Geochemical environmental changes and dinosaur extinction during the Cretaceous-Paleogene (K/T) transition in the Nanxiong Basin, South China: Evidence from dinosaur eggshells显示文摘The complex patterns of trace elements including Ir and isotope distributions in the three K/T sections of the Nanxiong Basin prove the existence of two environmental events in the latest Cretaceous and earliest Paleocene. The first geochemical environmental event occurred at about 2 Ma prior to the K/T boundary interval, where the dinosaur diversity was hardly reduced, except that a number of patho-logical eggshells appeared. The second one was larger and occurred just at and near the Creta-ceous-Paleogene (K/T) boundary. The extinction of the dinosaurs spread out within 250 ka with major extinction beginning at the boundary interval. This is even later than their extinction in Montana, North America and in India. The cause of the dinosaur extinction may be the result of a complex multiple events brought about by the coincidence of global environment change marked by multiple Ir and δ 18O anomalies, and environmental poisoning characterized by other trace elements derived from the local source. Successive short- and long-term conditions of geochemically induced environmental stress negatively affected the reproductive process and thus contributed to the extinction of the dinosaurs.ZHAO ZiKui MAO XueYing CHAI ZhiFang YANG GaoChuang ZHANG FuCheng YAN Zheng 2009Chinese Science Bulletin2009,54,5:12
Intestinal lysozyme liberates Nod1 ligands from microbes to direct insulin trafficking in pancreatic beta cells显示文摘Long-range communication between intestinal symbiotic bacteria and extra-intestinal organs can occur through circulating bacterial signal molecules, through neural circuits, or through cytokines or hormones from host cells. Here we report that Nod1 ligands derived from intestinal bacteria act as signal molecules and directly modulate insulin trafficking in pancreatic beta cells. The cytosolic peptidoglycan receptor Nod1 and its downstream adapter Rip2 are required for insulin trafficking in beta cells in a cell-autonomous manner. Mechanistically, upon recognizing cognate ligands, Nod1 and Rip2 localize to insulin vesicles, recruiting Rab1a to direct insulin trafficking through the cytoplasm. Importantly, intestinal lysozyme liberates Nod1 ligands into the circulation, thus enabling long-range communication between intestinal microbes and islets. The intestine-islet crosstalk bridged by Nod1 ligands modulates host glucose tolerance. Our study defines a new type of inter-organ communication based on circulating bacterial signal molecules, which has broad implications for understanding the mutualistic relationship between microbes and host.Qin Zhang Ying Pan Benhua Zeng Xiaojiao Zheng Haifang Wang Xueying Shen Hui Li Qian Jiang Jiaxu Zhao Zhuo-Xian Meng Pingping Li Zhengjun Chen Hong Wei Zhihua Liu 2019Cell Research2019,29,7:11
Integrated resources planning in microgrids considering interruptible loads and shiftable loads显示文摘Demand response has the potential to bring significant benefits to the optimal sizing of distributed generation(DG) resources for microgrids planning. This paper presents an integrated resources planning model considering the impact of interruptible loads(ILs) and shiftable loads(SLs) in microgrids, which simultaneouslydeals with supply side and demand side resources and minimizes the overall planning cost of the microgrid. The proposed model can be applied to offer a quantitative assessment how IL and SL can contribute to microgrid planning. The pure peak clipping model with IL and SL is also provided for comparisons. Moreover, sensitivity analysis of parameters in the model is performed.Numerical results confirm that the proposed model is an effective method for reducing the planning cost of microgrids. It was also found that the major contributing factors of IL and SL have great impact on the economic benefits of the proposed model in low-carbon economy environments.Lan ZHU Xueying ZHOU Xiao-Ping ZHANG Zheng YAN Shuxin GUO Longjun TANG 2018Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy2018,6,4:11
