| 1 | Precise nanomedicine for intelligent therapy of cancer显示文摘Precise nanomedicine has been extensively explored for efficient cancer imaging and targeted cancer therapy, as evidenced by a few breakthroughs in their preclinical and clinical explorations. Here, we demonstrate the recent advances of intelligent cancer nanomedicine, and discuss the comprehensive understanding of their structure-function relationship for smart and efficient cancer nanomedicine including various imaging and therapeutic applications, as well as nanotoxicity. In particular, a few emerging strategies that have advanced cancer nanomedicine are also highlighted as the emerging focus such as tumor imprisonment, supramolecular chemotherapy, and DNA nanorobot. The challenge and outlook of some scientific and engineering issues are also discussed in future development. | 4 | Chinese herbal medicine reduces mortality in patients with severe and critical coronavirus disease 2019: a retrospective cohort study显示文摘This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of Chinese herbal medicine(CHM)in patients with severe/critical coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).In this retrospective study,data were collected from 662 patients with severe/critical COVID-19 who were admitted to a designated hospital to treat patients with severe COVID-19 in Wuhan before March 20,2020.All patients were divided into an exposed group(CHM users)and a control group(non-users).After propensity score matching in a 1:1 ratio,156 CHM users were matched by propensity score to 156 non-users.No significant differences in seven baseline clinical variables were found between the two groups of patients.All-cause mortality was reported in 13 CHM users who died and 36 non-users who died.After multivariate adjustment,the mortality risk of CHM users was reduced by 82.2%(odds ratio 0.178,95%CI 0.076–0.418;P<0.001)compared with the non-users.Secondly,age(odds ratio 1.053,95%CI 1.023–1.084;P<0.001)and the proportion of severe/critical patients(odds ratio 0.063,95%CI 0.028–0.143;P<0.001)were the risk factors of mortality.These results show that the use of CHM may reduce the mortality of patients with severe/critical COVID-19. | Guohua Chen Wen Su Jiayao Yang Dan Luo Ping Xia Wen Jia Xiuyang Li Chuan Wang Suping Lang Qingbin Meng Ying Zhang Yuhe Ke An Fan Shuo Yang Yujiao Zheng Xuepeng Fan Jie Qiao Fengmei Lian Li Wei Xiaolin Tong | 2020 | Frontiers of Medicine2020,14,6: | 10 |
| 5 | The unconformity in Miocene sequence of western Qaidam Basin and its tectonic significance显示文摘An angular unconformity has been identified between the upper and the lower Youshashan Formation based on the study of the regional geology, drillhole, and geophysical data of the Altyn Tagh Mountain foreland, western Qaidam Basin. The distribution of the unconformity, the contacts between the upper and the lower Youshashan Formation, and its relation to the characteristics of the paleo-structure belts suggest a close relationship between the unconformities in the southern flank of the Altyn Tagh Mountain in the west of the Qaidam Basin and the activity of the Altyn Tagh Fault. | 6 | Variations in the Lower Level of the PBL Associated with the Yellow Sea Fog-New Observations by L-Band Radar显示文摘The Chinese east coastal areas and marginal seas are foggy regions. The development of effective forecasting methods rests upon a comprehensive knowledge of the fog phenomena. This study provides new observations associated with the sea fogs over the northwestern Yellow Sea by means of L-band radar soundings with a high vertical resolution of 30 m. The monthly temperature lapse rate, the Richardson Numbers, and the humidity show obvious seasonal variations in the lower level of the planetary boundary layer (PBL) that are related to the onset, peak and end of the Yellow Sea fog season. The typical pattern of stratification for the sea fog season in the northwestern Yellow Sea is that a stable layer of about 400 m thick caps a 150 m conditionally unstable layer. Besides, the differences between fogs and stratus clouds in terms of humidity, turbulence and temperature are analyzed, which is of significance for sea fog forecast and detection by satellites. The thickness of the sea fogs varies in different stages of the fog season, and is associated with the temperature