| 1 | Clinical and biochemical indexes from 2019-nCoV infected patients linked to viral loads and lung injury显示文摘The outbreak of the 2019-nCoV infection began in December 2019 in Wuhan,Hubei province,and rapidly spread to many provinces in China as well as other countries.Here we report the epidemiological,clinical,laboratory,and radiological characteristics,as well as potential biomarkers for predicting disease severity in 2019-nCoV-infected patients in Shenzhen,China.All 12 cases of the 2019-nCoV-infected patients developed pneumonia and half of them developed acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).The most common laboratory abnormalities were hypoalbuminemia,lymphopenia,decreased percentage of lymphocytes (LYM) and neutrophils (NEU),elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH),and decreased CD8 count.The viral load of 2019-nCoV detected from patient respiratory tracts was positively linked to lung disease severity.ALB,LYM,LYM (%),LDH,NEU (%),and CRP were highly correlated to the acute lung injury.Age,viral load,lung injury score,and blood biochemistry indexes,albumin (ALB),CRP,LDH,LYM (%),LYM,and NEU (%),may be predictors of disease severity.Moreover,the Angiotensin Ⅱlevel in the plasma sample from 2019-nCoV infected patients was markedly elevated and linearly associated to viral load and lung injury.Our results suggest a number of potential diagnosis biomarkers and angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) drugs for potential repurposing treatment of 2019-nCoV infection. | Yingxia Liu Yang Yang Cong Zhang Fengming Huang Fuxiang Wang Jing Yuan Zhaoqin Wang Jinxiu Li Jianming Li Cheng Feng Zheng Zhang Lifei Wang Ling Peng Li Chen Yuhao Qin Dandan Zhao Shuguang Tan Lu Yin Jun Xu Congzhao Zhou Chengyu Jiang Lei Liu | 2020 | Science China(Life Sciences)2020,63,3: | 157 |
| 2 | Herbal decoctosome is a novel form of medicine显示文摘Traditionally, herbal medicine is consumed by drinking decoctions produced by boiling herbs with water. The functional components of the decoction are heat stable. Small RNAs(sRNAs) were reported as a new class of functional components in decoctions. However, the mechanisms by which sRNAs survive heat treatment of the decoction and enter cells are unclear.Previous studies showed that plant-derived exosome-like nanoparticles(ELNs), which we call botanosomes, could deliver therapeutic reagents in vivo. Here, we report that heat-stable decoctosomes(ELNs) from decoctions have more therapeutic effects than the decoctions in vitro and demonstrate therapeutic efficacy in vivo. Furthermore, sRNAs, such as HJT-sRNA-m7 and PGY-sRNA-6, in the decoctosome exhibit potent anti-fibrosis and anti-inflammatory effects, respectively. Decoctosome is comprised of lipids, chemical compounds, proteins, and s RNAs. A medical decoctosome mimic is called bencaosome. A single lipid sphinganine(d22:0) identified in the decoctosome was mixed and heated with the synthesized sRNAs to form the simplest bencaosome. This simple bencaosome structure was identified by critical micelle concentration(cmc) assay that sRNAs coassembled with sphinganine(d22:0) to form the lipid layers of vesicles. The heating process facilitates co-assembly of sRNAs and sphinganine(d22:0) until a steady state is reached. The artificially produced sphinganine-HJT-sRNA-m7 and sphinganinePGY-sRNA-6 bencaosomes could ameliorate bleomycin-induced lung fibrosis and poly(I:C)-induced lung inflammation, respectively, following oral administration in mice. | 3 | Large-scale analysis of small RNAs derived from traditional Chinese herbs in human tissues显示文摘Plant-derived microRNAs have recently been reported to function in human blood and tissues. Controversy was immediately raised due to possible contamination and the lack of large sample sizes. Here, we report thousands of unique small RNAs derived from traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) herbs found in human blood cells and mouse lung tissues using a large-scale analysis.We extracted small RNAs from decoctions of 10 TCM plants(Ban Zhi Lian, Chai Hu, Chuan Xin Lian, Di Ding Zi Jin, Huang Qin, Jin Yin Hua, Lian Qiao, Pu Gong Ying, Xia Ku Cao, and Yu Xing Cao) and obtained millions of RNA sequences from each herb. We also obtained RNA-Seq data from the blood cells of humans who consumed herbal decoctions and from the lung tissues of mice administered RNAs from herbal decoctions via oral gavage. We identified thousands of unique small RNA sequences in human blood cells and mouse lung tissues. Some of these identified small RNAs from Chuan Xin Lian and Hong Jing Tian could be mapped to the genomes of the herbs, confirming their TCM plant origin. | 4 | Efficacy and safety of Shaoyang Xibi decoction in patients with knee osteoarthritis:a multi-center,single-blind,randomized controlled trial显示文摘PURPOSE: To observe the efficacy and safety of Shaoyang Xibi decoction(SYXBD) in patients with knee osteoarthritis(KOA), and to verify that the theory of 'Shaoyang dominating bone' in Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) can be applied to KOA treatment.METHODS: Participants were randomly allocated to two groups: SYXBD(treatment group, n = 66)and Meloxicam(control group, n = 66). Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index(WOMAC) and 36-Item Short Form Health Survey(SF-36) were used to assess efficacy before the treatment and 8 weeks after the treatment.RESULTS: Baseline data before the treatment between the two groups were similar. The WOMAC scores significantly decreased and the SF-36 scores significantly increased after 8-week treatment in both groups compared with before the treatment(P < 0.05). SYXBD significantly decreased pain scores(P < 0.001), physical function scores(P <0.001) and the total scores(P < 0.001) in WOMAC compared to Meloxicam. SYXBD significantly improved physical function(P = 0.021), bodily pain(P = 0.002) and general health(P = 0.014), with no significant difference in role emotional(P = 0.053),role physical(P = 0.517), vitality(P = 0.241), social function(P = 0.712) and mental health(P = 0.800)in SF-36 compared to Meloxicam. No adverse events were reported in the treatment group while13 adverse events happened in the control group during the study.CONCLUSION: SYXBD, prepared based on the theory of 'Shaoyang dominating bone', has a better curative efficay and safety in patients with KOA compared with Meloxicam. | 5 | Magnetic manganese-based composites with multiple loss mechanisms towards broadband absorption显示文摘The weak dielectric properties and the lack of magnetic loss of manganese-based absorbers are obstructed as the new generation of electromagnetic wave absorption(EMA)materials applying in microelectronic devices.Herein,the sulfuration and subsequent compounding strategies have been employed to enhance the EMA performance of multi-shell nanosphere-shaped Mn_(2)O_(3)materials.With the narrow bandgap,the as-obtained MnS possesses reinforced electrical conductivity,which is conducive to conductivity loss.More importantly,the presence of potential difference between different phases will form space charge region at the heterogeneous interface,thus favoring interfacial polarization.Additionally,the improvement of magnetic loss is attributed to the presence of Co_(3)O_(4)nanoparticles.Consequently,the composites present enhanced EMA performance than original Mn_(2)O_(3).Specifically,the minimum reflection loss of as-prepared composites is−51.4 dB at the thickness of 1.8 mm and the broad effective absorption bandwidth reaches 6.2 GHz at 1.9 mm.The low matching thickness and high absorption efficiency in this work can provide a convincing reference when designing distinguished manganese-based absorbers. | Yue Liu Zirui Jia Qianqian Zhan Yuhao Dong Qimeng Xu Guanglei Wu | 2022 | Nano Research2022,15,6: | 6 |
| 6 | Elevated plasma levels of selective cytokines in COVID-19 patients reflect viral load and lung injury显示文摘A recent outbreak of pneumonia in Wuhan,China was found to be caused by a 2019 novel coronavirus(2019-nCoV or SARS-CoV-2 or HCoV-19).We previously reported the clinical features of 12 patients with2019-n Co V infections in Shenzhen,China.To further understand the pathogenesis of COVID-19 and find better ways to monitor and treat the disease caused by 2019-n Co V,we measured the levels of 48 cytokines in the blood plasma of those 12 COVID-19 patients.Thirty-eight out of the 48 measured cytokines in the plasma of 2019-n Co V-infected patients were significantly elevated compared to healthy individuals.Seventeen cytokines were linked to 2019-nCoV loads.Fifteen cytokines,namely M-CSF,IL-10,IFN-α2,IL-17,IL-4,IP-10,IL-7,IL-1 ra,G-CSF,IL-12,IFN-γ,IL-1α,IL-2,HGF and PDGF-BB,were strongly associated with the lung-injury Murray score and could be used to predict the disease severity of2019-n Co V infections by calculating the area under the curve of the receiver-operating characteristics.Our results suggest that 2019-nCoV infections trigger extensive changes in a wide array of cytokines,some of which could be potential biomarkers of disease severity of 2019-n Co V infections.These findings will likely improve our understanding of the immunopathologic mechanisms of this emerging disease.Our results also suggest that modulators of cytokine responses may play a therapeutic role in combating the disease once the functions of these elevated cytokines have been characterized. | Yingxia Liu Cong Zhang Fengming Huang Yang Yang Fuxiang Wang Jing Yuan Zheng Zhang Yuhao Qin Xiaoyun Li Dandan Zhao Shunwang Li Shuguang Tan Zhaoqin Wang Jinxiu Li Chenguang Shen Jianming Li Ling Peng Weibo Wu Mengli Cao Li Xing Zhixiang Xu Li Chen Congzhao Zhou William J Liu Lei Liu Chengyu Jiang | 2020 | National Science Review2020,7,6: | 6 |