The mutational pattern of homologous recombination(HR)-associated genes and its relevance to the immunotherapeutic response in gastric cancer显示文摘Objective:Currently, there is an urgent need to identify immunotherapeutic biomarkers to increase the benefit of immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICIs)for patients with gastric cancer(GC).Homologous recombination deficiency(HRD)can modify the tumor immune microenvironment by increasing the presence of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes and therefore might serve as a biomarker of immunotherapeutic response. We aimed to analyze the mutational pattern of HR-associated genes in Chinese patients with GC and its relevance to the tumor immune profile and clinical immunotherapeutic response. Methods:A panel of 543 cancer-associated genes was used to analyze genomic profiles in a cohort comprising 484 Chinese patients with GC.Correlations between HR gene mutations and tumor immunity or clinical outcomes were identified via bioinformatic analysis using 2 GC genomic datasets(TCGA and MSK-IMPACT).Results:Fifty-one of the 484(10.54%)patients carried at least one somatic mutation in an HR gene;ATM(16/484,3.31%)was among the most frequently mutated HR genes in the Chinese cohort.Mutations in HR genes were associated with elevated tumor mutational burden, enhanced immune activity, and microsatellite instability status. In the MSK-IMPACT cohort comprising 49 patients with stomach adenocarcinoma or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma treated with ICIs,patients with HR-mut GC(n=12)had significantly better overall survival than those with HR-wt GC(n=37)(log-rank test,P<0.05).Conclusions:Our data suggest that detection of somatic mutations in HR genes might aid in identifying patients who might benefit from immune checkpoint blockade therapy.Yue Fan Haifeng Ying Xueying Wu Huan Chen Ying Hu Henghui Zhang Lijia Wu Ying Yang Beibei Mao Lan Zheng 2020Cancer Biology & Medicine2020,17,4:6
The RppC-AvrRppC NLR-effector interaction mediates the resistance to southern corn rust in maize显示文摘Southern corn rust(SCR),caused by the fungal pathogen Puccinia polysora,is a major threat to maize pro-duction worldwide.Efficient breeding and deployment of resistant hybrids are key to achieving durable control of SCR.Here,we report the molecular cloning and characterization of RppC,which encodes an NLR-type immune receptor and is responsible for a major SCR resistance quantitative trait locus.Further-more,we identified the corresponding avirulence effector,AvrRppC,which is secreted by P.polysora and triggers RppC-mediated resistance.Allelic variation of AvrRppC directly determines the effectiveness of RppC-mediated resistance, indicating that monitoring of AvrRppC variants in the field can guide the rational deployment of RppC-containing hybrids in maize production.Currently,RppC is the most frequently deployed SCR resistance gene in China, and a better understanding of its mode of action is crit-ical for extending its durability.Ce Deng April Leonard James Cahill Meng Lv Yurong Li Shawn Thatcher Xueying Li Xiaodi Zhao Wenjie Du Zheng Li Huimin Li Victor Llaca Kevin Fengler Lisa Marshall Charlotte Harris Girma Tabor Zhimin Li Zhiqiang Tian Qinghua Yang Yanhui Chen Jihua Tang Xintao Wang Junjie Hao Jianbing Yan Zhibing Lai Xiaohong Fei Weibin Song Jinsheng Lai Xuecai Zhang Guoping Shu Yibo Wang Yuxiao Chang Weiling Zhu Wei Xiong Juan Sun Bailin Li Junqiang Ding 2022Molecular Plant2022,15,5:6
