| 1 | Intestinal lysozyme liberates Nod1 ligands from microbes to direct insulin trafficking in pancreatic beta cells显示文摘Long-range communication between intestinal symbiotic bacteria and extra-intestinal organs can occur through circulating bacterial signal molecules, through neural circuits, or through cytokines or hormones from host cells. Here we report that Nod1 ligands derived from intestinal bacteria act as signal molecules and directly modulate insulin trafficking in pancreatic beta cells. The cytosolic peptidoglycan receptor Nod1 and its downstream adapter Rip2 are required for insulin trafficking in beta cells in a cell-autonomous manner. Mechanistically, upon recognizing cognate ligands, Nod1 and Rip2 localize to insulin vesicles, recruiting Rab1a to direct insulin trafficking through the cytoplasm. Importantly, intestinal lysozyme liberates Nod1 ligands into the circulation, thus enabling long-range communication between intestinal microbes and islets. The intestine-islet crosstalk bridged by Nod1 ligands modulates host glucose tolerance. | 4 | Role of 5-hydroxytryptamine expression in cerebellar Purkinje cells in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome显示文摘In the present study, electrical stimulation to the rat insular cortex induced apnea or respiratory disturbance, reduced amplitude of genioglossal electromyogram, and decreased electromyogram integrals. In addition, arterial blood gas analysis showed arterial blood acidosis, reduced pH values, increased alkali reserve negative values, decreased peripheral blood 5-hydroxytryptamine content, and increased 5-hydroxytryptamine expression in cerebellar Purkinje cells. Following lidocaine injection to block the habenular nucleus, abnormalities in breath, genioglossal electromyogram, and blood gas values disappeared, and peripheral blood 5-hydroxytryptamine content returned to levels prior to electric stimulation. However, 5-hydroxytryptamine expression in cerebellar Purkinje cells remained high. | 6 | The effects of medical insurance and patients’ preference on manufacturer encroachment in a pharmaceutical supply chain显示文摘With the development of e-commerce,manufacturers have opportunities to sell products to consumers through direct channels in addition to independent retailers.Although manufacturers’encroachment upon the retailing market of traditional goods has been extensively studied,there is a lack of research on manufacturers’encroachment in a pharmaceutical supply chain.This paper analyzes a pharmaceutical manufacturer encroachment strategy by taking into account the distinctive features of drugs,in which drug expenses are covered by medical insurance only in the physical channel and patients'channel preference is also considered.We find that under certain circumstances,the manufacturer encroachment may lead to a win-win outcome for both the manufacturer and the retailer,contradicting the conventional wisdom that the manufacturer's encroachment into retail space is detrimental to the independent retailer.Additionally,the manufacturer is more likely to encroach when the incurred extra cost is sufficiently small,the perceived quality of the drug selling through the direct channel is sufficiently high and the out-of-pocket percentage cost of the drug selling in the physical channel is high.We further study the impact of manufacturer encroachment on social welfare and find that the introduction of encroachment decreases the social welfare when patients'perceived quality of the drug obtained through the online store is low and improves the social welfare when the perceived quality exceeds a certain threshold. | Yanfei Lan Pingping Lu Chen Pan Sarmajit Kar Weifeng Li | 2022 | Journal of Management Science and Engineering2022,7,2: | 1 |

| 8 | Feasibility and physics potential of detecting ^(8)B solar neutrinos at JUNO显示文摘The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory(JUNO)features a 20 kt multi-purpose underground liquid scintillator sphere as its main detector.Some of JUNO's features make it an excellent location for^8B solar neutrino measurements,such as its low-energy threshold,high energy resolution compared with water Cherenkov detectors,and much larger target mass compared with previous liquid scintillator detectors.In this paper,we present a comprehensive assessment of JUNO's potential for detecting^8B solar neutrinos via the neutrino-electron elastic scattering process.A reduced 2 MeV threshold for the recoil electron energy is found to be achievable,assuming that the intrinsic radioactive background^(238)U and^(232)Th in the liquid scintillator can be controlled to 10^(-17)g/g.With ten years of data acquisition,approximately 60,000 signal and 30,000 background events are expected.This large sample will enable an examination of the distortion of the recoil electron spectrum that is dominated by the neutrino flavor transformation in the dense solar matter,which will shed new light on the inconsistency between the measured electron spectra and the predictions of the standard three-flavor neutrino oscillation framework.IfDelta m^(2)_(21)=4.8times10^(-5);(7.5times10^(-5))eV^(2),JUNO can provide evidence of neutrino oscillation in the Earth at approximately the 3sigma(2sigma)level by