| 7 | Ultra-flat dispersion in an integrated waveguide with five and six zero-dispersion wavelengths for mid-infrared photonics显示文摘We propose a new type of dispersion flattening technology, which can generate an ultra-flat group velocity dispersion profile with five and six zero-dispersion wavelengths(ZDWs). The dispersion value varies from-0.15 to 0.35 ps/(nm·km) from 4 to 8 μm, which to the best of our knowledge is the flattest one reported so far, and the dispersion flatness is improved by more than an order of magnitude. We explain the principle of producing six ZDWs. Mode distribution in this waveguide is made stable over a wide bandwidth. General guidelines to systematically control the dispersion value, sign, and slope are provided, and one can achieve the desired dispersion by properly adjusting the structural parameters. | 9 | A New Species of the Genus Achalinus from Huangshan, Anhui, China(Squamata: Xenodermidae)显示文摘A new species of the genus Achalinus is described based on five specimens collected from the villages of Huangjialing and Fuxi, Huangshan, Anhui, China. It can be morphologically differentia ted from all the other species in Achalinus except for A. spinalis and A. werneri by the presence of a dotted black streak in the middle of the subcaudal. It can be distinguished from A. spinalis in that its two anterior temporals are in contact with eye, and A. werneri by its light brown flanks. The phylogenetic rela tionship of Achalinus was reconstructed using the mitochondrial locus of cytochrome coxidase subunit 1(CO1). The five new specimens form a monophyletic clade with strong support. The uncorrected p-dista nces between the new species and other representatives of Achalinus range from 13.6% to 21.7%. | 11 | Carbonized wood with ordered channels decorated by NiCo_(2)O_(4) for lightweight and high-performance microwave absorber显示文摘Wood-derived carbon has a 3D porous framework composed of through channels along the growth direction,which is a suitable matrix for preparing electromagnetic wave(EMW)absorbing materials with low cost,light weight,and environmental friendliness.Herein,the carbonized wood decorated by short cone-like NiCo_(2)O_(4)(NiCo_(2)O_(4)@CW)with highly ordered straight-channel architecture was successfully manufactured through a facile calcination procedure.The horizontal arrangement of the through channels of NiCo_(2)O_(4)@CW(H-NiCo_(2)O_(4)@CW)exhibits a strong reflection loss value of-64.0 dB at 10.72 GHz with a thickness of 3.62 mm and a low filling ratio of 26 wt%(with the density of 0.98 g-cnf3),and the effective absorption bandwidth(EAB)is 8.08 GHz(9.92-18.0 GHz)at the thickness of 3.2 mm.The excellent microwave absorption(MA)property was ascribed to the ordered-channel structure with abundant interfaces and defects from NiCo_(2)O_(4)@CW,which could promote the interfacial polarization and dipole polarization.What is more,this advantageous structure increased the multiple reflections and scattering.Finite element analysis(FEA)simulation is carried out to detect the interaction between the prepared material and EMW when the ordered channels are arranged in different directions.This research provides a low-cost,sustainable,and environmentally friendly strategy for using carbonized wood to fabricate microwave absorbers with strong attenuation capabilities and light weight. | Guangyu QIN Xiaoxiao HUANG Xu YAN Yunfei HE Yuhao LIU Long XIA Bo ZHONG | 2022 | Journal of Advanced Ceramics2022,11,1: | 2 |

