| 1 | Photosynthesis of Populus euphratica and its response to elevated CO_2 concentration in an arid environment显示文摘The photosynthetic characterization of Populus euphratica and its response to the elevated carbon dioxide concentration ([CO2]) were analyzed based on its net photosynthetic rate (Pn), stomatal conductance (gs), intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci), transpiration rate (Tr), and water use effciency (WUE) at different groundwater depths measured by a portable gas exchange system (LI-6400) in the lower reaches of the Tarim River. The results showed that the elevation of [CO2] decreased the gs, and increased the Pn, Ci and WUE of P. euphratica. However, the effects of the elevated [CO2] on gs, Pn, Ci and WUE varied considerably with groundwater depth. The response of photosynthesis to rising [CO2] was stronger at the greater groundwater depth (more than 6 m) than that at the shallower groundwater depth (less than 6 m). The critical groundwater depth required to maintain the normal survival of P. euphratica was less than 6 m. | 7 | Water transport and water use efficiency differ among Populus euphratica Oliv. saplings exposed to saline water irrigation显示文摘Populus euphratica Oliv.is a unique woody tree that can be utilized for vegetation restoration in arid and semi-arid areas.The effects of saline water irrigation(0.00, 2.93, 8.78 and 17.55 g/L NaCl solutions) on water transport and water use efficiency(WUE) of P.euphratica saplings were researched for improving the survival of P.euphratica saplings and vegetation restoration in arid and semi-arid areas of Xinjiang, China in 2011.Results showed that hydraulic conductivity and vulnerability to cavitation of P.euphratica saplings were more sensitive in root xylem than in twig xylem when irrigation water salinity increased.Irrigation with saline water concentration less than 8.78 g/L did not affect the growth of P.euphratica saplings, under which they maintained normal water transport in twig xylem through adjustment of anatomical structure of vessels and kept higher WUE and photosynthesis in leaves through adjustment of stomata.However, irrigation with saline water concentration up to 17.55 g/L severely inhibited the photochemical process and WUE of P.euphratica saplings, resulting in severe water-deficit in leaves and a sharp reduction in water transport in xylem.Thus, it is feasible to irrigate P.euphratica forest by using saline groundwater for improving the survival of P.euphratica saplings and vegetation restoration in arid and semi-arid areas of Xinjiang, China. | ZHOU Honghua CHEN Yaning ZHU Chenggang YANG Yuhai YE Zhaoxia | 2019 | Journal of Arid Land2019,11,6: | 0 |
| 8 | Combinatorial analysis of transcription and metabolism reveals the regulatory network associated with antioxidant substances in waxy corn显示文摘Maize is an essential source of nutrition for humans and animals and is rich in various metabolites that determine its quality.Different maize varieties show significant differences in metabolite content.Two kinds of waxy maize parental materials,S181 and 49B,created by the Chongqing Academy of Agricultural Sciences,are widely grown in China.S181 shows higher starch and sugar contents than 49B.This study generated metabolic profiles to assess the differences between the two varieties.A total of 674 metabolites that were significantly differentially expressed between the two varieties were identified by gas chromatography and untargeted metabolomics technology.These metabolites were associated with 21 categories,including antioxidant metabolites.Moreover,6415 differentially expressed genes(DEGs)were identified by RNA-seq.Interestingly,these DEGs comprised starch and sugar synthesis pathway genes and 72 different transcription factor families.Among these,six families that were reported to play an essential role in plant antioxidant action accounted for 39.2%of the transcription factor families.Using the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG)classification,the DEGs were mainly involved in amino acid biosynthesis,glycolysis/glucose metabolism,and the synthetic and metabolic pathways of antioxidant active substances.Furthermore,the correlation analysis of transcriptome and metabolomics identified five key transcription factors(ZmbHLH172,ZmNAC44,ZmNAC-like18,ZmS1FA2,ZmERF172),one ubiquitin ligase gene(ZmE25A)and one sucrose synthase gene(ZmSS1).They likely contribute to the quality traits of waxy corn through involvement in the metabolic regulatory network of antioxidant substances.Thus,our results provide new insights into maize quality-related antioxidant metabolite networks and have potential applications for waxy corn breeding. | Jianhong Ke Rui Wang Bangqian Song Jinglun Du Xiaojiao Li Ningning Song Zhirong Cai Rongli Chen Honghua Yi Xiangyin Lu Chen Jiang Zhengguo Li Baowen Huang | 2022 | Food Quality and Safety2022,6,4: | 0 |

| 11 | The Inhibitory Effects of PSS-Loaded Nanoparticles on the Dysfunction of Cardiac Microvascular Endothelia in Rats with Diabetic Cardiomyopathy显示文摘Propylene glycol alginate sodium sulfate-loaded nanoparticles(PSS-NP) has been shown potential to prevent the microvascular endothelial injuries caused by diabetic cardiomyopathy(DCM). In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of PSS-NP on the dysfunction of cardiac microvascular endothelia in streptozotocin(STZ)-induced DCM rat model. Echocardiographic measurements showed a significant improvement of cardiac function in the PSS-NP-treated group. Our results revealed that the abnormalities of cardiac systolic and diastolic functions were suppressed by the treatments of prostaglandin E1(PGE1), low molecular weight heparin(LMWH), PSS and PSS-NP. Our comparison analysis indicated that PSS-NP showed the strongest inhibitory effects