inversion. | 8 | Secretory/releasing proteome-based identification of plasma biomarkers in HBV-associated hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘For successful therapy, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) must be detected at an early stage. Herein, we used a proteomic approach to analyze the secretory/releasing proteome of HCC tissues to identify plasma biomarkers. Serum-free conditioned media (CM) were collected from primary cultures of cancerous tissues and surrounding noncancerous tissues. Proteomic analysis of the CM proteins permitted the identification of 1365 proteins. The enriched molecular functions and biological processes of the CM proteins, such as hydrolase activity and catabolic processes, were consistent with the liver being the most important metabolic organ. Moreover, 19% of the proteins were characterized as extracellular or membrane-bound. For validation, secretory proteins involved in transforming growth factor-β signaling pathways were validated in plasma samples. Alphafetoprotein (AFP), metalloproteinase (MMP)1, osteopontin (OPN), and pregnancy-specific beta-1-glycoprotein (PSG)9 were significantly increased in HCC patients. The overall performance of MMP1 and OPN in the diagnosis of HCC remained greater than that of AFP. In addition, this study represents the first report of MMP1 as a biomarker with a higher sensitivity and specificity than AFP. Thus, this study provides a valuable resource of the HCC secretome with the potential to investigate serological biomarkers. | 9 | Monoclonal Antibody-Based Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay for the Analysis of Jasmonates in Plants显示文摘Methyl jasmonate (MeJA) and its free-acid form, jasmonic acid (JA) are naturally occurring plant growth regulators widely distributed in higher plants. In order to improve the sensitivity for the analysis of MeJA at low levels in small amounts of plant samples, a monoclonal antibody (MAb) (designated as MAb 3E5D7C4B6) against MeJA was derived from a JA-bovine serum albumin (BSA) conjugate as an immunogen. The antibody belongs to the IgG1 subclass with a κ type light chain and has a dissociation constant of approximately 6.07 × 10?9 M. MAb3E5D7C4B6 is very specific to MeJA. It was used to develop a direct competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (dcELISA), conventional and simplified indirect competitive ELISAs (icELISA). JA was derivatized into MeJA for the ELISA analysis. The IC50 value and detection range for MeJA were, respectively, 34 and 4-257 ng/mL by the conventional icELISA, 21 and 3-226 ng/mL by the simplified icELISA and 5.0 and 0.7-97.0 ng/mL by the dcELISA. The dcELISA was more sensitive than either the conventional or simplified icELISA. The assays were used to measure the content of jasmonates as MeJA in tobacco leaves under drought stress or inoculated with tobacco mosaic virus and tomato leaves inoculated with tomato mosaic virus or Lirioinyza sativae Blanchard as compared with the corresponding healthy leaves. Hard tissues include bone and tooth structures that contain calcium phosphate minerals.Smart biomaterial-based tissue engineering and regenerative medicine methods have the exciting potential to meet this urgent need. Smart biomaterials and constructs refer to biomaterials and constructs that possess instructive/inductive or triggering/stimulating effects on cells and tissues by engineering the material's responsiveness to internal or external stimuli or have intelligently tailored properties and functions that can promote tissue repair and regeneration. The smart material-based approaches include smart scaffolds and stem cell constructs for bone tissue engineering; smart drug delivery systems to enhance bone regeneration; smart dental resins that respond to pH to protect tooth structures; smart pH-sensitive dental materials to selectively inhibit acid-producing bacteria; smart polymers to modulate biofilm species away from a pathogenic composition and shift towards a healthy composition; and smart materials to suppress biofilms and avoid drug resistance. These smart biomaterials can not only deliver and guide stem cells to improve tissue regeneration and deliver drugs and bioactive agents with spatially and temporarily controlled releases but can also modulate/suppress biofilms and combat infections