Characteristics, sources and health risks assessment of VOCs in Zhengzhou,China during haze pollution season显示文摘Zhengzhou is one of the most haze-polluted cities in Central China with high organic carbon emission, which accounts for 15%-20%of particulate matter(PM_(2.5))in winter and causes significantly adverse health effects.Volatile organic compounds(VOCs)are the precursors of secondary PM_(2.5)and O_(3)formation.An investigation of characteristics, sources and health risks assessment of VOCs was carried out at the urban area of Zhengzhou from 1^(st) to 31^(st) December,2019.The mean concentrations of total detected VOCs were 48.8±23.0 ppbv.Alkanes(22.0±10.4 ppbv),halocarbons(8.1±3.9 ppbv)and aromatics(6.5±3.9 ppbv)were the predominant VOC species, followed by alkenes(5.1±3.3 ppbv),oxygenated VOCs(3.6±1.8 ppbv),alkyne(3.5±1.9,ppbv)and sulfide(0.5±0.9 ppbv). The Positive Matrix Factorization model was used to identify and apportion VOCs sources.Five major sources of VOCs were identified as vehicular exhaust, industrial processes, combustion, fuel evaporation, and solvent use.The carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risk values of species were calculated. The carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks of almost all air toxics increased during haze days. The total non-carcinogenic risks exceeded the acceptable ranges. Most VOC species posed no non-carcinogenic risk during three haze events. The carcinogenic risks of chloroform,1,2-dichloroethane,1,2-dibromoethane,benzyl chloride,hexachloro-1,3-butadiene,benzene and naphthalene were above the acceptable level(1.0×10^(-6))but below the tolerable risk level(1.0×10^(-4)).Industrial emission was the major contributor to non-carcinogenic,and solvent use was the major contributor to carcinogenic risks.Dong Zhang Bing He Minghao Yuan Shijie Yu Shasha Yin Ruiqin Zhang 2021Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,10:10

Primary assessment of the diversity of Omicron sublineages and the epidemiologic features of autumn/winter 2022 COVID-19 wave in Chinese mainland显示文摘With the recent ongoing autumn/winter 2022 COVID-19 wave and the adjustment of public health control measures, there have been widespread SARS-CoV-2 infections in Chinese mainland. Here we have analyzed 369 viral genomes from recently diagnosed COVID-19 patients in Shanghai, identifying a large number of sublineages of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron family.Phylogenetic analysis, coupled with contact history tracing, revealed simultaneous community transmission of two Omicron sublineages dominating the infections in some areas of China(BA.5.2 mainly in Guangzhou and Shanghai, and BF.7 mainly in Beijing)and two highly infectious sublineages recently imported from abroad(XBB and BQ.1).Publicly available data from August 31 to November 29,2022 indicated an overall severe/critical case rate of 0.035%nationwide,while analysis of 5706 symptomatic patients treated at the Shanghai Public Health Center between September 1 and December 26,2022 showed that 20 cases(0.35%)without comorbidities progressed into severe/critical conditions and 153 cases(2.68%)with COVID-19-exacerbated comorbidities progressed into severe/critical conditions. These observations shall alert healthcare providers to place more resources for the treatment of severe/critical cases.Furthermore, mathematical modeling predicts this autumn/winter wave might pass through major cities in China by the end of the year, whereas some middle and western provinces and rural areas would be hit by the upcoming infection wave in mid-to-late January 2023,and the duration and magnitude of upcoming outbreak could be dramatically enhanced by the extensive travels during the Spring Festival(January 21,2023).Altogether,these preliminary data highlight the needs to allocate resources to early diagnosis and effective treatment of severe cases and the protection of vulnerable population, especially in the rural areas,to ensure the country’s smooth exit from the ongoing pandemic and accelerate socio-economic recovery.Gang Lu Yun Ling Minghao Jiang Yun Tan Dong Wei Lu Jiang Shuting Yu Fangying Jiang Shuai Wang Yao Dai Jinzeng Wang Geng Wu Xinxin Zhang Guoyu Meng Shengyue Wang Feng Liu Xiaohong Fan Saijuan Chen 2023Frontiers of Medicine2023,17,4:1
