Isolated Cases of Plague--Inner Mongolia-Beijing, 2019显示文摘What is already known about this topic?Plague is an acute infectious disease caused by Yersinia pestis(Y.pestis)and is primarily transmitted by rodents.Human can be infected by bites of bacterium-bearing fleas or direct contact with diseased or dead plagueinfected animals. In 2004,the last human plague case was reported in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region due to skinning a dead hare. What is added by this report? This is the first case of pneumonic plague imported into a major city since the founding of the People's Republic of China. Two primary pneumonic plague cases(Patients A and B)found in residents of Inner Mongolia were confirmed in Beijing on November 12,2019.Another case(Patient C)of Y.pestis was identified as bubonic plague on November 14.Patient A most likely became infected from aerosol exposure to infective droplets while digging on his farm, located in an Meriones unguiculatus(M.unguiculatus)natural plague focus.Patient B became infected from contact with Patient A(her husband).Patient C became infected after skinning a dead hare. There was no epidemiological relationship between the Patient A/B and Patient C.What are the implications for public health practice? When epizootic plague is detected, local health-care providers and the public should be alerted about any possible risks.Public education efforts should focus on promoting personal protection measures. | Yumeng Wang Lei Zhou Mengguang Fan Quanyi Wang Jianyun Li Qun Li Zijian Feng George FGao Cheng Xu Lijuan Chen Wei Li Yanping Zhang | 2019 | China CDC weekly2019,1,1: | 13
Insight-HXMT observations of the first binary neutron star merger GW170817显示文摘Finding the electromagnetic(EM) counterpart of binary compact star merger, especially the binary neutron star(BNS) merger,is critically important for gravitational wave(GW) astronomy, cosmology and fundamental physics. On Aug. 17, 2017,Advanced LIGO and Fermi/GBM independently triggered the first BNS merger, GW170817, and its high energy EM counterpart,GRB 170817 A, respectively, resulting in a global observation campaign covering gamma-ray, X-ray, UV, optical, IR, radio as well as neutrinos. The High Energy X-ray telescope(HE) onboard Insight-HXMT(Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope) is the unique high-energy gamma-ray telescope that monitored the entire GW localization area and especially the optical counterpart(SSS17 a/AT2017 gfo) with very large collection area(~1000 cm^2) and microsecond time resolution in 0.2-5 MeV. In addition,Insight-HXMT quickly implemented a Target of Opportunity(ToO) observation to scan the GW localization area for potential X-ray emission from the GW source. Although Insight-HXMT did not detect any significant high energy(0.2-5 MeV) radiation from GW170817, its observation helped to confirm the unexpected weak and soft nature of GRB 170817 A. Meanwhile,Insight-HXMT/HE provides one of the most stringent constraints(~10^(-7) to 10^(-6) erg/cm^2/s) for both GRB170817 A and any other possible precursor or extended emissions in 0.2-5 MeV, which help us to better understand the properties of EM radiation from this BNS merger. Therefore the observation of Insight-HXMT constitutes an important chapter in the full context of multi-wavelength and multi-messenger observation of this historical GW event. | TiPei Li ShaoLin Xiong ShuangNan Zhang FangJun Lu LiMing Song XueLei Cao Zhi Chang Gang Chen Li Chen TianXiang Chen Yong Chen YiBao Chen YuPeng Chen Wei Cui WeiWei Cui JingKang Deng YongWei Dong YuanYuan Du MinXue Fu GuanHua Gao He Gao Min Gao MingYu Ge YuDong Gu Ju Guan ChengCheng Guo DaWei Han Wei Hu Yue Huang Jia Huo ShuMei Jia LuHua Jiang WeiChun Jiang Jing Jin YongJie Jin Bing Li ChengKui Li Gang Li MaoShun Li Wei Li Xian Li XiaoBo Li XuFang Li YanGuo Li ZiJian Li ZhengWei Li XiaoHua Liang JinYuan Liao CongZhan Liu GuoQing Liu HongWei Liu ShaoZhen Liu XiaoJing Liu Yuan Liu YiNong Liu Bo Lu XueFeng Lu Tao Luo Xiang Ma Bin Meng Yi Nang JianYin Nie Ge OU JinLu Qu Na Sai Liang Sun Yin Tan Lian Tao WenHui Tao YouLi Tuo GuoFeng Wang HuanYu Wang Juan Wang WenShuai Wang YuSa Wang XiangYang Wen BoBing WU Mei Wu GuangCheng Xiao He Xu YuPeng Xu LinLi Yan JiaWei Yang Sheng Yang YanJi Yang AiMei Zhang ChunLei Zhang ChengMo Zhang Fan Zhang HongMei Zhang Juan Zhang Qiang Zhang Shu Zhang Tong Zhang Wei Zhang WanChang Zhang WenZhao Zhang Yi Zhang Yue Zhang YiFei Zhang YongJie Zhang Zhao Zhang ZiLiang Zhang HaiSheng Zhao JianLing Zhao XiaoFan Zhao ShiJie Zheng Yue Zhu YuXuan Zhu ChangLin Zou | 2018 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2018,61,3: | 12

