1Transrectal ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging measurement of extramural tumor spread in rectal cancer显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the agreement between transrectal ultrasound(TRUS) and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) in classification of ≥ T3 rectal tumors.METHODS:From January 2010 to January 2012,86 consecutive patients with ≥ T3 tumors were included in this study.The mean age of the patients was 66.4 years(range:26-91 years).The tumors were all ≥ T3 on TRUS.The sub-classification was defined by the penetration of the rectal wall:a:0 to 1 mm;b:1-5 mm;c:6-15;d:> 15 mm.Early tumors as ab(≤ 5 mm) and advanced tumors as cd(> 5 mm).All patients underwent TRUS using a 6.5 MHz transrectal transducer.The MRI was performed with a 1.5 T Philips unit.The TRUS findings were blinded to the radiologist performing the interpretation of the MRI images and measuring the depth of extramural tumor spread.RESULTS:TRUS found 51 patients to have an early ≥ T3 tumors and 35 to have an advanced tumor,whereas MRI categorized 48 as early ≥ T3 tumors and 38 as advanced tumors.No patients with tumors classified as advanced by TRUS were found to be early on MRI.The kappa value in classifying early versus advanced T3 rectal tumors was 0.93(95% CI:0.85-1.00).We found a kappa value of 0.74(95% CI:0.63-0.86) for the total sub-classification between the two methods.The mean maximal tumor outgrowth measured by TRUS,5.5 mm ± 5.63 mm and on MRI,6.3 mm ± 6.18 mm,P = 0.004.In 19 of the 86 patients the following CT scan or surgery revealed distant metastases;of the 51 patients in the ultrasound ab group three(5.9%) had metastases,whereas 16(45.7%) of 35 in the cd group harbored distant metastases,P = 0.00002.The odds ratio of having distant metastases in the ultrasound cd group compared to the ab group was 13.5(95% CI:3.5-51.6),P = 0.00002.The mean maximal ultrasound measured outgrowth was 4.3 mm(95% CI:3.2-5.5 mm) in patients without distant metastases,while the mean maximal outgrowth was 9.5 mm(95% CI:6.2-12.8 mm) in the patients with metastases,P = 0.00004.Using the MRI classification three(6.3%) of 48 in the MRI ab group had distant metastases,while 16(42.1%) of the 38 in the MRI cd group,P = 0.00004.The MRI odds ratio was 10.9(95% CI:2.9-41.4),P = 0.00008.The mean maximal MRI measured outgrowth was 4.9 mm(95% CI:3.7-6.1 mm) in patients without distant metastases,while the mean maximal outgrowth was 11.5 mm(95% CI:7.8-15.2 mm) in the patients with metastases,P = 0.000006.CONCLUSION:There is good agreement between TRUS and MRI in the pretreatment sub-classification of ≥ T3 tumors.Distant metastases are more frequent in the advanced group.Sφren R Rafaelsen Chris Vagn-Hansen Torben Sφrensen John Plφen Anders Jakobsen 2012World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,36:14

3Effects of yttrium and phosphorus on growth and physiological characteristics of Microcystis aeruginosa显示文摘Yttrium is a main kind of rare earth elements(REEs) with wide applications in modern industry and farming. Phosphorus, an essential element of algae, is used as the nutrients and also one of the main factors of eutrophication. To investigate the effects of yttrium and phosphorus on Microcystis aeruginosa(M. aeruginosa), the growth and physiological changes were studied by lab cultured experiments. In the experiment, exogenous yttrium was tested by a concentration gradient(0.0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 1.0 mg/L),meanwhile, phosphorus was tested by three concentrations(0.0, 0.02, 0.2 mg/L). The results show that the contents of chlorophyll a(chl-a) and soluble protein increase compared with the control and they have certain correlation with algal cells density. The growth status of algae is stimulated by initial yttrium concentration <0.3 and 0.2 mg/L phosphorus, while it is inhabited by 0.5 and 1.0 mg/L yttrium. Besides,the activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD) of algae increases with addition of yttrium dose(0-0.3 mg/L)when phosphorus dose is 0.2 mg/L. Furthermore, when yttrium dose is 0.5 and 1.0 mg/L, the vitality of SOD presents a sharp decline. 