High-resolution assessment of retrogressive thaw slump susceptibility in the Qinghai-Tibet Engineering Corridor显示文摘Under the rapidly warming climate in the Arctic and high mountain areas, permafrost is thawing, leading to various hazards at a global scale. One common permafrost hazard termed retrogressive thaw slump(RTS)occurs extensively in ice-rich permafrost areas.Understanding the spatial and temporal distributive features of RTSs in a changing climate is crucial to assessing the damage to infrastructure and decision-making.To this end,we used a machine learning-based model to investigate the environmental factors that could lead to RTS occurrence and create a susceptibility map for RTS along the Qinghai-Tibet Engineering Corridor(QTEC)at a local scale. The results indicate that extreme summer climate events(e.g.,maximum air temperature and rainfall)contributes the most to the RTS occurrence over the flat areas with fine-grained soils. The model predicts that 13%(ca.22,948 km^(2))of the QTEC falls into high to very high susceptibility categories under the current climate over the permafrost areas with mean annual ground temperature at 10 m depth ranging from-3 to-1℃.This study provides insights into the impacts of permafrost thaw on the stability of landscape, carbon stock, and infrastructure, and the results are of value for engineering planning and maintenance.GuoAn Yin Jing Luo FuJun Niu MingHao Liu ZeYong Gao TianChun Dong WeiHeng Ni 2023Research in Cold and Arid Regions2023,15,6:0
Feasibility and physics potential of detecting ^(8)B solar neutrinos at JUNO显示文摘The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory(JUNO)features a 20 kt multi-purpose underground liquid scintillator sphere as its main detector. Some of JUNO's features make it an excellent location for^8B solar neutrino measurements, such as its low-energy threshold, high energy resolution compared with water Cherenkov detectors, and much larger target mass compared with previous liquid scintillator detectors. In this paper,we present a comprehensive assessment of JUNO's potential for detecting^8B solar neutrinos via the neutrino-electron elastic scattering process.A reduced 2 MeV threshold for the recoil electron energy is found to be achievable, assuming that the intrinsic radioactive background^(238)U and^(232)Th in the liquid scintillator can be controlled to 10^(-17)g/g.With ten years of data acquisition, approximately 60,000 signal and 30,000 background events are expected. This large sample will enable an examination of the distortion of the recoil electron spectrum that is dominated by the neutrino flavor transformation in the dense solar matter, which will shed new light on the inconsistency between the measured electron spectra and the predictions of the standard three-flavor neutrino oscillation framework.IfDelta m^(2)_(21)=4.8times10^(-5);(7.5times10^(-5))eV^(2),JUNO can provide evidence of neutrino oscillation in the Earth at approximately the 3sigma(2sigma)level by measuring the non-zero signal rate variation with respect to the solar zenith angle. Moreover,JUNO can simultaneously measureDelta m^2_(21)using^8B solar neutrinos to a precision of 20% or better, depending on the central value, and to sub-percent precision using reactor antineutrinos.A comparison of these two measurements from the same detector will help understand the current mild inconsistency between the value of Delta m^2_(21)reported by solar neutrino experiments and the KamLAND experiment.Angel Abusleme Thomas Adam Shakeel Ahmad Sebastiano Aiello Muhammad Akram Nawab Ali Fengpeng An Guangpeng An Qi An Giuseppe Andronico Nikolay Anfimov Vito Antonelli Tatiana Antoshkina Burin 6DNA crosslinking and recombination-activating genes 1/2(RAG1/2)are required for oncogenic splicing in acute lymphoblastic leukemia显示文摘Background:Abnormal alternative splicing is frequently associated with carcinogenesis. In B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia(B-ALL),double homeobox 4 fused with immunoglobulin heavy chain(DUX4/IGH)can lead to the aberrant production of E-26 transformation-specific family related gene abnormal transcript(ERGalt)and other splicing variants. However, the molecular mechanism underpinning this process remains elusive. Here,we aimed to know how DUX4/IGH triggers abnormal splicing in leukemia. Methods:The differential intron retention analysis was conducted to identify novel DUX4/IGH-driven splicing in B-ALL patients.X-ray crystallography, small angle X-ray scattering(SAXS),and analytical ultracentrifugation were used to investigate how DUX4/IGH recognize double DUX4 responsive element(DRE)-DRE sites. The ERGalt biogenesis and B-cell differentiation assays were performed to characterize the DUX4/IGH crosslinking activity. To check whether recombination-activating gene 1/2(RAG1/2)was required for DUX4/IGH-driven splicing, the proximity ligation