Single-cell transcriptomic landscape of human blood cells显示文摘High throughput single-cell RNA-seq has been successfully implemented to dissect the cellular and molecular features underlying hematopoiesis. However,an elaborate and comprehensive transcriptome reference of the whole blood system is lacking. Here,we profiled the transcriptomes of 7551 human blood cells representing 32 immunophenotypic cell types, including hematopoietic stem cells, progenitors and mature blood cells derived from 21 healthy donors. With high sequencing depth and coverage,we constructed a single-cell transcriptional atlas of blood cells(ABC) on the basis of both protein-coding genes and long noncoding RNAs(lncRNAs),and showed a high consistence between them.Notably, putative lncRNAs and transcription factors regulating hematopoietic cell differentiation were identified. While common transcription factor regulatory networks were activated in neutrophils and monocytes, lymphoid cells dramatically changed their regulatory networks during differentiation.Furthermore,we showed a subset of nucleated erythrocytes actively expressing immune signals, suggesting the existence of erythroid precursors with immune functions. Finally,a web portal offering transcriptome browsing and blood cell type prediction has been established. Thus, our work provides a transcriptional map of human blood cells at single-cell resolution, thereby offering a comprehensive reference for the exploration of physiological and pathological hematopoiesis.Xiaowei Xie Mengyao Liu Yawen Zhang Bingrui Wang Caiying Zhu Chenchen Wang Qing Li Yingying Huo Jiaojiao Guo Changlu Xu Linping Hu Aiming Pang Shihui Ma Una Wang Wenbin Cao Shulian Chen Qiuling Li Sudong Zhang Xueying Zhao Wen Zhou Hongbo Luo Guoguang Zheng Erlie Jiang Sizhou Feng Lixiang Chen Lihong Shi Hui Cheng Sha Hao Ping Zhu Tao Cheng 2021National Science Review2021,8,3:3

Bi-functions of titanium and lanthanum co-doping to enhance theelectrochemical performance of spinel LiNi_(0.5)Mn_(1.5)O_(4)cathode显示文摘Spinel LiNi_(0.5)Mn_(1.5)O_(4)(LNMO)cathode material doped with Ti and La co-doping were synthesized through a solid-state method. The bi-functions of the Ti and La co-doping is realized. On the one hand, the stability of the LiNi_(0.5)Mn_(1.5)O_(4)crystal structure is enhanced and the Mn3t interference inside the material is reduced by the Ti doping. On the other hand, the co-doped La contributes to the formation of Li_(0.5)La_(0.5)TiO_(3)(LLTO)superionic conductor incorporated in the bulk LiNi_(0.5)Mn_(1.5)O_(4)phase,thereby enhancing the Li diffusion. With the help of XRD,FTIR,SEM and STEM techniques,La and Ti in the crystallographic structure and the dispersion of the LLTO superionic conductor in the bulk LNMO spinel are discussed. At the optimized molar ratio of 20:1 between LNMO and LLTO,the composite exhibits the best electrochemical performances in terms of the reversible capacity, rate capability and cycling stability. The lithium ion diffusion coefficient in the bulk LNMO phase is tripled by the LLTO superionic conductor incorporation.Xueying Zheng Weijie Liu Qunting Qu Honghe Zheng Yunhui Huang 2019Journal of Materiomics2019,5,2:2
Asymptomatic patients and asymptomatic phases of Coronavirus Disease 2019(COVID-19):a population-based surveillance study显示文摘In this population-based study,we identified 307 confirmed COVID-19 cases from massive surveillance, including 129551 individuals screened at fever clinics or returning from Hubei and 3710 close contacts of confirmed COVID-19 patients.Among them,17 patients were asymptomatic at initial clinical assessment. These asymptomatic patients on admission accounted for a small proportion of all patients(5.54%)with relatively weak transmissibility, and the detection rate was 0.35 per 100 close contacts. Moreover, the dynamics of symptoms of the 307 patients showed that the interval from symptom remission to the final negativity of viral nucleic acid was 5.0 days(interquartile range 2.0 to 11.0 days),with 14 patients(4.56%)having re-detectable viral RNA after discharge.Overall;our findings suggested asymptomatic carriers and presymptomatic patients only accounted for a small proportion of COVID-19 patients. Also, the asymptomatic phase during recovery from COVID-19 implied that negativity in viral RNA is necessary as a de-isolation criterion and follow-up is recommended.Xueying Zheng Sihui Luo Yong Sun Mingfeng Han Jian Liu Liangye Sun Liangming Zhang Ping Ling Yu Ding Tengchuan Jin Zhirong Liu Jianping Weng 2020National Science Review2020,7,10:2
