1Annual cost of illness of stomach and esophageal cancer patientsin urban and rural areas in China: A multi-center study显示文摘Objective: Stomach and esophageal cancer are imposing huge threats to the health of Chinese people whereas there were few studies on the financial burden of the two cancers.Methods: Costs per hospitalization of all patients with stomach or esophageal cancer discharged between September 2015 and August 2016 in seven cities/counties in China were collected, together with their demographic information and clinical details. Former patients in the same hospitals were sampled to collect information on annual direct non-medical cost, indirect costs and annual number of hospitalization. Annual direct medical cost was obtained by multiplying cost per hospitalization by annual number of hospitalization. Annual cost of illness(ACI)was obtained by adding the average value of annual direct medical cost, direct non-medical cost and indirect cost,stratified by sex, age, clinical stage, therapy and pathologic type in urban and rural areas. Costs per hospitalization were itemized into eight parts to calculate the proportion of each part. All costs were converted to 2016 US dollars(1 USD=6.6423 RMB).Results: Totally 19,986 cases were included, predominately male. Mean ages of stomach cancer and urban patients were lower than that of esophageal cancer and rural patients. ACI of stomach and esophageal cancer patients were $10,449 and $13,029 in urban areas, and $2,927 and $3,504 in rural areas, respectively. Greater ACI was associated with male, non-elderly patients as well as those who were in stage I and underwent surgeries.Western medicine fee took the largest proportion of cost per hospitalization.Conclusions: The ACI of stomach and esophageal cancer was tremendous and varied substantially among the population in China. 2Evaluating efficacy of screening for upper gastrointestinal cancer in China:a study protocol for a randomized controlled trial显示文摘Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and feasibility of screening procedure for upper gastrointestinal cancer in both high-risk and non-high-risk areas in China.Setting: Seven cities/counties, representing three economical-geographical regions(Eastern, Central and Western) in China, were selected as screening centers: three in high-risk areas and four in non-high-risk areas.Participants: Villages/communities in these seven centers regarded as clusters were randomly assigned to either intervention group(screening by endoscopic examination) or control group(with normal community care) in a 1:1ratio stratified by each center. Eligible participants are local residents aged 40–69 years in the selected villages/communities with no history of cancer or endoscopic examination in the latest 3 years who are mentally and physically competent. Those who are not willing to take endoscopic examination or are unwilling to sign the consent form are excluded from the study. Totally 140,000 participants will be enrolled.Interventions: In high-risk areas of upper gastrointestinal cancer, all subjects in screening group will be screened by endoscopy. In non-high-risk areas, 30% of the subjects in screening group, identified through a survey,will be screened by endoscopy.Primary and secondary outcome measures: The primary outcome is the mortality caused by upper gastrointestinal cancer. The secondary outcomes include detection rate, incidence rate, survival rate, and clinical stage distribution. Additional data on quality of life and cost-effectiveness will also be collected to answer important questions regarding screening effects.Conclusions: Screening strategy evaluated in those areas with positive findings may be promoted nationally and applied to the majority of Chinese people. 4Effect of different pruning operations on the plant growth,phytohormones and transcriptome profiles of the following spring tea shoots显示文摘Pruning as an important agronomic operation plays a crucial role in the regulation of tea plant growth,development and dry tea quality.The effects of different pruning operations on the plant growth,phytohormones and transcriptome profiles of the following spring tea shoots were studied.Pruning-treated samples had generally increased median of the weight of 100 buds(two leaves and one bud,15.5−20.5 g)and longer stem diameter(1.7−1.8 mm)whereas shorter shoot length(34.6−59.2 mm)at the stage of two leaves and one bud,compared with unpruned samples(14.0 g,1.7 mm,87.4 mm),among which heavy pruning in mid April and early May greatly accelerated the development of the following spring tea shoots.The levels of phytohormones(auxin,gibberellin 1,gibberellin 3,and trans-zeatin)were significantly increased in the spring buds of tea plants heavily pruned in May.The KEGG result indicated that the pathways of plant–pathogen interaction,plant hormone signal transduction and circadian rhythm were regulated by different pruning treatments.Heavy pruning in April or May,without autumn pruning was suitable for producing premium green tea due to the early development and the higher weight of 100 buds.This study provides scientific guidance to regulate the growth of the following spring tea shoots using plant pruning operations.Lu Lu Wenwen Luo Yanan Zheng Jing Jin Ruyi Liu Yiqing Lv Ying Ye Jianhui Ye 2022Beverage Plant Research2022,2,1:1