| 17 | Specific Targeting MRI of Chitosan Oligosaccharide Modified Fe_(3)O_(4) Nanoprobe on Macrophage and the Inhibition of Macrophage Foaming Induced by ox-LDL显示文摘Atherosclerosis(AS)is a primary cause of morbidity and mortality all over the world.Molecular imaging techniques can enable early localization and diagnosis of atherosclerosis plaques.Recent newly developed chitooligosaccharides(CSO)is considered to be capable of target mannose receptors on the surface of macrophages and to inhibit foam cell formation.Here we present a targeting magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)nanoprobe,which was successfully constructed with polyacrylic acid(PAA)modified nanometer iron oxide(Fe_(3)O_(4))as the core,and coating with CSO molecules,possessing the abilities of targeted MRI and specifically inhibition of the formation of foamy macrophages in the atherosclerotic process.The experimental results showed that the distributions of PAA-Fe_(3)O_(4) and CSO-PAA-Fe_(3)O_(4) were uniform and the corresponding sizes were about 5.93 nm and 8.15 nm,respectively.The Fourier transform infrared spectra(FTIR)testified the CSO was coupled with PAA-Fe_(3)O_(4) successfully.After coupled with CSO,the r1 of PAA-Fe_(3)O_(4) was increased from 5.317 mM s-1 to 6.147 mM s-1,indicating their potential as MRI contrast agent.Oil Red O staining and total cholesterols(TC)determination showed that CSO-PAA-Fe_(3)O_(4) could significantly inhibit the foaming process of RAW264.7 cells induced by oxidatively modified low density lipoprotein(ox-LDL).In vitro cellular MRI displayed that,compared with PAA-Fe_(3)O_(4),CSO-PAA-Fe_(3)O_(4) could lower the T1 relaxation time of RAW264.7 cells better.In summary,construction of CSO-PAA-Fe_(3)O_(4) nanoprobe in this study could realize the targeted MRI of macrophages and inhibition of ox-LDL induced macrophage foaming process.This will provide a new avenue in the diagnosis and treatment of AS. | Xu Cao Ke Ma Yuhao Tao Deyang Xi Fangyu Hu Jingjing Li | 2021 | Journal of Advances in Medicine Science2021,4,2: | 1 |
| 18 | Exploration of B-site alloying in partially reducing Pb toxicity and regulating thermodynamic stability and electronic properties of halide perovskites显示文摘Alloying strategies provide a high degree of freedom for reducing lead toxicity,improving thermodynamic stability, tuning the optoelectronic properties of ABX3 halide perovskites by varying the alloying element species and their contents.Given the key role of B-site cations in contributing band edge states and modulating structure factors in halide perovskites,the partial replacement of Pb2+with different B-site metal ions has been proposed.Although several experimental attempts have been made to date,the effect of B-site alloying on the stability and electronic properties of halide perovskites has not been fully explored.Herein,we take cubic CsPbBr3 perovskite as the prototype material and systematically explore the effects of B-site alloying on Pb-containing perovskites.According to the presence or absence of the corresponding perovskite phase,the ten alloying elements investigated are classified into three types(i.e.,Type Ⅰ:Sn Ge,Ca,Sr;Type Ⅱ:Cd,Mg,Mn;Type Ⅲ:Ba,Zn,Cu).Based on the first-principles calculations,we obtain the following conclusions.First,these B-site alloys will exist as disordered solid solutions rather than ordered structures at room temperature throughout the composition space.Second,the alloying of Sn and Ge enhances the thermodynamic stability of the cubic perovskite host,whereas the alloying of the other elements has no remarkable effect on the thermodynamic stability of the cubic perovskite host.Third,the underlying physical mechanism for bandgap tuning can be attributed to the atomic orbital energy mismatch or quantum confinement effect.Fourth,the alloying of different elements demonstrates the diversity in the regulation of crystal structure and electronic properties,indicating potential applications in photovoltaic s and self-trapped exciton-based light-emitting applications.Our work provides theoretical guidance for using alloying strategies to reduce lead toxicity,enhance stability,and optimize the electronic properties of halide perovskites to meet the needs of optoelectronic applications. | Xinjiang Wang Muhammad Faizan Kun Zhou Hongshuai Zou Qiaoling Xu Yuhao Fu Lijun Zhang | 2023 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2023,66,3: | 1 |

| 20 | Sulfur vs. tellurium: the heteroatom effects on the nonfullerene acceptors显示文摘The effect of chalcogen heteroatom variation on donor materials has been systematically investigated. However, this effect on acceptors has rarely been explored. Herein, nonfullerene acceptors BFPSP and BFPTP were reported by simply changing the chalcogen atoms from S to Te. The differences between BFPSP and BFPTP in light absorption, energy levels, excited-state lifetimes, energy loss, charge mobilities, morphology, and photovoltaic properties were systematically investigated to understand the heteroatom effects.