Proteasomal deubiquitinase UCH37 inhibits degradation of β-catenin and promotes cell proliferation and motility显示文摘The ubiquitin–proteasome system degrades most cellular proteins in eukaryotes.UCH37,also known as UCH-L5,is a deubiquitinase binding to Rpn13,a receptor for ubiquitinated substrates in the 26 S proteasome. But,it remains unclear how UCH37 influences the proteasomal degradation of the ubiquitinated substrates.Because deletion of UCH37 is embryonically lethal in mice, this study aims to investigate the role of UCH37 in proteasomal degradation by constructing the UCH37-deficient cell lines using CRISPR/Cas9 technology. Our results demonstrated that deletion of UCH37 decreased the levels of proteasomal Rpn13,implying that UCH37 might facilitate incorporation of Rpn13 into the proteasome.Meanwhile, deletion of UCH37 decreased the levels of β-catenin and the early endosomal protein Rab8.β-Catenin interacts with TCF/LEF to control transcription, and is involved in development, tissue homeostasis and tumorigenesis. We further found that deletion of UCH37 increased the levels of the ubiquitinated β-catenin and accelerated the hydrogen peroxide-stimulated degradation of β-catenin.Deletion of UCH37 also down-regulated the transcription of c-Myc,a downstream effector of β-catenin,and inhibited cell proliferation and motility. These results raise the possibility that UCH37 maintains the homeostasis of proteasomal degradation reciprocally by assisting the recruitment of the ubiquitin receptor Rpn13 into the proteasome and by reversing ubiquitination of certain critical substrates of the 26 S proteasome. | Zijian Li Luming Zhou Tianxia Jiang Libin Fan Xiaoying Liu Xiaobo Qiu | 2019 | Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2019,51,3: | 4
Detection and Initial Response to a Type 2 Vaccine-Derived Poliovirus—Sichuan Province,China,2019显示文摘What is already known about this topic? After the type 2 strain of the live, attenuated poliovirus vaccine was withdrawn globally in 2016,any identification of a type 2 poliovirus is a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.A vaccinederived type 2 poliovirus(VDPV2)was identified in Sichuan, prompting an urgent, comprehensive investigation and response. What is added by this report?Type 2 monovalent, live, attenuated oral poliovirus vaccine(mOPV2)is being used to respond to the numerous VDPV2 outbreaks seen around the world. In contrast, the response in Sichuan used Sabin strain inactivated poliovirus(sIPV)to stop circulation of the VDPV2.In the 6 months following the vaccination response, there have been no VDPV2s detected in Sichuan, despite extensive search. What are the implications for public health practices?Further search for the VDPV2 must continue in order to determine whether transmission has been stopped. The ongoing investigation and response to the Sichuan VDPV2 is providing evidence to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative on managing VDPV2 outbreaks. | Jiushun Zhou Ning Wen Yong Zhang Qi Qi Chunxiang Fan Dongmei Yan Xiaoping Zhu Lixin Hao Shuangli Zhu Yu Liu Xiaozhen Ma Chao Ma Lei Nan Yong Chen Qianli Ma Cheng Wang Kun Deng Lei Cao Ge Shao Xianxiang Ding Hong Yang Zhijie An Lance ERodewald Aiqiang Xu Huaqing Wang Zijian Feng Zundong Yin Xianping Wu Wenbo Xu | 2020 | China CDC weekly2020,2,11: | 3

Identification of A-to-I RNA editing profiles and their clinical relevance in lung adenocarcinoma显示文摘Adenosine-to-inosine(A-to-I)RNA editing is a widespread posttranscriptional modification that has been shown to play an important role in tumorigenesis. Here,we evaluated a total of 19,316 RNA editing sites in the tissues of 80 lung adenocarcinoma(LUAD)patients from our Nanjing Lung Cancer Cohort(NJLCC)and 486 LUAD patients from the TCGA database. The global RNA editing level was significantly increased in tumor tissues and was highly heterogeneous across patients. The high RNA editing level in tumors was attributed to both RNA(ADAR1 expression)and DNA alterations(mutation load).Consensus clustering on RNA editing sites revealed a new molecular subtype(EC3)that was associated with the poorest prognosis of LUAD patients.Importantly, the new classification was independent of classic molecular subtypes based on gene expression or DNA methylation. We further proposed a simplified model including eight RNA editing sites to accurately distinguish the EC3 subtype in our patients. The model was further validated in the TCGA dataset and had an area under the curve(AUC)of the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.93(95%CI:0.91-0.95).In addition,we found that LUAD cell lines with the EC3 subtype were sensitive to four chemotherapy drugs. These findings highlighted the importance of RNA editing events in the tumorigenesis of LUAD and provided insight into the application of RNA editing in the molecular subtyping and clinical treatment of cancer. | Cheng Wang Mingtao Huang Congcong Chen Yuancheng Li Na Qin Zijian Ma Jingyi Fan Linnan Gong Hui Zeng Liu Yang Xianfeng Xu Jun Zhou Juncheng Dai Guangfu Jin Zhibin Hu Hongxia Ma Fengwei Tan Hongbing Shen | 2022 | Science China(Life Sciences)2022,65,1: | 1