5Refined model analysis of basement rock degradation mechanism of heavy-haul railway tunnel显示文摘This study investigated the degradation mechanism of the surrounding rock of a heavy-haul railway under a water-rich condition,based on the construction of the Taihangshan tunnel for the Wari Railway,a heavy-haul railway that used standard construction practices for axle loads of 30 t.Remote monitoring demonstrated that the coupling effect between the dynamic load of a heavy-haul train and the groundwater leads to the deterioration and hollowing of the surrounding rock.This study clarified the void evolution process and deterioration mechanism of the basement rock under the comprehensive influence of the groundwater–train dynamic load using a refined discrete element numerical simulation.The results revealed that the groundwater was the primary influencing factor in the deterioration of the lower part of the heavy-haul railway tunnel.Rock particles were gradually lost under the effects of long-term erosion due to groundwater and heavy-haul trains,which inevitably damaged the basement rock after the construction was completed.Based on this observation,the critical conditions for the deterioration and attenuation law of the physical parameters of the basement rock were obtained.The results of this study can provide ideas and serve as a reference for the forecasting and disaster treatment of basement rock damage in heavy-haul railway tunnels.Zheng Li Ziqiang Li Ruyi Cai Yang Hua Lin Wang Dongming Gu 2021Underground Space2021,6,3:1
63D Hessian deconvolution of thick light-sheet z-stacks for high-contrast and high-SNR volumetric imaging显示文摘Due to its ability of optical sectioning and low phototoxicity,z-stacking light-sheet microscopy has been the tool of choice for in vivo imaging of the zebrafish brain.To image the zebrafish brain with a large field of view,the thickness of the Gaussian beam inevitably becomes several times greater than the system depth of field(DOF),where the fluorescence distributions outside the DOF will also be collected,blurring the image.In this paper,we propose a 3D deblurring method,aiming to redistribute the measured intensity of each pixel in a light-sheet image to in situ voxels by 3D deconvolution.By introducing a Hessian regularization term to maintain the continuity of the neuron dis-tribution and using a modified stripe removal algorithm,the reconstructed z stack images exhibit high contrast and a high signal-to-noise ratio.These performance characteristics can facilitate subsequent processing,such as 3D neuron registration,segmentation,and recognition.ZHE ZHANG DONGZHOU GOU FAN FENG RUYI ZHENG KE DU HONGRUN YANG GUANGYI ZHANG HUITAO ZHANG LOUIS TAO LIANGYI CHEN HENG MAO 2020Photonics Research2020,8,6:1
7Emergence of a novel reassortant avian influenza virus(H10N3) in Eastern China with high pathogenicity and respiratory droplet transmissibility to mammals显示文摘Decades have passed since the first discovery of H10-subtype avian influenza virus(AIV) in chickens in 1949,and it has been detected in many species including mammals such as minks,pigs,seals and humans.Cases of human infections with H10N8viruses identified in China in 2013 have raised widespread attention.Two novel reassortant H10N3 viruses were isolated from chickens in December 2019 in eastern China during routine surveillance for AIVs.The internal genes of these viruses were derived from genotype S(G57) H9N2 and were consistent with H5N6,H7N9 and H10N8,which cause fatal infections in humans.Their viral pathogenicity and transmissibility were further studied in different animal models.The two H10N3 isolates had low pathogenicity in chickens and were transmitted between chickens via direct contact.These viruses were highly pathogenic in mice and could be transmitted between guinea pigs via direct contact and respiratory droplets.More importantly,these viruses can bind to both human-type SAα-2,6-Gal receptors and avian-type SAα-2,3-Gal receptors.Asymptomatic shedding in chickens and good adaptability to mammals of these H10N3 isolates would make it easier to transmit to humans and pose a threat to public health.Kaituo Liu Pingyun Ding Yuru Pei Ruyi Gao Wenwen Han Huafen Zheng Zhuxing Ji Miao Cai Jinyuan Gu Xiuli Li Min Gu Jiao Hu Xiaowen Liu Shunlin Hu Pinghu Zhang Xiaobo Wang Xiaoquan Wang Xiufan Liu 2022Science China(Life Sciences)2022,65,5:1

9Enhanced pathogenicity and transmissibility of H9N2 avian influenza virus in mammals by hemagglutinin mutations combined with PB2-627K显示文摘H9N2 avian influenza viruses(AIVs)circulate globally in poultry and have become the dominant AIV subtype in China in recent years.Previously,we demonstrated that the H9N2 virus(A/chicken/Eastern China/SDKD1/2015)naturally harbors a mammalian-adaptive molecular factor(627K)in the PB2 protein and is weakly pathogenic in mice.Here,we focused on new markers for virulence in mammals.A mouse-adapted H9N2 virus was serially passaged in mice by infecting their lungs.As expected,infected mice showed clinical symptoms and died at passage six.A comparison between the wild-type and mouse-adapted virus sequences identified amino acid substitutions in the hemagglutinin(HA)protein.H9N2 viruses with the T187P t M227L double mutation exhibited an increased affinity to human-type(SAα2,6Gal)receptors and significantly enhanced viral attachment to mouse lung tissues,which