterion of electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption materials, micro/nano-scale magnetic materials are drawing more and more attention for their unique features compared to bulky absorbers. Generally, the complex permeability of micro/nano-scale magnetic absorbers varies in a relatively narrow range, whatever for the storage of magnetic energy or the dissipation of magnetic energy. If so, how the small variation of permeability affects the ultimate performances is still unclear. Here, a strategy of electromagnetic parameters regulation for the magnetic materials is applied to understand the loss contribution in micro/nanoscale magnetic absorbers. After analyzing the evolution of electromagnetic maps of ten ferrosoferric oxide samples, it can be found that the dissipation contribution of permeability for magnetic materials is weaker than that of permittivity, in spite of its significant role in determining the impedance matching characteristics. | 7 | In Situ Exfoliation and Pt Deposition of Antimonene for Formic Acid Oxidation via a Predominant Dehydrogenation Pathway显示文摘Direct formic acid fuel cell(DFAFC)has been considered as a promising energy conversion device for stationary and mobile applications.Advanced platinum(Pt)electrocatalysts for formic acid oxidation reaction(FAOR)are critical for DFAFC.However,the oxidation of formic acid on Pt catalysts often occurs via a dual pathway mechanism,which hinders the catalytic activity owing to the CO poisoning.Herein,we directly exfoliate bulk antimony to 2D antimonene(Sb)and in situ load Pt nanoparticles onto antimonene sheets with the assistance of ethylenediamine.According to the Bader charge analysis,the charge transfer from antimonene to Pt occurs,confirming the electronic interaction between Pt and Sb.Interestingly,antimonene,as a cocatalyst,alters the oxidation pathway for FAOR over Pt catalyst and makes FAOR follow the more efficient dehydrogenation pathway.The density functional theory(DFT)calculation demonstrates that antimonene can activate Pt to be a lower oxidative state and facilitate the oxidation of HCOOH into CO_(2) via a direct pathway,resulting in a weakened intermediate binding strength and better CO tolerance for FAOR.The specific activity of FAOR on Pt/Sb is 4.5 times,and the mass activity is 2.6 times higher than the conventional Pt/C. | Yiqiong Zhang Man Qiao Yucheng Huang Yuqin Zou Zhijuan Liu Li Tao Yafei Li Chung-Li Dong Shuangyin Wang | 2020 | Research2020,,1: | 3 |
| 8 | Polyoxometalate-based high-nuclear cobalt-vanadium-oxo cluster as efficient catalyst for visible light-driven CO2 reduction显示文摘A high-nuclear Co-V-O cluster was firstly isolated by lacunary polyoxoanion, resulting in the high-nuclear mixed metal-oxo cluster-containing polyoxometalate (POM), K4Na28[{Co4(O-H)3(VO4)}4(SiW9O34)4]· 66H2O (1). In 1, the{Co4(O-H)3(VO4)}4{Co16-V4}core, composed of a{Co4O4}cubane, four{Co4(OH)3}qusi-cubanes and four VO4 units, was stabilized by four lacunary A-α-{SiW9O34} units. Photocatalytic study reveals that 1 exhibits excellent photocatalytic activity for CO2-to-CO conversion with high selectivity under visible light irradiation. The turnover number (TON) and turnover frequency (TOF) reaches as high as 10492 and 0.29 s^-1, respectively. Compound 1 represents the first high nuclear TM cluster-containing POM (TM=transition-metal) with efficient visible light catalytic activity for CO2 reduction, and its photocatalytic activity is much higher than those of most reported molecular catalysts. | 9 | GM130 regulates pulmonary surfactant protein secretion in alveolar typeⅡcells显示文摘Pulmonary surfactant is a lipid-protein complex secreted by alveolar typeⅡepithelial cells and is essential for the maintenance of the delicate structure of mammalian alveoli to promote efficient gas exchange across the air-liquid barrier.The Golgi apparatus plays an important role in pulmonary surfactant modification and secretory trafficking.However,the physiological function of the Golgi apparatus in the transport of pulmonary surfactants is unclear.In the present study,deletion of GM130,which encodes for a matrix protein of the cis-Golgi cisternae,was shown to induce the disruption of the Golgi structure leading to impaired secretion of lung surfactant proteins and lipids.Specifically,the results of in vitro and in vivo analysis indicated that the loss of GM130 resulted in trapping of Sftpa in the endoplasmic reticulum,Sftpb and Sftpc accumulation in the Golgi apparatus,and an increase in the compensatory secretion of Sftpd.Moreover,global and epithelial-specific GM130 knockout in mice resulted in an enlargement of alveolar airspace and an increase in alveolar epithelial autophagy;however,surfactant repletion partially rescued the enlarged airspace defects in GM130-deficient mice.Therefore,our results demonstrate that GM130 and the mammalian Golgi apparatus play a critical role in the control of surfactant protein secretion in pulmonary epithelial cells. | Qianqian Pang Chunyi Liu Yulong Qiao Jian Zhao Sin Man Lam Mei Mei Guanghou Shui Shilai Bao Qiuling Li | 2022 | Science China(Life Sciences)2022,65,1: | 2 |

| 11 | A case of human infection with a novel Babesia species in China显示文摘Background:Babesiosis is an uncommon but emerging tick-borne disease caused by the genus Babesia.In this case study,we report a case of human infection with a novel Babesia sp.in China.Findings:The patient in question had been suffering from repetitive occurrences of mild fever of unknown origin and fatigue for 10 years.Ring forms,tetrads,and one or two dots of chromatin or trophozoite-like organisms were observed in the patient’s thin blood smears and bone marrow smears.Using a confocal laser-scanning microscope,it was observed that the patient’s serum had reactivity with the surface proteins of the B.microti strain.Electron microscopy revealed oval red blood cells with 1~2μm of knob protrusions in the cellular membrane.The results of the Babesia-specific nested PCR assay for 18S rRNA confirmed the presence of Babesia infection.The construction of a phylogenetic relationship showed clustering with B.microti and B.duncani,which was identified as a novel Babesia species and named as Babesia sp.XXB/HangZhou.Azithromycin,doxycycline,and moxifloxacin hydrochloride were shown to relieve symptoms but were not as effective after continuous usage.After atovaquone(Mepron®)administration,the patient recovered from fever and tested negative for detection of Babesia-specific genes.Conclusion:Babesia sp.XXB/HangZhou is a novel Babesia species,which causes mild babesiosis in an immunocompetent patient. | Su-Qin Man Ke Qiao Jie Cui Meng Feng Yong-Feng Fu Xun-Jia Cheng | 2016 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2016,5,1: | 1 |