Intraspecific variation in microhabitat selection in reintroduced Chinese giant salamanders显示文摘Reintroduction of captive-bred Chinese giant salamanders is a primary approach for restoring wild populations.Despite previous studies have investigated the habitat preferences of reintroduced Chinese giant salamanders, the intraspecific variation in their habitat selection has been neglected. In the present study,30 captive-bred Chinese giant salamanders belonging to 3 groups(i.e.,10 males,10 females, and 10 juveniles)were released into a montane stream to explore whether intraspecific variation in habitat selection occurred in this species using radiotelemetry. Our results indicated that linear home range and daily movement of males were significantly higher than those of females and juveniles.Male sedentariness was significantly lower than that of females and juveniles. No significant differences were detected between females and juveniles in these measures.Importantly,we found that males preferred microhabitats with low water conductivity and deep water depth.Females preferred microhabitats with high water conductivity, low dissolved oxygen and ammonium-nitrogen,and slow current velocity, while juveniles occupied microhabitats with low ammonium-nitrogen.In addition, males and juveniles exhibited higher niche breadth than females.Niche overlap was high between adults and juveniles but low between males and females. Our study revealed the presence of spatial segregation in reintroduced Chinese giant salamanders.Males, females, and juveniles exhibited variation in microhabitat selection. These results provide important information for use when planning strategies for conservation of Chinese giant salamanders. | Chunlin Zhao Jianyi Feng Zijian Sun Wei Zhu Jiang Chang Wenbo Fan Jianping Jiang Bisong Yue Tian Zhao | 2023 | Current Zoology2023,69,2: | 0
Changes of Relevant Indexes of Photosynthetic Pigment and Nitrogen Metabolism in Leaves of Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat. ‘Huaibai' after TAV-free显示文摘[Objective]The paper was to explore effects of Tomato aspermy virus(TAV)-free on chlorophyll content and nitrogen metabolism of Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat. ‘Huaibai',in order to provide a theoretical basis for field popularization and application of TAV-free‘Huai bai'plantlets. [Method]With previously acquired TAV-free test-tube plantlets of‘Huaibai'as the experimental materials and its ordinary test-tube plantlets as the control(CK),chlorophyll content and some indexes related to nitrogen metabolism in leaves were determined during subculture.[Result]During subculture, the contents of chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b in leaves of CK and TAV-free‘Huaibai'test-tube plantlets increased with the subculture days. Both realized the largest increase at the 22^(th) day of subculture, and their increase amplitudes were 5. 24% and 41. 69%,respectively. Compared with CK,the chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b contents of TAV-free test-tube plantlets increased at the same time point of subculture, with significant difference(P < 0. 05) or extremely significant difference(P<0. 01). Furthermore, the nitrate reductase(NR) activity, free proline and soluble protein contents of TAV-free‘Huaibai'were all significantly higher than those of CK,and the highest increase amplitudes were 27. 99%(subculture for 22 d),28. 10%(subculture for 22 d) and 5. 89%(subculture for 38 d),respectively.[Conclusion]TAV-free could effectively improve chlorophyll content and nitrogen metabolism level of‘Huaibai',and was conducive to its growth and development. | Zhao Xiting Liu Ke Zhu Yuting Wang Zhaoyang Zhou Yingyuan Fan Zijian Jiang Liwei Li Mingjun | 2016 | Plant Diseases and Pests2016,7,4: | 0
Targeting cancer cell plasticity by HDAC inhibition to reverse EBV-induced dedifferentiation in nasopharyngeal carcinoma显示文摘Application of differentiation therapy targeting cellular plasticity for the treatment of solid malignancies has been lagging.Nasopharyngeal carci noma(NPC)is a distinctive cancer with poor differe ntiatio n and high prevalenee of Epstein-Barr virus(EBV)infection. Here,we show that the expressi on of EBV latent protein LMP1 in duces dediffere ntiated and stem-like status with high plasticity through the transcriptional inhibition of CEBPA.Mechanistically,LMP1 upregulates STAT5A and recruits HDAC 1/2 to the CEBPA locus to reduce its histone acetylation.HDAC inhibition restored CEBPA expression, reversing cellular dedifferentiation and stem-like status in mouse xeno graft models. These fin dings provide a novel mecha nistic epigenetic-based in sight into virus-induced cellular plasticity and propose a promising concept of differentiation therapy in solid tumor by using HDAC inhibitors to target cellular plasticity. | Jiajun Xie Zifeng Wang Wenjun Fan Youping Liu Fang Liu Xiangbo Wan Meiling Liu Xuan Wang Deshun Zeng Van Wang Bin He Min Yan Zijian Zhang Mengjuan Zhang Zhijie Hou Chunli Wang Zhijie Kang Wenfeng Fang Li Zhang Eric W-F Lam Xiang Guo Jinsong Yan Yixin Zeng Mingyuan Chen Quentin Liu | 2021 | Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2021,6,10: | 0