in wound sites. | 14 | Heavy mineral assemblage characteristics and the Cenozoic paleogeographic evolution in southwestern Qaidam Basin显示文摘Based on the analysis of heavy mineral assemblages in Cenozoic southwestern Qaidam Basin, we found that different areas have variable heavy mineral assemblage characteristics, which suggested that there were two source areas—the Altyn Mountains and the Qimen Tagh-East Kunlun Mountains. In Ganchaigou-Shizigou-Huatugou(Area A), which was mainly source from the Altyn Mountains, its heavy minerals were mainly composed of zircon, Ti-oxides, and wollastonite in the Paleoceneearly Eocene and mainly of unstable minerals, especially amphibole, in the middle Eocene-Oligene. Since the late OligoceneMiocene, the heavy minerals were still mainly unstable minerals, but the content of epidote increased and the content of amphibole decreased. In Qigequan-Hongliuquan(Area B), which was the mixed source from the Altyn Mountains and the Qimen Tagh-East Kunlun Mountains, its heavy minerals were mainly garnet, epidote, and amphibole. The source of LücaotanDongchaishan-Kunbei(Area C) was mainly from the Qimen Tagh-East Kunlun Mountains, heavy minerals in the sediments in Area C were mainly zircon and Ti-oxides in Paleogene and garnet, epidote, and amphibole in Neogene. In Yuejin-Youshashan(Area D), where the stable minerals and unstable minerals were present simultaneously, the heavy mineral assemblages was controlled by multi-direction source. The variation of heavy mineral assemblages in southwestern Qaidam Basin shows that Altyn Mountains was of low-lying topographic relief in Paleocene-early Eocene, and the rapid uplift of Altyn Mountains started from the middle Eocene. In Paleogene, the Altyn Tagh Fault had a slow strike-slip velocity, but the strike-slip velocity increased greatly since the late Oligocene, leading to a strike-slip displacement above 300 km since Neogene. | 16 | Climate Reconstruction based on Pollen Analysis in Inner Mongolia, North China from 51.9 to 30.6 kaBP显示文摘The palynomorph assemblage of lake sediments younger than 51.9 kaBP from Wulagai Gobi in Inner Mongolia was analyzed to reconstruct the vegetation and climate.From 51.9 to 30.6kaBP,the vegetation was arid to semi-arid grassland with only slight changes.According to the palynomorphs,trees and shrubs were very rare.The large number and diversity of algae indicate the presence of a lake.Quantitative climatic conditions were reconstructed using the Best Analogues Method.The results indicate that the annual mean temperature was higher than that at present.The combination of temperature and annual precipitation suggests a change in the climate from cool dry to warm dry and then cool humid.Our results show that the annual precipitation values were mostly higher than that at present but were lower than 400 mm.It infers that the study area was already within the arid to semi-arid regions but with a stronger influence of the summer monsoon during 51.9to 30.6 kaBP than at present.With slight differences mainly in time scale,the changing trend of the annual temperature curve is consistent with the other climatic records from Antarctica,Greenland,Hulu Cave(East China),and the Tibetan Plateau during the last glacial period.From 30.6 kaBP to present,very few palynomorphs were detected in the samples.Hence,no information about the vegetation and climate could be extracted.Combined with other studies during Late Pleistocene,we presume that the reason for the lack of pollen during this period was caused by an abrupt temperature fall after 30.6 kaBP or that the lacustrine conditions were unsuitable for pollen deposition.It was probably incurred by the oxidation on land prior to deposition.But for those samples only with algae,it might be caused by the fact that algae could finish their life history in a very short time in a seasonal lake. | LI Suping David K.FERGUSON WANG Yong LI Jinfeng YAO Jianxin | 2013 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2013,87,5: | 4 |

