| 2 | Marine Carbon-Sulfur Biogeochemical Cycles during the Steptoean Positive Carbon Isotope Excursion(SPICE) in the Jiangnan Basin, South China显示文摘Global occurrences of Steptoean Positive Carbon Isotope Excursion(SPICE) during Late Cambrian recorded a significant perturbation in marine carbon cycle, and might have had profound impacts on the biological evolution. In previous studies, SPICE has been reported from the Jiangnan slope belt in South China. To evaluate the bathymetric extent of SPICE, we investigate the limestone samples from the upper Qingxi Formation in the Shaijiang Section in the Jiangnan Basin. Our results show the positive excursions for both carbonate carbon(δ^(13)C) and organic carbon(δ^(13)C_(org)) isotopes, as well as the concurrent positive shifts in sulfur isotopes of carbonate associated sulfate(CAS, δ^(34)S_(CAS)) and pyrite(δ^(34)S_(pyrite)), unequivocally indicating the presence of SPICE in the Jiangnan Basin. A 4‰ increase in δ^(13)C_(carb) of the Qingxi limestone implies the increase of the relative flux of organic carbon burial by a factor of two. Concurrent positive excursions in δ^(34)S_(CAS) and δ^(34)S_(pyrite) have been attributed to the enhanced pyrite burial in oceans with extremely low concentration and spatially heterogeneous isotopic composition of seawater sulfate. Here, we propose that the seawater sulfur isotopic heterogeneity can be generated by volatile organic sulfur compound(VOSC, such as methanethiol and dimethyl sulfide) formation in sulfidic continental margins that were widespread during SPICE. Emission of 32S-enriched VOSC in atmosphere, followed by lateral transportation and aerobic oxidation in atmosphere, and precipitation in open oceans result in a net flux of ^(32)S from continental margins to open oceans, elevating δ^(34)S of seawater sulfate in continental margins. | 3 | Exposing Cu-rich {110} active facets in PtCu nanostars for boosting electrochemical performance toward multiple liquid fuels electrooxidation显示文摘In catalysis,tuning the structural composition of the metal alloy is known as an efficient way to optimize the catalytic activity.This work presents the synthesis of compositional segregated six-armed PtCu nanostars via a facile solvothermal method and their distinct composition-structure-dependent performances in electrooxidation processes.The alloy is shown to have a unique six arms with a Cu-rich dodecahedral core,mainly composed of {110} facets and exhibit superior catalytic activity toward alcohols electrooxidation compared to the hollow counterpart where Cu was selectively etched.Density functional theory (DFT) calculations suggest that the formation of hydroxyl intermediate (OH^*) is crucial to detoxify CO poisoning during the electrooxidation processes.The addition of Cu is found to effectively adjust the d band location of the alloy catalyst and thus enhance the formation of ^*OH intermediate from water splitting,which decreases the coverage of ^*CO intermediate.Our work demonstrates that the unique compositional anisotropy in alloy catalyst may boost their applications in electrocatalysis and provides a methodology for the design of this type catalyst. | Liping Huang Wei Zhang Peng Li Yongbo Song Hongting Sheng Yuanxin Du Yang-Gang Wang Yuen Wu Xun Hong Yanhuai Ding Xiaoyou Yuan Manzhou Zhu | 2019 | Nano Research2019,12,5: | 4 |
| 4 | Early Cretaceous Climate Changes Recorded in Magnetic Susceptibility and Color Index Variations of the Lower Liupanshan Group, Central China显示文摘This study carried out comprehensive analysis on sedimentology, magnetic susceptibility(χlf) and color data of the continental sediments of the Liupanshan Group in Central China so as to obtain climatic change information during the 129.14–122.98 Ma interval. Based on the results of the ?lf and of the redness(a*), the section can be divided into two segments:(1) 129.14–126.3 Ma, with the lowest ?lf values and strongly variable relatively high values of redness and(2) 126.3–122.98 Ma, with high ?lf values and relatively low redness. Analysis of the lithology and facies as well as the magnetic minerals and their contents points to a detrital origin of the magnetic minerals and this allow us to interpret the relationship between magnetic susceptibility variations and climate changes. | 5 | Sulfur and Oxygen Isotopes of Sulfate Extracted from Early Cambrian Phosphorite Nodules: Implications for Marine Redox Evolution in the Yangtze Platform显示文摘Phosphorite nodule beds are discovered in the black shale of basal Niutitang Formation throughout the Yangtze Platform in South China, recording an important phosphorite-generation event. Platform-wide phosphorite precipitation requires special oceanographic and geochemical conditions, thus the origin of the Niutitang phosphorite nodules may provide valuable information about the ocean chemistry in the Early Cambrian. In this study, we measured sulfur and oxygen isotopic compositions of sulfate extracted from phosphorite nodules collected from the basal Niutitang Formation. Phosphorite associated sulfate(PAS) is a trace amount of sulfate that incorporates into crystal