Extensive sequence divergence between the reference genomes of Taraxacum kok-saghyz and Taraxacum mongolicum显示文摘Plants belonging to the genus Taraxacum are widespread all over the world, which contain rubber-producing and non-rubberproducing species. However, the genomic basis underlying natural rubber(NR)biosynthesis still needs more investigation. Here,we presented high-quality genome assemblies of rubber-producing T.kok-saghyz TK1151 and non-rubber-producing T.mongolicum TM5.Comparative analyses uncovered a large number of genetic variations, including inversions,translocations,presence/absence variations,as well as considerable protein divergences between the two species. Two gene duplication events were found in these two Taraxacum species, including one common ancestral whole-genome triplication and one subsequent round of gene amplification. In genomes of both TK1151 and TM5,we identified the genes encoding for each step in the NR biosynthesis pathway and found that the SRPP and CPT gene families have experienced a more obvious expansion in TK1151 compared to TM5.This study will have large-ranging implications for the mechanism of NR biosynthesis and genetic improvement of NR-producing crops. | Tao Lin Xia Xu Huilong Du Xiuli Fan Qingwen Chen Chunyan Hai Zijian Zhou Xiao Su Liquan Kou Qiang Gao Lingwei Deng Jinsheng Jiang Hanli You Yihua Ma Zhukuan Cheng Guodong Wang Chengzhi Liang Guomin Zhang Hong Yu Jiayang Li | 2022 | Science China(Life Sciences)2022,65,3: | 0
Detecting gravitational wave with an interferometric seismometer array on lunar nearside显示文摘Our Moon is by far the easiest natural, extraterrestrial celestial object for us to reach, and many space agencies, in particular the China National Space Administration, have publicized plans for manned missions there. Such high-profile projects must yield commensurate scientific outputs to justify their cost to the taxpayers. An important criterion for the selection of candidate experiments is the extent to which the Moon plays an integral and irreplaceable role, as opposed to offering only marginal advantages over Earth-orbit, space-based alternatives. In this study, we propose an experiment that excels in this regard, which considers the Moon as part of the experimental apparatus. Specifically, the Moon acts as a Weber bar-style resonant mass that responds to deci-Hertz gravitational waves(GWs). GW-excited lunar vibrations can be picked up by an array of(prefabricated on Earth and easy to transport to the Moon) small laser interferometric seismometers yielding GW detection. Such a setup would plug a gap in the GW frequency range already covered by the existing or underdevelopment detectors, and it can inform us on important astrophysics topics, such as the progenitors of Type Ia supernovae(SNe Ia) or intermediate mass black holes. | 16 | Advanced two-dimensional materials toward polysulfides regulation of metal-sulfur batteries显示文摘Metal-sulfur battery, which provides considerable high energy density at a low cost,is an appealing energy-storage technology for future long-range electric vehicles and large-scale power grids. One major challenge of metal-sulfur batteries is their long-term cycling stability, which is significantly deteriorated by the generation of various soluble polysulfide intermediates and the shuttling of these intermediates through the separator.Furthermore, the intrinsically sluggish reaction kinetics associated with the poor conductivity of sulfur/sulfides family causes a large polarization in cycle behavior, which further deteriorates the electrode rechargeability. To solve these problems, the research communities have spent a great amount of effort on designing smart cathodes to delicately tailor the physiochemical interaction between the sulfur hosts and polysulfides. Here,we summarize the key progress in the development of two-dimensional(2D)host materials showing advantageous tunability of their physiochemical properties through coordination control methods such as defect engineering, heteroatom doping, heterostructure, and phase and interface engineering.Accordingly,we discuss the mechanisms of polysulfide anchoring and catalyzing upon specific coordination environment in conjunction with possible structure-property relationships and theoretical analysis. This review will provide prospective fundamental guidance for future sulfur host design and beyond. | Haining Fan Wenbin Luo Shixue Dou Zijian Zheng | 2023 | SmartMat2023,4,5: | 0