| 18 | A Strategy for Merging Objective Estimates of Global Daily Precipitation from Gauge Observations, Satellite Estimates, and Numerical Predictions显示文摘This paper describes a strategy for merging daily precipitation information from gauge observations, satellite estimates(SEs), and numerical predictions at the global scale. The strategy is designed to remove systemic bias and random error from each individual daily precipitation source to produce a better gridded global daily precipitation product through three steps.First, a cumulative distribution function matching procedure is performed to remove systemic bias over gauge-located land areas. Then, the overall biases in SEs and model predictions(MPs) over ocean areas are corrected using a rescaled strategy based on monthly precipitation. Third, an optimal interpolation(OI)–based merging scheme(referred as the HL-OI scheme)is used to combine unbiased gauge observations, SEs, and MPs to reduce random error from each source and to produce a gauge—satellite–model merged daily precipitation analysis, called BMEP-d(Beijing Climate Center Merged Estimation of Precipitation with daily resolution), with complete global coverage. The BMEP-d data from a four-year period(2011–14) demonstrate the ability of the merging strategy to provide global daily precipitation of substantially improved quality.Benefiting from the advantages of the HL-OI scheme for quantitative error estimates, the better source data can obtain more weights during the merging processes. The BMEP-d data exhibit higher consistency with satellite and gauge source data at middle and low latitudes, and with model source data at high latitudes. | 19 | Researching the 915 nm high-power and high-brightness semiconductor laser single chip coupling module显示文摘Based on the high-speed development of the fiber laser in recent years, the development of researching 915 nm semiconductor laser as main pumping sources of the fiber laser is at a high speed. Because the beam quality of the laser diode is very poor, the 915 nm laser diode is generally based on optical fiber coupling module to output the laser. Using the beam-shaping and fiber-coupling technology to improve the quality of output beam light, we present a kind of high-power and high-brightness semiconductor laser module, which can output 13.22 W through the optical fiber. Based on 915 nm GaAs semiconductor laser diode which has output power of 13.91 W, we describe a thoroughly detailed procedure for reshaping the beam output from the semiconductor laser diode and coupling the beam into the optical fiber of which the core diameter is 105 μm and the numerical aperture is 0.18. We get 13.22 W from the output fiber of the module at 14.5 A, the coupling efficiency of the whole module is 95.03% and the brightness is 1.5 MW/cm^2 -str. | 20 | Dental remineralization via poly(amido amine) and restorative materials containing calcium phosphate nanoparticles显示文摘Tooth decay is prevalent,and secondary caries causes restoration failures,both of which are related to demineralization.There is an urgent need to develop new therapeutic materials with remineralization functions.This article represents the first review on the cutting edge research of poly(amido amine)(PAMAM) in combination with nanoparticles of amorphous calcium phosphate (NACP).PAMAM was excellent nucleation template,and could absorb calcium (Ca) and phosphate (P) ions via its functional groups to activate remineralization.NACP composite and adhesive showed acid-neutralization and Ca and P ion release capabilities.PAMAM +NACP together showed synergistic effects and produced triple benefits: excellent nucleation templates,superior acidneutralization,and ions release.Therefore,the PAMAM+NACP strategy possessed much greater remineralization capacity than using PAMAM or NACP alone.PAMAM+NACP achieved dentin remineralization even in an acidic solution without any initial Ca and P ions.Besides,the long-term remineralization capability of PAMAM+NACP was established.After prolonged fluid challenge,the immersed PAMAM with the recharged NACP still induced effective dentin mineral regeneration.Furthermore,the hardness of predemineralized dentin was increased back to that of healthy dentin,indicating a complete remineralization.Therefore,the novel PAMAM+NACP approach is promising to provide long-term therapeutic effects including tooth remineralization,hardness increase,and caries-inhibition capabilities. | Kunneng Liang Suping Wang Siying Tao Shimeng Xiao Han Zhou Ping Wang Lei Cheng Xuedong Zhou Michael D.Weir Thomas W.Oates Jiyao Li Hockin H.K.Xu | 2019 | International Journal of Oral Science2019,11,3: | 3 |
