| 2 | Effectiveness of Jinying capsule on pelvic inflammatory disease in patients with symptom pattern of damp and heat accumulation: a double-blinded, multicenter, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the therapeutic effectiveness and safety of Jinying capsule on pelvic inflammatory disease(PID) in patients with symptoms identified as the pattern of damp and heat accumulation in terms of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM).METHODS: We conducted a double-blinded, multicenter, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial which included 155 patients diagnosed with PID and identified as symptom pattern of damp and heat accumulation. They were randomly divided into experimental group(n = 78) and control group(n = 77) according to a random number table. The treatment lasted for a period of 28 d. The experimental group was given Jinying capsules and oral levofloxacin plus oral metronidazole for first 7 d.They continued with Jinying capsules and levofloxacin placebo and metronidazole placebo for another 7 d. For the remaining 14 d, they continued with Jinying capsules only. Whereas, the control group was treated with oral levofloxacin and metronidazole and Jinying capsule placebo for the first 14 d in the same way as the experimental group and then continued with Jinying capsule placebo only for the remaining 14 d. The clinical efficacy was assessed using McCormack scale, TCM symptom pattern scores, physicochemical indexes including white blood cell and erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C-reaction protein, smear of vaginal discharge,and pelvic ultrasound.RESULTS: Comparing McCormack scale between both groups after treatment, the difference in curative effect between both groups was significant (P = 0.0269). The cure rate of the experimental group and control group is 76.32% and 59.46% respectively at week 4. Comparing TCM symptom pattern scores between both groups before and after treatment, the differences in total effective rate were both significant(P < 0.05). The curative effect rate of experimental group is 2.63% and 13.70% of the control group at week 1(P = 0.0131), and73.33% of the experimental group and 56.94% of the control group at week 4(P = 0.0369). No significant differences were found between the two groups on the Physicochemical indexes(all P >0.05). | 5 | Changes in Physicochemical,Cooking and Sensory Characteristics of Rice Shifted from Low-temperature Storage显示文摘The physicochemical, cooking, and sensory characteristics of stored rice were measured in order to investigate the quality changes in it after low-temperature storage. The quality of the stored rice was compared to that of the rice stored at ambient temperature(20℃, 30%–70% RH) at a 25 d interval during 200 d of storage. The rice was stored in a temperature controller at 4℃ for 3 months and later under a simulated condition similar to that of the main rice consumption areas in China(35℃, 80% RH and 30℃, 70% RH). The results showed that the fatty acid value, b value, and moisture content of rice stored at 35℃, 80% RH and 30℃, 70% RH had increased significantly, whereas its L value had decreased as compared to the rice stored at ambient temperature. Higher temperature storage caused a greater water uptake, whereas the dry mass in the residual cooking water notably reduced under the storage at 35℃ as compared to that at 20℃. Hardness increased and adhesiveness reduced under the storage at 35℃ as compared to that at 20℃. | 10 | Integration of QTL detection and marker assisted selection for improving resistance to Fusarium head blight and important agronomic traits in wheat显示文摘Fusarium head blight(FHB), caused by Fusarium graminearum, is one of the most destructive wheat(Triticum aestivum L.) diseases worldwide. Identification of quantitative trait loci(QTL) conferring FHB resistance followed by marker assisted selection(MAS) is an efficient approach to breed FHB-resistant varieties. In this study, 38 additive QTL and 18 pairs of epistatic QTL for FHB resistance were detected in four environments using a population of recombinant inbred lines(RILs) derived from varieties Neixiang 188 and Yanzhan 1. Six QTL clusters were located on chromosomes 2D, 4B, 4D, 5A, 5D and 7B, suggesting possible polytrophic functions. Six elite lines with good FHB resistance and agronomic traits were selected from the same population using the associated markers. | 12 | A new long-acting GLP-1 derivative KTP ameliorates hyperglycemia and dyslipidemia and improves pancreas and fatty liver in db/db mice显示文摘Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) is a polypeptide incretin hormone that glucose-dependently promotes the secretion and synthesis of insulin. However, its half-life is extremely short. To enhance its half-life, we developed a long-acting GLP-1 derivative KTP with controlled release, designed on the basis of another GLP-1 derivative GP62. The kinetics and bioactivity of KTP were evaluated in Sprague Dawley (SD) rats. Long-term treatment of KTP was performed in db/db mice. Mice were treated twice daily with subcutaneous injections of KTP (1.2 mg/kg body weight), Exendin-4 (0.1 mg/kg body weight) or vehicle (phosphate buffered saline (PBS), pH 7.4) for 60 d. KTP had a longer half-life, as well as further increasing the secretion and production of insulin and reducing blood glucose concentrations, than GP62. | 17 | Bone marrow stromal cell versus neural stem cell transplantation in a C6 glioma rat model显示文摘BACKGROUND: Embryonic neural stem cells (NSCs) have provided positive effects for the treatment of glioma. However, the source for embryonic NSCs remains limited and high amplification conditions are required. Bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) have been proposed for the treatment of glioma. OBJECTIVE: To investigate biological changes in NSCs and BMSCs following transplantation into rat models of glioma. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: A randomized, controlled, animal experiment was performed at the Embryonic Stem Cell Research Laboratory of Yunyang Medical College from February 2006 to August 2008. MATERIALS: The rat C6 glioma cell line was purchased from Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences; mouse anti-bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) monoclonal antibody and Cy3-labeled goat anti-mouse IgG antibody was purchased from Upstate, USA. METHODS: A total of 95 Sprague Dawley rats were randomly assigned to three groups: NSC (n = 35), transplanted with > 6 × 106 NSCs via left medial hind limb; BMSC (n = 35), transplanted with > 1 × 106 BMSCs via left medial hind limb; model group (n = 25), injected with the same volume of 0.1 mmol/L phosphate buffered saline. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Gliomal growth and size were assessed by nuclear magnetic resonance, and glioma morphological features were observed following hematoxylin-eosin staining and BrdU immunohistochemistry 3 and 4 weeks following transplantation. RESULTS: The average survival of rats in the BMSC, NSC, and model groups was 4.03, 4.28, and 3.88 weeks. At 3 weeks, there was no significant difference in the average glioma diameter between the BMSC and model groups (P > 0.05). However, gliomal diameter was significantly decreased in the NSC group compared with the model group (P < 0.05). At 4 weeks, there was no statistical difference between the groups (P > 0.05). BrdU immunohistochemistry revealed that BMSCs and NSCs appeared to migrate to the gliomas. CONCLUSION: NSCs inhibited glioma cell growth and prolonged rat survival.