assay,co-immunoprecipitation,mammalian two hybrid characterizations,in vitro RAG1/2 cleavage, and shRNA knock-down assays were performed. Results:We reported previously unrecognized intron retention events in Ctype lectin domain family 12,member A abnormal transcript(CLEC12Aalt)and chromosome 6 open reading frame 89 abnormal transcript(C6orf89alt),where also harbored repetitive DRE-DRE sites.Supportively,X-ray crystallography and SAXS characterization revealed that DUX4 homeobox domain(HD)1-HD2 might dimerize into a dumbbell-shape trans configuration to crosslink two adjacent DRE sites.Impaired DUX4/IGH-mediated crosslinking abolishes ERGalt,CLEC12Aalt,and C6orf89alt biogenesis, resulting in marked alleviation of its inhibitory effect on B-cell differentiation.Furthermore,we also observed a rare RAG1/2-mediated recombination signal sequence-like DNA edition in DUX4/IGH target genes.Supportively,shRNA knock-down of RAG1/2 in leukemic Reh cells consistently impaired the biogenesis of ERGalt,CLEC12Aalt,and C6orf89alt.Conclusions:All these results suggest that DUX4/IGH-driven DNA crosslinking is required for RAG1/2 recruitment onto the double tandem DRE-DRE sites, catalyzing V(D)J-like recombination and oncogenic splicing in acute lymphoblastic leukemia.Hao Zhang Nuo Cheng Zhihui Li Ling Bai Chengli Fang Yuwen Li Weina Zhang Xue Dong Minghao Jiang Yang Liang Sujiang Zhang Jianqing Mi Jiang Zhu Yu Zhang Sai-Juan Chen Yajie Zhao Xiang-Qin Weng Weiguo Hu Zhu Chen Jinyan Huang Guoyu Meng 2021Cancer Communications2021,41,11:0
Simultaneous splenectomy improving the outcomes of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, cirrhosis and portal hypertension treated with hepatectomy显示文摘Aims:Patients with cirrhosis and clinically significant portal hypertension(CSPH)usually have concomitant secondary hypersplenism, and splenectomy(Spx)is an option for treating these patients in the Asia‐Pacific region.CSPH is the most important risk factor for postoperative liver dysfunction(PLD)in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)and cirrhosis undergoing liver resection. However, the impact of simultaneous Spx and hepatectomy in patients with HCC and CSPH remains unclear. In this study,we aimed to determine the impact of simultaneous Spx on the posthepatectomy outcomes in these patients. Methods:This study included 691 consecutive patients with hepatitis B virusrelated HCC,cirrhosis, and CSPH.These included 565 patients who underwent hepatectomy only(non‐Spx group)and 126 who underwent simultaneous hepatectomy and splenectomy(Spx group). We analyzed the effect of 25 preoperative and 5 intraoperative factors on postoperative outcomes using logistic regression. To overcome any possible selection bias, confounders were balanced by propensity score matching(PSM)and inverse probability of treatment weighting(IPTW)analyses, and subgroup analyses were performed within the PSM‐matched groups. Results:Logistic regression analyses revealed that Spx was an independent protective factor for severe postoperative liver dysfunction(SPLD;odds ratio[OR]=0.22,95%confidence interval[CI]:0.11–0.43,p<0.001)and 90‐day SPLD‐related mortality(OR=0.21,95%CI:0.06–0.55,p=0.004),respectively.Spx was also independently associated with a higher overall survival rate(hazard ratio=0.63,95%CI=0.47–0.85,p=0.002)based on Cox regression analysis.PSM and IPTW models showed that the benefit of Spx was also consistent across the major and minor hepatectomy subgroups examined. Conclusion:Simultaneous Spx improved the outcomes of patients with HCC,cirrhosis, and CSPH treated with hepatectomy, including patients who underwent major and minor hepatectomies.Fuchen Liu Xinggang Guo Wenli Zhang Minghao Zou Jian Huang Wei Dong Jinmin Zhang Xiuli Zhu Zeya Pan Wan Yee Lau Weiping Zhou Hui Liu 2022Portal Hypertension & Cirrhosis2022,1,2:0
Early stage of radiological expertise modulates resting-state local coherence in the inferior temporal lobe显示文摘Background The visual system and its inherent functions undergo experience-dependent changes through the lifespan, enabling acquisition of new skills.Previous fMRI studies using tasks reported increased specialization in a number of cortical regions subserving visual expertise.Although ample studies focused on representation of long-term visual expertise in the brain,i.e.in terms of year,monthly-based early-stage representation of visual expertise remains unstudied.Given that spontaneous neuronal oscillations actively encode previous experience,we propose brain representations in the resting state is fundamentally important. Objective The current study aimed to