| 1 | Rapid growth cost in “all-fish” growth hormone gene transgenic carp:Reduced critical swimming speed显示文摘Evidence has accumulated that there is a trade-off between benefits and costs associated with rapid growth. A trade-off between growth rates and critical swimming speed (Ucrit) had been also reported to be common in teleost fish. We hypothesize that growth acceleration in the F3 generation of 'all-fish' growth hormone gene (GH) transgenic common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) would reduce the swimming abilities. Growth and swimming performance between transgenic fish and non-transgenic controls were compared. The results showed that transgenic fish had a mean body weight 1.4―1.9-fold heavier,and a mean specific growth rate (SGR) value 6%―10% higher than the controls. Transgenic fish,however,had a mean absolute Ucrit (cm/s) value 22% or mean relative Ucrit (BL/s) value 24% lower than the controls. It suggested that fast-growing 'all-fish' GH-transgenic carp were inferior swimmers. | 3 | Acute and chronic un-ionized ammonia toxicity to ‘all-fish’ growth hormone transgenic common carp(Cyprinus carpio L.)显示文摘Ammonia is toxic to fish in natural and artificial waters.We evaluated the acute(96 h) and chronic(21 d) toxicity of un-ionized ammonia to GH transgenic common carp(Cyprinus carpio L.) and non-transgenic common carp using a static-renewal bioassay.The 24,48,72 and 96 h median lethal concentrations(LC50) of un-ionized ammonia were slightly lower in transgenic carp(2.64,2.44,2.28 and 2.16 mg N/L,respectively) than in non-transgenic carp(2.70,2.64,2.52 and 2.33 mg N/L,respectively).Similarly,the median lethal time(LT50) was significantly shorter for transgenic carp(1.41,7.91 and 117.42 h) than for non-transgenic common carp(2.53,14.06 and 150.44 h) following exposure to 3.86,3.29,or 2.09 mg N/L,respectively.Moreover,the mortality of transgenic carp was significantly higher than that of non-transgenic carp at all un-ionized ammonia concentrations((0.91 ± 0.12),(0.48 ± 0.06) and(0.12 ± 0.01) mg N/L) during the 21 d chronic toxicity test.Our results suggest that GH transgenic carp are less tolerant of unionized ammonia than non-transgenic carp.Our data are useful for evaluating potential environmental risk,optimizing stocking density in intensive aquaculture and establishing water quality criteria for ammonia in aquaculture. | GUAN Bo HU Wei ZHANG TangLin DUAN Ming LI DeLiang WANG YaPing ZHU ZuoYan | 2010 | Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,35: | 4 |
| 4 | Study on Anti-infection Effect of Polysaccharide from Agaricus blazei Murrill on Mice显示文摘In order to study the anti-infection effect of phoshporylated Agaricus blazei polysaccharide on mice,mice were drenched phoshporylated A. blazei polysaccharide for 14 d,and an A. blazei polysaccharide control group and a blank control group were also set. The mice in all the three groups were infected with Escherichia coli on the 15^(th)day and the 29^(th)day of the experiment,the body weight of the mice in each group was recorded,as well as the spleen index on the 29^(th)day of infection and the 36^(th)day of the experiment,and the anti-E. coli titer in serum was also detected. The results showed that phoshporylated A. blazei polysaccharide could promote and maintain the development of spleen,and improve the immune response of organisms,thereby resisting bacterial infection. | 5 | Suppressing Al2O3 nanoparticle coarsening and Cu nanograin growth of milled nanostructured Cu-5vol.%Al2O3 composite powder particles by doping with Ti显示文摘Both the coarsening of Al_2O_3 nanoparticles and the growth of Cu nanograins of mechanically milled nanostructured Cu-5 vol.%Al_2O_3 composites with, and without, trace amounts of Ti during annealing at973 K for 1 h were investigated. It was found that doping with a small amount of Ti(e.g. 0.2 wt%) in a nanostructured Cu-5 vol.%Al_2O_3 composite effectively suppressed the coarsening of Al_2O_3 nanoparticles during exposure at this temperature. Further, the Ti addition also prevented the concomitant abnormal growth of the copper grains normally caused by the coarsening of the Al_2O_3 nanoparticles. | 11 | Distribution and bioavailability of mercury in size-fractioned atmospheric particles around an ultra-low emission power plant in Southwest China显示文摘Ultra-low emission(ULE)technology retrofits significantly impact the particulate-bound mercury(Hg)emissions from coal-fired power plants(CFPPs);however,the distribution and bioavailability of Hg in size-fractioned particulate matter(PM)around the ULE-retrofitted CF-PPs are less understood.Here,total Hg and its chemical speciation in TSP(total suspended particles),PM_(10)(aerodynamic particle diameter≤10μm)and PM_(2.5)(aerodynamic particle diameter≤2.5μm)around a ULE-retrofitted CFPP in Guizhou Province were quantified.Atmospheric PM_(2.5)concentration was higher around this ULE-retrofitted CFPP than that in the intra-regional urban cities,and it had higher mass Hg concentration than other sizefractioned PM.Total Hg concentrations in PM had multifarious sources including CFPP,vehicle exhaust and biomass combustion,while they were significantly higher in autumn and winter than those in other seasons(P<0.05).Regardless of particulate size,atmospheric PM-bound Hg had lower residual fractions(<21%)while higher HCl-soluble fractions(>40%).Mass concentrations of exchangeable,HCl-soluble,elemental,and residual Hg in PM_(2.5)were higher than those in other size-fractioned PM,and were markedly elevated in autumn and winter(P<0.05).In PM_(2.5),HCl-soluble Hg presented a significantly positive relationship with elemental Hg(P<0.05),while residual Hg showed the significantly positive relationships with HCl-soluble Hg and elemental Hg(P<0.01).Overall,these results suggested that atmospheric PM-bound Hg around the ULE-retrofitted CFPP tends to accumulate in finer PM,and has higher bioavailable fractions,while has potential transformation between chemical speciation. | Wei Zhang Jinjuan Li Hao Qiu Xingqiang Guo Zhijun Fei Yi Xing Deliang Yin | 2024 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2024,,4: | 0 |
