2Tooth regeneration: a revolution in stomatology and evolution in regenerative medicine显示文摘A tooth is a complex biological organ and consists of multiple tissues including the enamel, dentin, cementum and pulp. Tooth loss is the most common organ failure. Can a tooth be regenerated? Can adult stem cells be orchestrated to regenerate tooth structures such as the enamel, dentin, cementum and dental pulp, or even an entire tooth? If not, what are the therapeutically viable sources of stem cells for tooth regeneration? Do stem cells necessarily need to be taken out of the body, and manipulated ex vivo before they are transplanted for tooth regeneration? How can regenerated teeth be economically competitive with dental implants? Would it be possible to make regenerated teeth affordable by a large segment of the population worldwide? This review article explores existing and visionary approaches that address some of the above-mentioned questions. Tooth regeneration represents a revolution in stomatology as a shift in the paradigm from repair to regeneration: repair is by metal or artificial materials whereas regeneration is by biological restoration. 3Bone morphogenetic protein-7 represses hepatic stellate cell activation and liver fibrosis via regulation of TGF-β/Smad signaling pathway显示文摘BACKGROUND Liver fibrosis is a refractory disease whose persistence can eventually induce cirrhosis or even liver cancer.Early liver fibrosis is reversible by intervention.As a member of the transforming growth factor-beta(TGF-β)superfamily,bone morphogenetic protein 7(BMP7)has anti-liver fibrosis functions.However,little is known about BMP7 expression changes and its potential regulatory mechanism as well as the relationship between BMP7 and TGF-βduring liver fibrosis.In addition,the mechanism underlying the anti-liver fibrosis function of BMP7 needs to be further explored.AIM To investigate changes in the dynamic expression of BMP7 during liver fibrosis,interactions between BMP7 and TGF-β1,and possible mechanisms underlying the anti-liver fibrosis function of BMP7.METHODS Changes in BMP7 expression during liver fibrosis and the interaction between BMP7 and TGF-β1 in mice were observed.Exogenous BMP7 was used to treat mouse primary hepatic stellate cells(HSCs)to observe its effect on activation,migration,and proliferation of HSCs and explore the possible mechanism underlying the anti-liver fibrosis function of BMP7.Mice with liver fibrosis received exogenous BMP7 intervention to observe improvement of liver fibrosis by using Masson’s trichrome staining and detecting the expression of the HSC activation indicator alpha-smooth muscle actin(α-SMA)and the collagen formation associated protein type I collagen(Col I).Changes in the dynamic expression of BMP7 during liver fibrosis in the human body were further observed.RESULTS In the process of liver fibrosis induced by carbon tetrachloride(CCl4)in mice,BMP7 protein expression first increased,followed by a decrease;there was a similar trend in the human body.This process was accompanied by a sustained increase in TGF-β1 protein expression.In vitro experiment results showed that TGF-β1 inhibited BMP7 expression in a time-and dose-dependent manner.In contrast,high doses of exogenous BMP7 inhibited TGF-β1-induced activation,migration,and proliferation of HSCs;this inhibitory effect was associated with upregulation of pSmad1/5/8 and downregulation of phosphorylation of Smad3 and p38 by BMP7.In vivo experiment results showed that exogenous BMP7 improved liver fibrosis in mice.CONCLUSION During liver fibrosis,BMP7 protein expression first increases and then decreases.This changing trend is associated with inhibition of BMP7 expression by sustained upregulation of TGF-β1 in a time-and dose-dependent manner.Exogenous BMP7 could selectively regulate TGF-β/Smad pathway-associated factors to inhibit activation,migration,and proliferation of HSCs and exert antiliver fibrosis functions.Exogenous BMP7 has the potential to be used as an antiliver fibrosis drug.Gao-Liang Zou Shi Zuo Shuang Lu Rui-Han Hu Yin-Ying Lu Jing Yang Kai-Sheng Deng Ye-Ting Wu Mao Mu Juan-Juan Zhu Jing-Zhang Zeng Bao-Fang Zhang Xian Wu Xue-Ke Zhao Hai-Yang Li 2019World Journal of Gastroenterology2019,25,30:15