investigate how monthly-based early-stage visual expertise are represented in the resting state using the expertise model of radiologists. Methods In particular,we investigated the altered local clustering pattern of spontaneous brain activity using regional homogeneity(ReHo).A cohort group of radiology interns(n=22)after one-month training in X-ray department and matched laypersons(n=22)were recruited after rigorous behavioral assessment. Results The results showed higher ReHo in the right hippocampus(HIP)and the right ventral anterior temporal lobe(vATL)(corrected by Alphasim correction,P<0.05).Moreover,ReHo in the right HIP correlated with the number of cases reviewed during intern radiologists’training(corrected by Alphasim correction,P<0.05).Conclusions In sum,our results demonstrated that the early stage of visual expertise is more concerned with stabilizing visual feature and domain-specific knowledge into long-term memory. The results provided novel evidence regarding how early-stage visual expertise is represented in the resting brain, which help further elaborate how human visual expertise is acquired. We propose that our current study may provide novel ideas for developing new training protocols in medical schools.Minghao Dong Peiming Zhang Weilu Chai Xiaoyan Zhang Bihong TChen Hongmei Wang Jia Wu Chao Chen Yi Niu Jimin Liang Guangming Shi Chenwang Jin 2022Psychoradiology2022,2,4:0
Growing curly graphene layer boosts hard carbon with superior sodium-ion storage显示文摘Benefiting from the distinctive ordering degree and local microstructure characteristics, hard carbon(HC)is considered as the most promising anode for sodium-ion batteries(SIBs).Unfortunately, the low initial Coulombic efficiency(ICE)and limited reversible capacity severely impede its extensive application. Here,a homogeneous curly graphene(CG)layer with a micropore structure on HC is designed and executed by a simple chemical vapor deposition method(without catalysts).CG not only improves the electronic/ionic conductivity of the hard carbon but also effectively shields its surface defects, enhancing its ICE.In particular, due to the spontaneous curling structural characteristics of CG sheets(CGs),the micropores(≤2 nm)formed provide additional active sites, increasing its capacity. When used as a sodium-ion battery anode, the HC-CG composite anode displayed an outstanding reversible capacity of 358 mAh·g^(-1),superior ICE of 88.6%,remarkable rate performance of 145.8 mAh·g^(-1)at 5 A·g^(-1),and long cycling life after 1000 cycles with 88.6%at 1 A·g^(-1).This work provides a simple defect/microstructure turning strategy for hard carbon anodes and deepens the understanding of Na+storage behavior in the plateau region, especially on the pore-filling mechanism by forming quasi-metallic clusters.Minghao Song Qiang Song Tao Zhang Xiaomei Huo Zezhou Lin Zhaowen Hu Lei Dong Ting Jin Chao Shen Keyu Xie 2023Nano Research2023,16,7:0
The bright star survey telescope for the planetary transit survey in Antarctica显示文摘Transiting extrasolar planets(exoplanets),especially those orbiting bright stars, are desired for study of the diversity of planetary compositions, internal structures and atmospheres beyond our solar system. Dome A at Antarctica is a promising site for planetary transit surveys, where the continuous darkness and the large clear-sky fraction in the winter months greatly enhance the detection efficiency. The Chinese Small Telescope ARray and the Antarctic Survey Telescopes are the first facilities that have been operated at Dome A for use in exoplanet surveys. To increase the sky coverage, a low-temperature-resistant wide-field robotic telescope, named the bright star survey telescope(BSST), has been developed to join the ongoing planetary transit survey in Antarctica. The BSST has an aperture size of 300 mm and is equipped with a largeframe 4K×4K CCD camera to receive starlight from a 3.°4×3.°4 field of view. The BSST was operated at Lijiang observatory in April and May 2015 for a test run.Photometric precision of 3.5 mmag was achieved for stars with V~11 mag using 75 s exposures. The transiting events of two Jupiter-size exoplanets, HAT-P-3b and HATP-12 b, were observed on May 10 and May 20, 2015,respectively.Qiguo Tian Peng Jiang Fujia Du Jian Wang Zhengyang Li Xiaoyan Li Zhiyong Zhang Haiping Lu Xiangyan Yuan Huigen Liu Hui Zhang Luming Sun Liang Chang Jianguo Wang Shaohua Zhang Tuo Ji Xiheng Shi Jie Chen Guangyu Zhang Minghao Jia Jiajing Liu Junyan Zhou Xiang Pan Shucheng Dong Fengxin Jiang Hongfei Zhang Jilin Zhou Lifan Wang Hongyan Zhou 2016Science Bulletin2016,61,5:0