Effects of Calcination Temperature of Boron-Containing Magnesium Oxide Raw Materials on Properties of Magnesium Phosphate Cement as a Biomaterial显示文摘A new magnesium phosphate bone cement(MPBC) was prepared as a byproduct of boroncontaining magnesium oxide(B-MgO) after extracting Li_2CO_3 from salt lakes. We analyzed the elementary composition of the B-MgO raw materials and the effects of calcination temperature on the performance of MPBC. The phase composition and microstructure of the B-MgO raw materials and the hydration products(KMg PO_4·6H_2O) of MPBC were analyzed by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that ionic impurities and the levels of toxic elements were sufficiently low in B-MgO raw materials to meet the medical requirements for Mg O(Chinese Pharmacopeia, 2010 Edition) and for hydroxyapatite surgical implants(GB23101.1-2008). The temperature of B-Mg O calcination had a marked influence on the hydration and hardening of MPBC pastes. Increasing calcination temperature prolonged the time required for the MPBC slurry to set, significantly decreased the hydration temperature, and prolonged the time required to reach the highest hydration temperature. However, the compressive strength of hardened MPBC did not increase with higher calcination temperatures. In the 900-1 000 ℃ temperature range, the hardened MPBC had a higher compressive strength. Imaging analysis suggested that the setting time and the highest hydration temperature of MPBC pastes were dependent on the size and crystal morphology of the B-Mg O materials. The production and microstructure compactness of KMgPO_4·6H_2O, the main hydration product, determined the compressive strength.董金美 余红发 XIAO Xueying LI Ying WU Chengyou WEN Jing TAN Yongshan CHANG Chenggong ZHENG Weixin 2016Journal of Wuhan University of Technology(Materials Science)2016,31,3:2

Computational studies of σ-type weak interactions between NCO/NCS radicals and XY(X = H,Cl;Y = F,Cl,and Br)显示文摘The triatomic radicals NCO and NCS are of interest in atmospheric chemistry, and both the ends of these radicals can potentially serve as electron donors during the formation of σ-type hydrogen/halogen bonds with electron acceptors XY(X = H,Cl;Y = F,Cl,and Br).The geometries of the weakly bonded systems NCO/NCS···XY were determined at the MP2/aug-cc-pVDZ level of calculation. The results obtained indicate that the geometries in which the hydrogen/halogen atom is bonded at the N atom are more stable than those where it is bonded at the O/S atom, and that it is the molecular electrostatic potential(MEP)-not the electronegativity-that determines the stability of the hydrogen/halogen bond. For the same electron donor(N or O/S) in the triatomic radical and the same X atom in XY,the bond strength decreases in the order Y = F > Cl > Br.In the hydrogen/halogen bond formation process for all of the complexes studied in this work, transfer of spin electron density from the electron donor to the electron acceptor is negligible, but spin density rearranges within the triatomic radicals, being transferred to the terminal atom not interacting with XY.LI XiaoYan ZENG YanLi ZHANG XueYing ZHENG ShiJun MENG LingPeng 2012Science China Chemistry2012,55,7:1

Intestinal lysozyme releases Nod2 ligand(s) to promote the intestinal mucosal adjuvant activity of cholera toxin显示文摘Commensal bacteria boost serum IgG production in response to oral immunization with antigen and cholera toxin(CT)in a manner that depends on Nod2(nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-containing protein 2).In this study,we examined the role of intestinal lysozyme(Lyz1)in adjuvant activity of CT.We found that Lyz1 released Nod2 ligand(s)from bacteria.Lyz1 deficiency reduced the level of circulating Nod2 ligand in mice.Lyz1 deficiency also reduced the production of IgG and T-cellspecific cytokines after oral immunization in mice.Supplementing Lyz1-deficient mice with MDP restored IgG production.Furthermore, overexpression of Lyz1 in intestinal epithelium boosted the antigen-specific IgG response induced by CT.Collectively, our results indicate that Lyz1 plays an important role in mediating the immune regulatory effect of commensal bacteria through the release of Nod2 ligand(s).Haifang Wang Xueying Shen Xiaojiao Zheng Ying Pan Qin Zhang Zhihua Liu 2021Science China(Life Sciences)2021,64,10:1