lattice during phosphorite precipitation, accordingly PAS records the geochemical signals during phosphorite nodule formation. Sulfur isotopic composition of PAS(δ^(34)S_(PAS)) ranges from-1.16‰ to +24.48‰(mean=+8.19‰, n=11), and oxygen isotopic value(δ^(18)O_(PAS)) varies between-5.3‰ and +26.3‰(mean=+7.0‰, n=8). Most phosphorite nodules have low δ^(34)SPAS and low δ^(18)O_(PAS) values, suggesting PAS mainly derived from anaerobic oxidation of H_2S within suboxic sediment porewater. We propose that phosphate was delivered to the Yangtze Platform by a series of upwelling events, and was scavenged from seawater with the precipitation of FeOOH. The absorbed phosphate was released into suboxic porewater by the reduction of FeOOH at the oxic-suboxic redox boundary in sediments, and phosphorite nodule precipitated by the reaction of phosphate with Ca^(2+) diffused from the overlying seawater. The platform-wide deposition of phosphorite nodules in the basal Niutitang Formation implies the bottom water might be suboxic or even oxic, at least sporadically, in Early Cambrian. | 6 | Quantifying the carbon source of pedogenic calcite veins in weathered limestone: implications for the terrestrial carbon cycle显示文摘The continent is the second largest carbon sink on Earth’s surface.With the diversification of vascular land plants in the late Paleozoic,terrestrial organic carbon burial is represented by massive coal formation,while the development of soil profiles would account for both organic and inorganic carbon burial.As compared with soil organic carbon,inorganic carbon burial,collectively known as the soil carbonate,would have a greater impact on the long-term carbon cycle.Soil carbonate would have multiple carbon sources,including dissolution of host calcareous rocks,dissolved inorganic carbon from freshwater,and oxidation of organic matter,but the host calcareous rock dissolution would not cause atmospheric CO2drawdown.Thus,to evaluate the potential effect of soil carbonate formation on the atmospheric p CO2level,different carbon sources of soil carbonate should be quantitatively differentiated.In this study,we analyzed the carbon and magnesium isotopes of pedogenic calcite veins developed in a heavily weathered outcrop,consisting of limestone of the early Paleogene Guanzhuang Group in North China.Based on the C and Mg isotope data,we developed a numerical model to quantify the carbon source of calcite veins.The modeling results indicate that4–37 wt%of carbon in these calcite veins was derived from atmospheric CO2.The low contribution from atmospheric CO2might be attributed to the host limestone that might have diluted the atmospheric CO2sink.Nevertheless,taking this value into consideration,it is estimated that soil carbonate formation would lower 1 ppm atmospheric CO2within 2000 years,i.e.,soil carbonate alone would sequester all atmospheric CO2within 1 million years.Finally,our study suggests the C–Mg isotope system might be a better tool in quantifying the carbon source of soil carbonate. | Lin Zou Lin Dong Meng Ning Kangjun Huang Yongbo Peng Shujian Qin Honglin Yuan Bing Shen | 2019 | Acta Geochimica2019,38,4: | 2 |

| 11 | Triple oxygen isotope constraints on the origin of ocean island basalts显示文摘Understanding the origin of ocean island basalts(OIB) has important bearings on Earth's deep mantle.Although it is widely accepted that subducted oceanic crust, as a consequence of plate tectonics, contributes material to OIB's formation, its exact fraction in OIB's mantle source remains ambiguous largely due to uncertainties associated with existing geochemical proxies. Here we show, through theoretical calculation, that unlike many known proxies, triple oxygen isotope compositions(i.e.D^(17 )O) in olivine samples are not affected by crystallization and partial melting. This unique feature, therefore, allows olivine D^(17 )O values to identify subducted oceanic crusts in OIB's mantle source. Furthermore, the fractions of subducted ocean sediments and hydrothermally altered oceanic crust in OIB's mantle source can be quantified using their characteristic D^(17 )O values. | 15 | Feasibility and physics potential of detecting ^(8)B solar neutrinos at JUNO显示文摘The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory(JUNO)features a 20 kt multi-purpose underground liquid scintillator sphere as its main detector.Some of JUNO's features make it an excellent location for^8B solar neutrino measurements,such as its low-energy threshold,high energy resolution compared with water Cherenkov detectors,and much larger target mass compared with previous liquid scintillator detectors.In this paper,we present a comprehensive assessment of JUNO's potential for detecting^8B solar neutrinos via the neutrino-electron elastic scattering process.A reduced 2 MeV threshold for the recoil electron energy is found to be achievable,assuming that the intrinsic radioactive background^(238)U and^(232)Th in the liquid scintillator can be controlled to 10^(-17)g/g.With ten years of data acquisition,approximately 60,000 signal and 30,000 background events are expected.This large sample will enable an