5Quantifying public health benefits of environmental strategy of PM2.5 air quality management in Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region,China显示文摘In 2013,China issued 'Air Pollution Prevention and Control Action Plan(Action Plan)' to improve air quality.To assess the benefits of this program in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei(BTH)region,where the density of population and emissions vary greatly,we simulated the air quality benefit based on Ben MAP to satisfy the Action Plan.In this study,we estimate PM_(2.5) concentration using Voronoi spatial interpolation method on a grid with a spatial resolution of 1 × 1 km^2.Combined with the exposure-response function between PM_(2.5) concentration and health endpoints,health effects of PM_(2.5) exposure are analyzed.The economic loss is assessed by using the willingness to pay(WTP) method and human capital(HC) method.When the PM_(2.5) concentration falls by 25% in BTH and reached 60 μg/m^3 in Beijing,the avoiding deaths will be in the range of 3175 to 14051 based on different functions each year.Of the estimated mortality attributable to all causes,3117 annual deaths were due to lung cancer,1924 – 6318 annual deaths were due to cardiovascular,and343 – 1697 annual deaths were due to respiratory.Based on WTP,the estimated monetary values for the avoided cases of all cause mortality,cardiovascular mortality,respiratory mortality and lung cancer ranged from 1110 to 29632,673 to 13325,120 to 3579,1091 to 6574 million yuan,respectively.Based on HC,the corresponding values for the avoided cases of these four mortalities were 267 to 1178,161 to 529,29 to 143 and 261 million yuan,respectively.Li Chen Mengshuang Shi Suhuan Li Shuang Gao Hui Zhang Yanling Sun Jian Mao Zhipeng Bai Zhongliang Wang Jiang Zhou 2017Journal of Environmental Sciences2017,29,7:6
6Phytochrome B interacts with SWC6 and ARP6 to regulate H2A.Z deposition and photomorphogensis in Arabidopsis显示文摘Light serves as a crucial environmental cue which modulates plant growth and development, and which is controlled by multiple photoreceptors including the primary red light photoreceptor,phytochrome B(phyB). The signaling mechanism of phyB involves direct interactions with a group of basic helix-loop-helix(bHLH) transcription factors, PHYTOCHROME-INTERACTING FACTORS(PIFs), and the negative regulators of photomorphogenesis, COP1 and SPAs. H2 A.Z is an evolutionarily conserved H2 A variant which plays essential roles in transcriptional regulation. The replacement of H2 A with H2 A.Z is catalyzed by the SWR1 complex. Here, we show that the Pfr form of phyB physically interacts with the SWR1 complex subunits SWC6 and ARP6. phyB and ARP6 coregulate numerous genes in the same direction,some of which are associated with auxin biosynthesis and response including YUC9, which encodes a rate-limiting enzyme in the tryptophandependent auxin biosynthesis pathway. Moreover,phyB and HY5/HYH act to inhibit hypocotyl elongation partially through repression of auxin biosynthesis. 7Detection of the critical micelle concentration of cationic and anionic surfactants based on aggregation-induced emission property of hexaphenylsilole derivatives显示文摘We report a fluorescence 'turn-on' method to detect the critical micelle concentration (CMC) of surfactants. This method works well for both cationic and anionic surfactants. It employs an unprecedented mechanism (aggregation-induced emission, or AIE) to determine the CMC values, and the results are consistent with the data obtained by the classical techniques. In addition, this method renders the convenient detection of the CMC values. Any large and professional instruments are unnecessary, instead, a portable UV lamp and an ultrasonic generator are enough to carry out the detection in an ordinary laboratory. Considering that micelles are interesting entities and have found applications in many important fields such as emulsion polymerization, template of nanosized materials synthesis, controllable drug delivery and macromolecular self-assembling. 8Basal physiological parameters in domesticated tree shrews (Tupaia belangeri chinensis)显示文摘Establishing non-human primate models of human diseases is an efficient way to narrow the large gap between basic studies and translational medicine. Multifold advantages such as simplicity of breeding, low cost of feeding and facility of operating make the tree shrew an ideal non-human primate model proxy. Additional features like vulnerability to stress and spontaneous diabetic characteristics also indicate that the tree shrew could be a potential new animal model of human diseases. However, basal physiological indexes of tree shrew, especially those related to human disease, have not been systematically reported. Accordingly, we established important basal physiological indexes of domesticated