6Determining the level of extra-pair paternity in yellow-bellied prinias,a socially monogamous passerine显示文摘DEAR EDITOR,Previous work based on molecular evidence has shown that most socially monogamous birds follow a genetic polyandrous mating system.However,our knowledge about avian mating systems is heavily biased toward the north temperate zone,with data on tropical birds remaining relatively scarce.This uneven distribution of both phylogenetic and spatial sampling has hampered our understanding and interpretation of results.In this study,we investigated the frequency of extra-pair paternity(EPP)in a tropical population of yellow-bellied prinias(Prinia flaviventris)in Guangxi,southern China.A total of 129 individuals belonging to 24 nests were sampled,among which 12 out of 83 chicks(14.46%)in seven nests were found to be EPP offspring.In nests in which all nestlings were sampled,only five out of 56 chicks were EPP offspring,accounting for an unbiased EPP rate of 8.93%.This rate is below the average rate of EPP in the family Sylviidae.The possible causes of EPP in prinias and the occurrence of EPP in birds with high resource investment and intensive parental care are discussed.This study highlights the value of genome-wide markers in determining relatedness in a wild bird species without a reference genome.Zhi-Feng Ding Chun-Lan Zhang Wen-Sui Zhang Qian-Min Yuan Long-Wu Wang Gang Ren En Li Hui-Jian Hu Wei Liang 2021Zoological Research2021,42,1:1

10Indocyanine green-based nanodrugs: A portfolio strategy for precision medicine显示文摘As the sole cyanine dye approved by the Food and Drug Administration(FDA), indocyanine green(ICG) has been widely applied in solid tumor and metastases surgical navigation as well as malignant tissue destruction. The great performance of ICG benefits from excellent fluorescent properties in the near infrared region(NIR) and reactive oxygen species(ROS) or hyperthermia effects under irradiation. Nevertheless, some intrinsic limitations, such as unstable optical properties, concentration-dependent aggregation, proneness to photo-bleaching, and poor aqueous stability in vivo, severely restrict its further applications. To overcome these challenges, ICG-based nanodrugs(nanoICG), as one kind of portfolio strategy, could bridge the efficient cargo-carriers and ICG molecules to artificially improve their existing performance. In this mini-review, we will focus on the developed engineering strategies for nano-ICG formulation synthesis and their desired performance in tumor tracing and eradication. 13Feasibility and physics potential of detecting ^(8)B solar neutrinos at JUNO显示文摘The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory(JUNO)features a 20 kt multi-purpose underground liquid scintillator sphere as its main detector.Some of JUNO's features make it an excellent location for^8B solar neutrino measurements,such as its low-energy threshold,high energy resolution compared with water Cherenkov detectors,and much larger target mass compared with previous liquid scintillator detectors.In this paper,we present a comprehensive assessment of JUNO's potential for detecting^8B solar neutrinos via the neutrino-electron elastic scattering process.A reduced 2 MeV threshold for the recoil electron energy is found to be achievable,assuming that the intrinsic radioactive background^(238)U and^(232)Th in the liquid scintillator can be controlled to 10^(-17)g/g.With ten years of data acquisition,approximately 60,000 signal and 30,000 background events are expected.This large sample will enable an examination of the distortion of the recoil electron spectrum that is dominated by the neutrino flavor transformation in the dense solar matter,which will shed new light on the inconsistency between the measured electron spectra and the predictions of the standard three-flavor neutrino oscillation framework.IfDelta m^(2)_(21)=4.8times10^(-5);(7.5times10^(-5))eV^(2),JUNO can provide evidence of neutrino oscillation in the Earth at approximately the 3sigma(2sigma)level by measuring the non-zero signal rate variation with respect to the solar zenith angle.Moreover,JUNO can simultaneously measureDelta m^2_(21)using^8B solar neutrinos to a precision of 20% or better,depending on the central value,and to sub-percent precision using reactor antineutrinos.A comparison of these two measurements from the same detector will help understand the current mild inconsistency between the value of Delta m^2_(21)reported by solar neutrino experiments and the KamLAND