measuring the non-zero signal rate variation with respect to the solar zenith angle.Moreover,JUNO can simultaneously measureDelta m^2_(21)using^8B solar neutrinos to a precision of 20% or better,depending on the central value,and to sub-percent precision using reactor antineutrinos.A comparison of these two measurements from the same detector will help understand the current mild inconsistency between the value of Delta m^2_(21)reported by solar neutrino experiments and the KamLAND experiment. | 10 | Phenotyping of poplar seedling leaves based on a 3D visualization method显示文摘In plant research,there is a demand for non-destructive and non-invasive trait measurement methods for phenotyping that can be used to accurately analyze various aspects of plants,such as stem length,leaf area,and leaf inclination.In this study,a method for measuring the leaf geometric characteristics of poplar seedlings based on 3D visualization via the use of time-of-flight(ToF)and digital cameras was proposed.Firstly,the average distance density function method was applied to process outliers of leaves.Secondly,to improve the accuracy of data fitting,a specific method using the angle of adjacent two-point normal vectors was introduced to filter redundant data,kept essential sample values as the control points,and then used the control points to fit the leaf surface based on non-uniform rational B-splines(NURBS).At the same time,NURBS was used to fit the trunk according to its control points and an iterative method to fit the other branches.Finally,3D visualization of poplar seedlings was achieved,and leaf traits,including leaf width,leaf length,leaf area,and leaf inclination angle,were calculated.To obtain accurate results,multiple experiments were conducted including assessments of poplar seedlings exhibiting normal growth and those grown under water shortage.The results of the proposed method were compared with the real values of the leaves.The RMSE for leaf width,leaf length,leaf area,and leaf angle were 0.18 cm,0.21 cm,1.14 cm^(2),and 1.97°,respectively.The results proved that this approach could be used to accurately measure the leaf characteristics of poplar seedlings via visualization. | Chunhua Hu Pingping Li Zhou Pan | 2018 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2018,11,6: | 0 |
| 11 | Role of Natural Product Eriocalyxin B in Promoting Apoptosis of Colon Cancer Cells through ERK1/2 Pathway显示文摘[Objectives] To investigate the role of Eriocalyxin B (EriB) in promoting colon cancer cell apoptosis through ERK1/2 pathway in vitro, and to provide a natural candidate drug for colon cancer treatment. [Methods] Colon cancer cells treated with different concentrations of EriB were detected by CCK-8 assay;cell scratch assay and crystal violet staining were used to detect the invasion and migration of colon cancer cell;cell apoptosis was detected by Annexin V/PI double staining, and cell cycle was detected by PI staining;Western Blotting was used to detect epithelial-mesenchymal transition and apoptosis-related proteins in colon cancer cells treated with EriB. [Results] After EriB treatment, the proliferation, migration and apoptosis of colon cancer cells were significantly inhibited, and the ratio of P-ERK1/2 to ERK was significantly decreased. | 12 | Hydraulic path dependence of shear strength for compacted loess显示文摘Shear strength is an essential geotechnical parameter for assessing the landslide potential of loess slopes under rainfall infiltration and farm irrigation conditions on the loess plateau.However,the hydraulic path dependence of shear strength for compacted loess under varying rainfall infiltration conditions has not been thoroughly investigated yet.To this end,a series of direct shear tests and nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)measurements are carried out on compacted loess.The shear strength tests were continuously implemented on loess specimens under scanning wetting paths besides initial drying paths.The experimental data quantitatively verify the significant effect of hydraulic paths applied to specimens on shear strength of compacted loess.The unique failure envelope of shear strength of loess is identified under the effective stress framework based on intergranular stress,which verifies that the effective stress framework can consider the effect of hydraulic paths on shear strength.Based on the effective stress,a shear strength formula is proposed to characterize shear strengths under varying hydraulic paths,in which the parameters from the soil-water retention curve and shear strength at saturated state are simply required.The proposed shear strength formula can properly predict the measured shear strength data of compacted loess experiencing three hydraulic paths.Furthermore,the distribution curves of transverse relaxation time for pore water in soil under varying hydraulic paths are simultaneously measured using the NMR method.The physical mechanism for the difference in shear strength of loess subjected to different hydraulic paths can be uncovered based on soil-water evolutions in pores in microscale. | Pan Chen Shengao Jia Xiaoqi Wei Pingping Sun Panpan Yi Changfu Wei | 2023 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2023,15,7: | 0 |
