| 1 | 2018 Chinese Pediatric Cardiology Society(CPCS) guideline for diagnosis and treatment of syncope in children and adolescents显示文摘Syncope belongs to the transient loss of consciousness(TLOC), characterized by a rapid onset, short duration, and spontaneous complete recovery. It is common in children and adolescents, accounting for 1% to 2% of emergency department visits.Recurrent syncope can seriously affect children's physical and mental health, learning ability and quality of life and sometimes cardiac syncope even poses a risk of sudden death. The present guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of syncope in children and adolescents was developed for guiding a better clinical management of pediatric syncope. Based on the globally recent development and the evidence-based data in China, 2018 Chinese Pediatric Cardiology Society(CPCS) guideline for diagnosis and treatment of syncope in children and adolescents was jointly prepared by the Pediatric Cardiology Society, Chinese Pediatric Society, Chinese Medical Association(CMA)/Committee on Pediatric Syncope, Pediatricians Branch, Chinese Medical Doctor Association(CMDA)/Committee on Pediatric Cardiology, Chinese College of Cardiovascular Physicians, Chinese Medical Doctor Association(CMDA)/Pediatric Cardiology Society, Beijing Pediatric Society, Beijing Medical Association(BMA). | 2 | When water meets iron at Earth's core-mantle boundary显示文摘Hydrous minerals in subducted crust can transport large amounts of water into Earth's deep mantle. Our laboratory experiments revealed the surprising pressure-induced chemistry that, when water meets iron at the core-mantle boundary, they react to form an interlayer with an extremely oxygen-rich form of iron, iron dioxide, together with iron hydride. Hydrogen in the layer will escape upon further heating and rise to the crust, sustaining the water cycle. With water supplied by the subducting slabs meeting the nearly inexhaustible iron source in the core, an oxygen-rich layer would cumulate and thicken, leading to major global consequences in our planet. The seismic signature of the D″ layer may echo the chemical complexity of this layer. Over the course of geological time, the enormous oxygen reservoir accumulating between the mantle and core may have eventually reached a critical eruption point. | 4 | Effectiveness of predicting tunneling-induced ground settlements using machine learning methods with small datasets显示文摘Prediction of tunneling-induced ground settlements is an essential task,particularly for tunneling in urban settings.Ground settlements should be limited within a tolerable threshold to avoid damages to aboveground structures.Machine learning(ML)methods are becoming popular in many fields,including tunneling and underground excavations,as a powerful learning and predicting technique.However,the available datasets collected from a tunneling project are usually small from the perspective of applying ML methods.Can ML algorithms effectively predict tunneling-induced ground settlements when the available datasets are small?In this study,seven ML methods are utilized to predict tunneling-induced ground settlement using 14 contributing factors measured before or during tunnel excavation.These methods include multiple linear regression(MLR),decision tree(DT),random forest(RF),gradient boosting(GB),support vector regression(SVR),back-propagation neural network(BPNN),and permutation importancebased BPNN(PI-BPNN)models.All methods except BPNN and PI-BPNN are shallow-structure ML methods.The effectiveness of these seven ML approaches on small datasets is evaluated using model accuracy and stability.The model accuracy is measured by the coefficient of determination(R2)of training and testing datasets,and the stability of a learning algorithm indicates robust predictive performance.Also,the quantile error(QE)criterion is introduced to assess model predictive performance considering underpredictions and overpredictions.Our study reveals that the RF algorithm outperforms all the other models with the highest model prediction accuracy(0.9)and stability(3.0210^(-27)).Deep-structure ML models do not perform well for small datasets with relatively low model accuracy(0.59)and stability(5.76).The PI-BPNN architecture is proposed and designed for small datasets,showing better performance than typical BPNN.Six important contributing factors of ground settlements are identified,including tunnel depth,the distance between tunnel face and surface monitoring points(DTM),weighted average soil compressibility modulus(ACM),grouting pressure,penetrating rate and thrust force. | Linan Liu Wendy Zhou Marte Gutierrez | 2022 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2022,14,4: | 5 |

| 11 | Evidence for oxygenation of Fe-Mg oxides at mid-mantle conditions and the rise of deep oxygen显示文摘As the reaction product of subducted water and the iron core,FeO2 with more oxygen than hematite(Fe_(2)O_(3))has been recently recognized as an important component in the D'layer just above the Earth’s core-mantle boundary.Here,we report a new oxygen-excess phase(Mg,Fe)_(2)O_(3)+δ(0<δ<1,denoted as‘OE-phase’).It forms at pressures greater than 40 gigapascal when(Mg,Fe)-bearing hydrous materials are heated over 1500 kelvin.The OE-phase is fully recoverable to ambient conditions for ex situ investigation using transmission electron microscopy,which indicates that the OE-phase contains ferric iron(Fe^(3+))as in Fe_(2)O_(3) but holds excess oxygen through interactions between oxygen atoms.The new OE-phase provides strong evidence that H_(2)O has extraordinary oxidation power at high pressure.Unlike the formation of pyrite-type FeO_(2)H_(x) which usually requires saturated water,the OE-phase can be formed with under-saturated water at mid-mantle conditions,and is expected to be more ubiquitous at depths greater than 1000 km in the Earth’s mantle.The emergence of oxygen-excess reservoirs out of primordial or subducted(Mg,Fe)-bearing hydrous materials may revise our view on the deep-mantle redox chemistry. | Jin Liu Chenxu Wang Chaojia Lv Xiaowan Su Yijin Liu Ruilian Tang Jiuhua Chen Qingyang Hu Ho-Kwang Mao Wendy L.Mao | 2021 | National Science Review2021,8,4: | 2 |