tree shrews including several factors: (1) body weight, (2) core body temperature and rhythm, (3) diet metabolism, (4) locomotor rhythm, (5) electroencephalogram, (6) glycometabolism and (7) serum and urinary hormone level and urinary cortisol rhythm. We compared the physiological parameters of domesticated tree shrew with that of rats and macaques. Results showed that (a) the core body temperature of the tree shrew was 39.59±0.05 °C, which was higher than that of rats and macaques; (b) Compared with wild tree shrews, with two activity peaks, domesticated tree shrews had only one activity peak from 17:30 to 19:30; (c) Compared with rats, tree shrews had poor carbohydrate metabolism ability; and (d) Urinary cortisol rhythm indicated there were two peaks at 8:00 and 17:00 in domesticated tree shrews, which matched activity peaks in wild tree shrews. 10Resveratrol elongates the lifespan and improves antioxidant activity in the silkworm Bombyx mori显示文摘A number of research has shown that the plant polyphenol resveratrol,one of the most prominent small molecules,has beneficial protective effects in multiple organisms,including worms,flies,and killifish.To understand the effects of resveratrol on lifespan,we evaluated its effects in the silkworm Bombyx mori.In this study,we found that lifespan was significantly prolonged in both female and male silkworms treated with resveratrol.Silkworm larval weight was significantly increased from day 3 of the 5th larval instar(L5D3)to day 7 of the 5th larval instar(L5D7).However,the weight of the pupa,cocoon,and total cocoon was not significantly different in female silkworms with resveratrol treatment than that in controls.Meanwhile,resveratrol significantly improved the thermotolerance of the silkworms,which enhanced their survival rate.Moreover,antioxidant activity was increased by resveratrol in both female and male silkworms.Furthermore,an antioxidant-related signalling pathway,SIRT7-FoxO-GST,was activated in silkworms with resveratrol treatment.Collectively,these results help us to understand the molecular pathways underlying resveratrol induced pro-longevity effects and indicate that silkworm is a promising animal model for evaluating the effects of lifespan-extending drugs.Jiangbo Song Lian Liu Kaige Hao Shuang Mao Yongxi Tang Xiaoling Tong Fangyin Dai 2021Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis2021,11,3:4

12The first data release(DR1) of the LAMOST regular survey显示文摘The Large sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope(LAMOST) general survey is a spectroscopic survey that will eventually cover approximately half of the celestial sphere and collect 10 million spectra of stars, galaxies and QSOs. Objects in both the pilot survey and the first year regular survey are included in the LAMOST DR1. The pilot survey started in October 2011 and ended in June 2012, and the data have been released to the public as the LAMOST Pilot Data Release in August 2012. The regular survey started in September 2012, and completed its first year of operation in June 2013. The LAMOST DR1 includes a total of 1202 plates containing 2 955 336 spectra, of which 1 790 879 spectra have observed signalto-noise ratio(SNR) ≥ 10. All data with SNR ≥ 2 are formally released as LAMOST DR1 under the LAMOST data policy. This data release contains a total of 2 204 696 spectra, of which 1 944 329 are stellar spectra, 12 082 are galaxy spectra and 5017 are quasars. The DR1 not only includes spectra, but also three stellar catalogs with measured parameters: late A,FGK-type stars with high quality spectra(1 061 918 entries), A-type stars(100 073 entries), and M-type stars(121 522 entries). This paper introduces the survey design, the observational and instrumental limitations, data reduction and analysis, and some caveats. 15Basal physiological parameters in domesticated tree shrews(Tupaia belangeri chinensis)显示文摘Establishing non-human primate models of human diseases is an efficient way to narrow the large gap between basic studies and translational medicine.Multifold advantages such as simplicity of breeding,low cost of feeding and facility of operating make the tree shrew an ideal non-human primate model proxy.Additional features like vulnerability to stress and spontaneous diabetic characteristics also indicate that the tree shrew could be a potential new animal model of human diseases.However,basal physiological indexes of tree shrew,especially those related to human disease,have not been systematically reported.Accordingly,we established important basal