on microvascular endothelial injuries. Transmission electron microscopy analysis demonstrated that PSS-NP protected the cardiac microvascular endothelium and further improved endothelium dysfunction in DCM rats. ELISA and Western blot assays further showed a high efficiency of improving cardiac microvascular endothelial dysfunction with PSS-NP. Our results demonstrated that PSS-NP increased the protein expression of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3K)-p85 and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)-A, and the phosphorylation of protein kinase B(Akt) and endothelial nitric oxide synthase(eNOS), which were involved in the amelioration of cardiac microvascular endothelial dysfunction. We first propose three principles that the future Internet architecture should obey to be well-defined network architecture, i.e. supporting service innovation and enabling evolvability. By abstracting different modes from TCP/IP network and SDN technology, we argue that the centric-distributed-centric(CDC) mode has great potential for the well-defined future network architecture in which diverse network architectures could be incrementally deployed and coexist with each other. | 15 | Degeneration of foundation cushion species induced by ecological constraints can cause massive changes in alpine plant communities显示文摘Foundational cushion plants can re-organize community structures and sustain a prominent proportion of alpine biodiversity,but they are sensitive to climate change.The loss of cushion species can have broad consequences for associated biota.The potential plant community changes with the population dynamics of cushion plants remain,however,unclear.Using eight plant communities along a climatic and community successional gradient,we assessed cushion population dynamics,the underlying ecological constraints and hence associated plant community changes in alpine communities dominated by the foundational cushion plant Arenaria polytrichoides.The population dynamics of Arenaria are attributed to ecological constraints at a series of life history stages.Reproductive functions are constrained by increasing associated beneficiary plants;subsequent seedling establishment is constrained by temperature,water and light availability,extreme climate events,and interspecific competition;strong competitive exclusion may accelerate mortality and degeneration of cushion populations.Along with cushion dynamics,species composition,abundance and community structure gradually change.Once cushion plants completely degenerate,previously cushion-dominated communities shift to relatively stable communities that are overwhelmingly dominated by sedges.Climate warming may accelerate the degeneration process of A.polytrichoides.Degeneration of this foundational cushion plant will possibly induce massive changes in alpine plant communities and hence ecosystem functions in alpine ecosystems.The assessment of the population dynamics of foundation species is critical for an effective conservation of alpine biodiversity. | Jianguo Chen Xufang Chen Lishen Qian Yazhou Zhang Bo Li Honghua Shi Lu Sun Christian Schöb Hang Sun | 2024 | Science China(Life Sciences)2024,67,4: | 0 |
| 16 | Effects of soil fauna on leaf litter decomposition under different land uses in eastern coast of China显示文摘Soil fauna decompose litter, whereas land use changes may significantly alter the composition and structure of soil fauna assemblages.However, little is known of the effects of land-use on the contribution of soil fauna to litter decomposition.We studied the impacts of soil fauna on the decomposition of litter from poplar trees under three different land uses(i.e.poplar-crop integrated system, poplar plantation, and cropland), from December2013 to December 2014, in a coastal area of Northern Jiangsu Province.We collected litter samples in litterbags with three mesh sizes(5, 1 and 0.01 mm, respectively) to quantify the contribution of various soil fauna to the decomposition of poplar leaf litter.Litter decomposition rates differed significantly by land use and were highest in the cropland, intermediate in the poplar-crop integrated system, and lowest in the poplar plantation.Soil fauna in the poplar-crop integrated system was characterized by the highest numbers of taxa and individuals, and highest Margalef's diversity, which suggested that agro-forestry ecosystems may support a greater quantity, distribution,and biodiversity of soil fauna than can single-species agriculture or plantation forestry.The individuals and groups of soil fauna in the macro-mesh litterbags were higher than in the meso-mesh litterbags under-the same land use types.The average contribution rate of meso-and micro-fauna to litter decomposition was18.46%, which was higher than the contribution rate of macro-fauna(3.31%).The percentage of remaining litter mass was inversely related to the density of the soil fauna(P < 0.05) in poplar plantations; however, was unrelated in the poplar-crop integrated system and cropland.This may have been the result of anthropogenic interference in poplar-crop integrated systems and croplands.Our study suggested that when land-use change alters vegetation types, it can affect species composition and the structure of soil fauna assemblages, which, in turn, affects litter decomposition. | Baoling Yang Wenwen Zhang Hanmei Xu Shaojun Wang Xia Xu Huan Fan Han Y. The results showed that wind speed was below 2 m/s when fog occurred,and wind velocity reduced obviously before visibility deceased,appearing a trough. Fog appeared when temperature was nearly the minimum,and there was no great change in wind speed,but visibility went up gradually after temperature rose. The longer the duration of the minimum temperature,the longer the duration of the minimum visibility.
