3The Status and Associated Factors of Successful Aging among Older Adults Residing in Longevity Areas in China显示文摘Objective This study aims to assess the status of successful aging(SA) in longevity areas in China and explore multiple factors associated with SA among the young-old and oldest-old. Methods A total of 2296 elderly people aged 65 and older were interviewed in the longevity areas sub-sample of the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey(CLHLS) in 2012. Baseline assessments included a researcher-administered questionnaire, physical examination, and laboratory testing. A logistic regression model was used to identify factors associated with SA. Results The prevalence of SA was 38.81% in the CLHLS in 2012. There were significant differences between ages groups, with SA compromising 56.85% among ≥65 years group and 20.31% among ≥100 years group(χtrend2=126.73, P<0.01). The prevalence of SA among females was 33.59%, which was significantly lower than that among males(45.58%)(χ2gender=33.65, P<0.05). In the regression analysis, having anemia(OR=0.744, 95% CI: 0.609-0.910), poor lifestyle(OR=0.697, 95% CI: 0.568-0.854), poor sleep quality(OR=0.558, 95% CI: 0.456-0.682), and central obesity(OR=0.684, 95% CI: 0.556-0.841) were the main factors associated with SA. The promoting SA rate decreased as age increased, and the group of 65-79 years had higher odds than the other age group. 4miR-93-5p Transferred by Exosomes Promotes the Proliferation of Esophageal Cancer Cells via Intercellular Communication by Targeting PTEN显示文摘Objective To investigate the relationship between plasma miR-93-5p and the risk of esophageal cancer, as well as the influence of miR-93-5p on the biological function of esophageal cancer cells,exerted through exosomes.Methods The expression of plasma miR-93-5p in esophageal cancer patients and healthy controls was analysed by real-time quantitative PCR. The influence of miR-93-5p on the risk and prognosis of esophageal carcinoma was analyzed by conditional logistic regression and survival analysis. The effect of miR-93-5p on the biological function of recipient cells was investigated by establishing an in vitro donor cell co-culture model. 5Association of Overlapped and Un-overlapped Comorbidities with COVID-19 Severity and Treatment Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study from Nine Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Several COVID-19 patients have overlapping comorbidities. The independent role of each component contributing to the risk of COVID-19 is unknown, and how some non-cardiometabolic comorbidities affect the risk of COVID-19 remains unclear.Methods A retrospective follow-up design was adopted. A total of 1,160 laboratory-confirmed patients were enrolled from nine provinces in China. Data on comorbidities were obtained from the patients’ medical records. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(95% CI) of the associations between comorbidities(cardiometabolic or non-cardiometabolic diseases), clinical severity, and treatment outcomes of COVID-19.Results Overall, 158(13.6%) patients were diagnosed with severe illness and 32(2.7%) had unfavorable outcomes. Hypertension(2.87, 1.30–6.32), type 2 diabetes(T2 DM)(3.57, 2.32–5.49),cardiovascular disease(CVD)(3.78, 1.81–7.89), fatty liver disease(7.53, 1.96–28.96), hyperlipidemia(2.15, 1.26–3.67), other lung diseases(6.00, 3.01–11.96), and electrolyte imbalance(10.40, 3.00–26.10)were independently linked to increased odds of being severely ill. T2 DM(6.07, 2.89–12.75), CVD(8.47,6.03–11.89), and electrolyte imbalance(19.44, 11.47–32.96) were also strong predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease on admission(5.46,3.25–9.19), while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes(6.58, 1.46–29.64) within two weeks.Conclusion Besides hypertension, diabetes, and CVD, fatty liver disease, hyperlipidemia, other lung diseases, and electrolyte imbalance were independent risk factors for COVID-19 severity and poor treatment outcome. 9Validity of the Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment(PG SGA)in Colorectal Cancer Patients in China显示文摘Objective The patient-generated subjective global assessment(PG-SGA)is a nutritional assessment tool specially designed for cancer patients.This study tested the validity of the PG-SGA for the nutritional assessment of colorectal cancer(CRC)patients in China.Methods A total of 8,093 Chinese patients with any stage CRC were enrolled in this cross-sectional,observational study.Within the first 48 hours of admission,patients were evaluated using the PG-SGA,nutritional risk screening 2002(NRS 2002),Karnofsky Performance Status(KPS),and some anthropometric parameters,including the triceps skinfold thickness(TSF),mid-arm circumference(MAC),mid-arm muscle circumference(MAMC),hand grip strength(HGS),maximum left calf circumference(MLCC),and maximum right calf circumference(MRCC),among others.Spearman’s correlation test was performed to analyze item-total score correlations and correlations between the total PG-SGA score and other parameters or performance scores,further testing convergent validity.The discriminative ability of the PG-SGA was measured by comparing different characteristics between several nutritional groups.A principal component analysis was performed with selected parameters to evaluate the construct validity.Results The average total PG-SGA score of all patients was 5.69±4.46,and they had a median age of 59 years(interquartile range(IQR),51-67 years)and an average body mass index(BMI)of 22.57±3.29 kg/m^(2).The item-total correlations of the total PG-SGA score between the global PG-SGA rating(Spearman,r=0.94)and PG-SGA score(patient-generated)(Spearman,r=0.97)were strong.Significant correlations were also found between the total PG-SGA score and other nutritional screening tools,including the BMI(Spearman,r=-0.26),KPS(Spearman,r=-0.36),and NRS 2002(Spearman,r=-0.47).Well-nourished(41.2%),mildly or moderately malnourished(35.3%)and severely malnourished(23.5%)groups defined according to the PG-SGA had significantly different characteristics.Patients with a worse nutritional status tended to have a decreased BMI(well-nourished,23.32 kg/m^(2)vs.mildly or moderately malnourished,22.52 kg/m^(2)vs.severely malnourished,21.35 kg/m^(2);P<0.001),hemoglobin,body fat mass,muscle mass,protein mass,TSF,MAC,HGS,MAMC,and MLCC,and a dramatically increased C-reactive protein level.The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin measure was>0.7,and the P value of Bartlett’s test of sphericity was<0.001.One component was extracted by the principal component analysis,and the analysis showed that the total PG-SGA score explained the total variances of 97.3%.Conclusion The PG-SGA is a valid tool for evaluating the nutritional status for Chinese CRC patients.Rui Kang Yin Ling Li Fu Ping Chen Zhen Ming Fu Hong Xia Xu Chun Hua Song Ming Hua Cong Han Ping Shi 2021Journal of Nutritional Oncology2021,6,3:3

