2Responses to climate warming of hydrological processes in the upper Kelan River in the Altay Mountains, Xinjiang, China显示文摘Kelan River is a branch of the Ertix River, originating in the Altay Mountains in Xinjiang, northwestern China. The upper streams of the Kelan River are located on the southern slope of the Altay Mountains; they arise from small glacial lakes at an elevation of more than 2,500 m. The total water-collection area of the studied basin, from 988 to 3,480 m, is about 1,655 km2. Almost 95 percent of the basin area is covered with snow in winter. The westerly air masses deplete nearly all the moisture that comes in the form of snow during the winter months in the upper and middle reaches of the basin. That annual flow from the basin is about 382 mm, about 45 percent of which is contributed by snowmelt. The mean annual precipitation in the basin is about 620 mm, which is primarily concentrated in the upper and middle basin. The Kelan River system could be vulnerable to climate change because of substantial contribution from snowmelt runoff. The hydrological system could be altered significantly because of a warming of the climate. The impact of climate change on the hydrological cycle and events would pose an additional threat to the Altay region. The Kelan River, a typical snow-dominated watershed, has more area at higher elevations and accumulates snow during the winter. The peak flow occurs as a result of snow-melting during the late spring or early summer. Stream flow varies strongly throughout the year because of seasonal cycles of precipitation, snowpack, temperature, and groundwater. Changes in the temperature and precipitation affect the timing and volume of stream-flow. The stream-flow consists of contributions from meltwater of snow and ice and from runoff of rainfall. Therefore, it has low flow in winter, high flow during the spring and early summer as the snowpack melts, and less flows during the late summer. Because of the warming of the current climate change, hydrology processes of the Kelan River have undergone marked changes, as evidenced by the shift of the maximum flood peak discharge from May to June; the largest monthly runoffs also have an increment of about 15 percent related to before 1980; April-June runoff increased from the 60 percent of the annual runoff before 1980 to nearly 70 percent after 1990. The long-term trend shows temperature and precipitation increased mainly in the winter, but the rainfall declined in summer; hydrological process is manifested by the rising runoff in May and decreasing in June. Warming and the increase of winter and spring snowcover would lead to increased snowmelt, increasing the spring-flood hazards and the maximum flood discharge with disastrous consequences. 4Investigation of spherical and concentric mechanism of compound droplets显示文摘Polymer shells with high sphericity and uniform wall thickness are always needed in the inertial confined fusion(ICF)experiments.Driven by the need to control the shape of water-in-oil(W1/O)compound droplets,the effects of the density matching level,the interfacial tension and the rotation speed of the continuing fluid field on the sphericity and wall thickness uniformity of the resulting polymer shells were investigated and the spherical and concentric mechanisms were also discussed.The centering of W1/O compound droplets,the location and movement of W1/O compound droplets in the external phase(W2)were significantly affected by the density matching level of the key stage and the rotation speed of the continuing fluid field.Therefore,by optimizing the density matching level and rotation speed,the batch yield of polystyrene(PS)shells with high sphericity and uniform wall thickness increased.Moreover,the sphericity also increased by raising the oil/water(O/W2)interfacial tension,which drove a droplet to be spherical.The experimental results show that the spherical driving force is from the interfacial tension affected by the two relative phases,while the concentric driving force,as a resultant force,is not only affected by the three phases,but also by the continuing fluid field.The understanding of spherical and concentric mechanism can provide some guidance for preparing polymer shells with high sphericity and uniform wall thickness.Meifang Liu Lin Su Jie Li Sufen Chen Yiyang Liu Jing Li Bo Li Yongping Chen Zhanwen Zhang 2016Matter and Radiation at Extremes2016,1,4:2
5The mobilization of rat’s mesenchymal stem cells into peripheral blood by LiCL and its potency differentiation显示文摘Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent cells, which can differentiate into different tissues. It is still controversial whether MSCs can be isolated from adult peripheral blood (PB) under normal conditions and whether they can be mobilized in a way similar to that of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). In this study, rat MSCs circulating in the PB under normal conditions can be isolated and cultured, and MSCs from PB and BM can be mobilized by LiCL. The mobilized MSCs can be induced to differentiate into neuron by such factors as β-mercaptoethanol and supernatants of nerve cell cultures. 12Analyzing the Effectiveness of Policy Implementation at the Local Level: A Case Study of Management of the 2009–2010 Drought in Yunnan Province, China显示文摘Several research efforts have focused primarily on policy implementation and improving innovative actions to address disaster risks. Discussions are ongoing on how to measure the effectiveness of policy implementation at the local level. But there is no definitive theory of effective policy implementation, and very few frameworks have been found acceptable as the basis of an analysis of the effectiveness of policy implementation, especially on droughts. Based on the 2009–2010 extreme drought in Yunnan, China, this article presents a modified framework to assess the effectiveness of policy implementation by defining policy, practice, and performance, as well as a feedback loop by which to share the lessons learned. Water conservancy projects in Luliang County and the agricultural diversity program in Longyang County in Yunnan Province were analyzed from a farmers' perspective. It was found that farmers are highly dependent on government policies and projects, and the effectiveness of policies is measured by short-term, immediate, and tangible benefits rather than long-term adaptation strategies. 19Characteristics of Liver Functions in Patients With COVID-19 and Construction of a Prognostic Evaluation Decision Model Based on Liver Functions显示文摘A number of studies have suggested that coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)can cause liver damage.However,clinical features and outcome of COVID-19 in patients with liver injury remain to be further investigated.In this study,the clinical data of 265 COVID-19 patients admitted to seven tertiary hospitals were collected.Based on a threshold for transaminase or total bilirubin levels at two times the normal upper limit,patients were divided into mild or moderate/severe liver injury groups.Among the 265 patients,183 patients showed liver injury within 48 hours of admission.Aspartate aminotransferase levels were predominantly elevated in the liver injury group,but albumin levels were reduced.Moreover,fibrinogen and D-dimer were significantly increased.Furthermore,68%of the patients with moderate/severe liver injury had one or more underlying diseases.Almost half of these patients developed acute respiratory distress syndrome(44%)and secondary infections(46%).These patients showed increased interleukin-6 and interleukin-10 levels and a decrease in PaO2 and the oxygenation index.In addition,levels of alanine aminotransferase,aspartate aminotransferase,and albumin were correlated with the oxygenation index,D-dimer and lymphocyte counts.Furthermore,a novel prognostic assessment model based on liver function was established,which accuracy reached 88%and was able to accurately assess the prognosis of COVID-19 patients.Tongtong Pan Dazhi Chen Chenwei Pan Yi Kang Junping Liu Feifei Su Liang Hong Huili Li Hui Zhao Zhuo Lin Xiaodong Wang Hongwei Lin Qianjing Du Chao Cai Yongping Chen 2020Infectious Microbes & Diseases2020,2,4:1