examination of the distortion of the recoil electron spectrum that is dominated by the neutrino flavor transformation in the dense solar matter,which will shed new light on the inconsistency between the measured electron spectra and the predictions of the standard three-flavor neutrino oscillation framework.IfDelta m^(2)_(21)=4.8times10^(-5);(7.5times10^(-5))eV^(2),JUNO can provide evidence of neutrino oscillation in the Earth at approximately the 3sigma(2sigma)level by measuring the non-zero signal rate variation with respect to the solar zenith angle.Moreover,JUNO can simultaneously measureDelta m^2_(21)using^8B solar neutrinos to a precision of 20% or better,depending on the central value,and to sub-percent precision using reactor antineutrinos.A comparison of these two measurements from the same detector will help understand the current mild inconsistency between the value of Delta m^2_(21)reported by solar neutrino experiments and the KamLAND experiment. | 17 | Palynological assemblage in the late Early Cretaceous from Sikouzi Section, Liupanshan Group, Central China and its implication to paleoenvironment change显示文摘The Cretaceous(ca.145 Ma^65 Ma)was characterized by remarkable greenhouse conditions which was more server than present greenhouse gas emissions.However,this special climate condition is mainly documented from marine records.The information derived from continental sediments including terrestrial vegetation is relatively scarce.Here,we report on a palynological study of 17 samples from the Lower Cretaceous Liupanshan Group of the Sikouzi Section(spanning116 Ma^103 Ma),Liupanshan Basin and analyzed for paleoclimate implications.The palynoflora is diverse,dominated by Classopollis(Cheirolepidiaceae),with abundant ferns and rare angiosperms.The dominant ferns are from Lygodiaceae and Schizaeaceae.The palynological data shows that the Early Cretaceous floras are derived from various settings,i.e.,the Coniferales on high elevation mountains,Cheirolepidiaceae along low hills near lakes,ferns in marsh wetlands,and algae in fresh water lakes.The palynoflora indicates that the climate in the Liupanshan area is hot and dry,and the palaeogeography is characterized by complex and various outlook during the Early Cretaceous,furthermore,climate evolution revealed by the vegetation can be divided into two stages during this period.From 116 Ma to 112 Ma,the concentration of thermophilic and xerophilous species such as Cheirolepidiaceae and Schizaeaceae were relatively low,conifers increased significantly,and fern concentration remained steady.This ecosystem suggests a humid and cold climate during this period.From 112 Ma to 103 Ma,the concentration of Cheirolepidiaceae and Schizaeaceae was relatively high,and conifers decreased significantly.Compared to the upper stage,the total percentage of Lygodiaceae spores were relatively low.Vegetation change during this period may indicate an increased trend of a dry and hot environment in this region.The trend of climate change recorded by the pollen assemblages during this period coincide with global sea surface temperature fluctuation.Thus,climate change recorded by the palynological assemblage in the Sikouzi section correlates well with global climate change during the Early Cretaceous. | Qiang Zhu Shuang Dai YongBo Huang JunWei Liu | 2017 | Research in Cold and Arid Regions2017,9,5: | 0 |
| 18 | Genome Assembly and Population Resequencing Reveal the Geographical Divergence of Shanmei(Rubus corchorifolius)显示文摘Rubus corchorifolius(Shanmei or mountain berry,2n=14)is widely distributed in China,and its fruits possess high nutritional and medicinal values.Here,we reported a highquality chromosome-scale genome assembly of Shanmei,with contig size of 215.69 Mb and 26,696 genes.Genome comparison among Rosaceae species showed that Shanmei and Fupenzi(Rubus chingii Hu)were most closely related,followed by blackberry(Rubus occidentalis),and that environmental adaptation-related genes were expanded in the Shanmei genome.Further resequencing of 101 samples of Shanmei collected from four regions in the provinces of Yunnan,Hunan,Jiangxi,and Sichuan in China revealed that among these samples,the Hunan population of Shanmei possessed the highest diversity and represented the more ancestral population.Moreover,the Yunnan population underwent strong selection based on the nucleotide diversity,linkage disequilibrium,and historical effective population size analyses.Furthermore,genes from candidate genomic regions that showed strong divergence were significantly enriched in the flavonoid biosynthesis and plant hormone signal transduction pathways,indicating the genetic basis of adaptation of Shanmei to the local environment.The high-quality assembled genome and the variome dataset of Shanmei provide valuable resources for breeding applications and for elucidating the genome evolution and ecological adaptation of Rubus species. | Yinqing Yang Kang Zhang Ya Xiao Lingkui Zhang Yile Huang Xing Li Shumin Chen Yansong Peng Shuhua Yang Yongbo Liu Feng Cheng | 2022 | Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics2022,20,6: | 0 |