12Alleviating the crosstalk effect via a fine-moulded light-blocking matrix for colour-converted micro-LED display with a 122% NTSC gamut显示文摘One of the major challenges when fabricating high gamut colour-converted micro-light-emitting diodes(LEDs)displays is severe crosstalk effect among adjacent pixels because of the wide view-angle feature of micro-LED chips.In this study,potential factors that contribute to the crosstalk effect were systematically simulated.We observed that precisely filling the space between each micro-LED chip with a light blocking matrix(LBM)can be a promising solution to alleviate this risk.After careful investigations,a press-assisted moulding technique was demonstrated to be an effective approach of fabricating the LBM.Nevertheless,experimental observations further revealed that residual black LBM on the surface of micro-LEDs severely reduces the brightness,thereby compromising the display performance.This problem was successfully addressed by employing a plasma etching technique to efficiently extract the trapped light.Eventually,a top-emitting blue micro-LED-based backlight fine-moulded with a black LBM was developed and combined with red and green quantum dot colour-conversion layers for full-colour display.The colour gamut of our manufactured display prototype can cover as high as 122%that of the National Television Standards Committee.Yongming Yin Zhiping Hu Muhammad Umair Ali Miao Duan Yongwei Wu Ming Liu Wenxiang Peng Jun Hou Dongze Li Xin Zhang Hong Meng 2022Light(Advanced Manufacturing)2022,3,3:2

16Inferring the invasion mechanisms of the red swamp crayfish in China using mitochondrial DNA sequences显示文摘The red swamp crayfish,Procambarus clarkii,is a native species in north-eastern Mexico and south-central USA.P.clarkii was introduced to China in 1929 and has been used as an aquaculture species in China since 1983.It currently exists in most of the provinces of China,but threatens local fish,crustaceans,aquatic plants and local freshwater ecosystems.We examined the genetic variation in partial mitochondrial ND2 gene of 831 individuals collected from 25 P.clarkii populations in 13 provinces of China to infer the expansion pathways and mechanisms.Six haplotypes were detected.All six haplotypes appeared in four populations in Nanjing and a population located near Nanjing whereas only 1–5 of the six haplotypes were present in other populations.These data suggest that the populations in Nanjing are probably the source of all other populations in China.There were no significant relationships between geographic distances and genetic distances in 25 populations,whereas significant relationship was found in four populations in Qinhuai River covering 50 km in Nanjing.These data suggest that the expansion mainly be human-mediated in large scale,and active disposal or non-anthropogenic passive dispersal might have played an important role in expansion at a smaller scale.In some places far away from Nanjing,several haplotypes existed,suggested multiple introduction events may have happened.Although aquaculture of this species could bring huge economic benefit,its potential to negatively affect native biota and entire ecosystems should not be ignored.Gen Hua Yue Jian-Bin Feng Jun Hong Xia Su Yin Cao Chun Ming Wang 2021Aquaculture and Fisheries2021,6,1:2
17Association of TCF7L2 and GCG Gene Variants with Insulin Secretion,Insulin Resistance,and Obesity in New-onset Diabetes显示文摘This cohort study was designed to evaluate the association of transcription factor 7-like 2 (TCF7L2) and proglucagon gene (GCG) variants with disordered glucose metabolism and the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in a rural adult Chinese population. A total of 7,751 non-T2DM participants ≥18 years old genotyped at baseline were recruited. The same questionnaire interview and physical and blood biochemical examinations were performed at both baseline and follow-up. During a median 6 years of follow-up, T2DM developed in 227 participants. After adjustment for potential contributory factors, nominally significant associations were seen between TT genotype and the recessive model of TCF7L2 rs7903146 and increased risk of T2DM [hazard ratio (HR)=4.068, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.270-13.026; HR=4.051, 95% CI: 1.268-12.946, respectively]. The TT genotype of rs7903146 was also significantly associated with higher fasting plasma insulin level and the homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance in case of new-onset diabetes. 18A joint call for actions to advance taxonomy in China显示文摘Taxonomy plays an important role in understanding the origin, evolution, and ecological functionality of biodiversity. There are large number of unknown species yet to be described by taxonomists, which together with their ecosystem services cannot be effectively protected prior to description. Despite this, taxonomy has been increasingly underrated insufficient funds and permanent positions to retain young talents. Further, the impact factordriven evaluation systems in China exacerbate this downward trend, so alternative evaluation metrics are urgently necessary. When the current generation of outstanding taxonomists retires,there will be too few remaining taxonomists left to train the next generation.