physiological indexes of domesticated tree shrews including several factors:(1)body weight,(2)core body temperature and rhythm,(3)diet metabolism,(4)locomotor rhythm,(5)electroencephalogram,(6)glycometabolism and(7)serum and urinary hormone level and urinary cortisol rhythm.We compared the physiological parameters of domesticated tree shrew with that of rats and macaques.Results showed that(a)the core body temperature of the tree shrew was 39.59±0.05°C,which was higher than that of rats and macaques;(b)Compared with wild tree shrews,with two activity peaks,domesticated tree shrews had only one activity peak from 17:30 to 19:30;(c)Compared with rats,tree shrews had poor carbohydrate metabolism ability;and(d)Urinary cortisol rhythm indicated there were two peaks at 8:00 and 17:00 in domesticated tree shrews,which matched activity peaks in wild tree shrews.These results provided basal physiological indexes for domesticated tree shrews and laid an important foundation for diabetes and stress-related disease models established on tree shrews.Jing WANG Xin-Li XU Ze-Yang DING Rong-Rong MAO Qi-Xin ZHOU Long-Bao LV Li-Ping WANG Shuang WANG Chen ZHANG Lin XU Yue-Xiong YANG 2013Zoological Research2013,34,S02:2
16Effects of typhoon Roke and Haitang on phytoplankton community structure in northeastern South China sea显示文摘The influence of typhoon and Kuroshio intrusion process on the natural phytoplankton assemblages in the northeastern South China Sea(neSCS)was examined during a cruise in summer 2017.One hundred ninety-six seawater samples were collected and analyzed in the neSCS.In total,299 species were identified belonging to 82 genera,mostly dominated by Bacillariophyta(159),followed by Dinophyta(132),Cyanophyta(4)and Chrysophyta(4).Among all,Thalassionema nitzschioides,Thalassionema frauenfeldii,Thalassiosira minima,in Bacillariophyta,Prorocentrum lenticulatum,Prorocentrum compressum in Dinophyta,and Trichodesmium thiebautii,in the Cyanophyta were the most dominated species,respectively.Correlation analysis shows compared with other groups Bacillariophyta was mostly influenced by silicate,whereas,Dinophyta and Cyanophyta showed significant correlation with temperature,salinity,phosphate,and nitrate.After the typhoon,the higher abundance of Dinophyta was observed,whereas it was lower in case of Bacillariophyta and Cyanophyta,shows typhoon“Roke“and”Haitang”had a significant influence on the phytoplankton assemblages,which could be manifested by the variations of total phytoplankton abundance in the surface water of neSCS.Overall,our present study provides the latest in-depth information about how the environmental factors influencing the phytoplankton density and diversity in the neSCS during summer.Yingjie Mao Jun Sun Congcong Guo Yuqiu Wei Xingzhou Wang Shuang Yang Chao Wu 2019Ecosystem Health and Sustainability2019,5,1:2

20Genetic Characteristics and Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Arcobacter butzleri Isolates from Raw Chicken Meat and Patients with Diarrhea in China显示文摘Arcobacter is an emerging foodborne pathogen worldwide.In this study,the prevalence,antimicrobial susceptibility and genetic characteristics of Arcobacter from different sources were investigated.Eighteen A.butzleri isolates were obtained from 60 raw chicken meat samples(16/60,27%)and 150 patients with diarrhea(2/150,1.3%).The resistance ratios to nalidixic acid,ciprofloxacin,clindamycin,chloramphenicol,and florfenicol were 83.33%(15/18),38.89%(7/18),38.89%(7/18),33.33%(6/18)and 33.33%(6/18),respectively.We performed whole genome sequencing of the 18 isolates,and we predicted antibiotic resistance genes and virulence factors by using assembled genomes through blastx analysis.Two resistance genes,blaOXA-464 and tet(H),and the C254T mutation in gyrA,were identified in the genomes of some resistant isolates.Furthermore,virulence genes,such as flgG,flhA,flhB,fliI,fliP,motA,cadF,cjl349,ciaB,mviN,pldA and tlyA,were found in all strains,whereas hecA,hecB and iroE were found in only some strains.Phylogenetic tree analysis of A.butzleri isolates on the basis of the core-genome single nucleotide polymorphisms showed that two isolates from patients with diarrhea clustered together,separately from the isolates from raw chicken and the chicken strains.This study is the first comprehensive analysis of Arcobacter isolated in Beijing.WANG Yuan Yuan ZHOU Gui Lan LI Ying GU Yi Xin HE Mu ZHANG Shuang JI Guo Qiang YANG Jie WANG Miao MA Hong Mei ZHANG Mao Jun 2021Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2021,34,12:1