contributed to enhancing viral replication and virulence in mice.Additionally,HA with the T187P t M227L mutation enabled H9N2 viral transmission in guinea pigs via direct contact.AIV pathogenicity in mice is a polygenic trait.Our results demonstrated that these HA mutations might be combined with PB2-627K to significantly increase H9N2 virulence in mice,and this enhanced virulence was achieved in other H9N2 AIVs by generating the same combination of mutations.In summary,our study identified novel key elements in the HA protein that are required for H9N2 pathogenicity in mice and provided valuable insights into pandemic preparedness against emerging H_(9)N_(2)strains.Kaituo Liu Yaqian Guo Huafen Zheng Zhuxing Ji Miao Cai Ruyi Gao Pinghu Zhang Xiaowen Liu Xiulong Xu Xiaoquan Wang Xiufan Liu 2023Virologica Sinica2023,38,1:0

11Changes in Polyphenols and Antioxidant Activities of Yingshan Yunwu Tea during Digestion in Vitro显示文摘[Objectives]To explore the change rule of polyphenol content and antioxidant activity of coarse old leaves of Yingshan Yunwu Tea in the process of human digestion.[Methods]The coarse and old leaves of Yunwu tea in Yingshan,Huanggang,Hubei Province were selected as the research object,and their digestion in vitro was simulated.The total polyphenol content was determined by Folin-phenol reagent colorimetric method,and the DPPH radical scavenging activity and total antioxidant activity were determined.[Results]After simulated gastrointestinal digestion in vitro,the polyphenol content and antioxidant activity of coarse old leaf tea soup showed a downward trend.After gastrointestinal digestion,the polyphenol content in tea infusion separately decreased by 31.8%and 8.5%;the scavenging rate of DPPH free radical was 97%before digestion,decreased to 92%after gastric digestion and 65%after intestinal digestion,which decreased by 5%and 27%,respectively;after gastrointestinal digestion,the total antioxidant capacity of tea soup decreased by 4.7%and 3.1%,respectively.[Conclusions]This study provided a reference for the development and application of coarse old leaves of Yingshan Yunwu tea,and provided a reference for the nutritional value evaluation and comprehensive utilization of coarse old leaves,so as to make the best use of coarse tea leaves and reduce the waste of resources.Ruyi ZHENG Jinjie ZHOU Wenzhuo WU Jianfeng ZHAN Peng WU Ting DING Weixin WANG 2024Medicinal Plant2024,15,2:0
12Feasibility and physics potential of detecting ^(8)B solar neutrinos at JUNO显示文摘The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory(JUNO)features a 20 kt multi-purpose underground liquid scintillator sphere as its main detector.Some of JUNO's features make it an excellent location for^8B solar neutrino measurements,such as its low-energy threshold,high energy resolution compared with water Cherenkov detectors,and much larger target mass compared with previous liquid scintillator detectors.In this paper,we present a comprehensive assessment of JUNO's potential for detecting^8B solar neutrinos via the neutrino-electron elastic scattering process.A reduced 2 MeV threshold for the recoil electron energy is found to be achievable,assuming that the intrinsic radioactive background^(238)U and^(232)Th in the liquid scintillator can be controlled to 10^(-17)g/g.With ten years of data acquisition,approximately 60,000 signal and 30,000 background events are expected.This large sample will enable an examination of the distortion of the recoil electron spectrum that is dominated by the neutrino flavor transformation in the dense solar matter,which will shed new light on the inconsistency between the measured electron spectra and the predictions of the standard three-flavor neutrino oscillation framework.IfDelta m^(2)_(21)=4.8times10^(-5);(7.5times10^(-5))eV^(2),JUNO can provide evidence of neutrino oscillation in the Earth at approximately the 3sigma(2sigma)level by measuring the non-zero signal rate variation with respect to the solar zenith angle.Moreover,JUNO can simultaneously measureDelta m^2_(21)using^8B solar neutrinos to a precision of 20% or better,depending on the central value,and to sub-percent precision using reactor antineutrinos.A comparison of these two measurements from the same detector will help understand the current mild inconsistency between the value of Delta m^2_(21)reported by solar neutrino experiments and the KamLAND 13Stabilization of heavy metals in sediments:A bioavailability-based assessment of carbon adsorbent efficacy using diffusive gradients in thin films显示文摘This study investigated the effectiveness of carbon adsorbents as remediation material for sediments contaminated with heavy metals and the feasibility of utilizing diffusive gradients in thin films(DGT)as a biomimetic tool to estimate the accumulation of heavy metals in Venerupis philippinaram(Manila clam).The results showed that carbon materials had significant inhibitory effects(14.0-53.0%)on the enrichment of heavy metals in organisms and the order of increasing overall inhibitory effect was:charcoal,peat,activated carbon,and biochar.There were significant correlations(P<0.0001)between the four heavy metals accumulated in Venerupis philippinaram and those accumulated in DGT devices after 28 days in the laboratory.Observed concentrations of heavy metals enriched in DGT(5.4-42.0%)were less than accumulations in Venerupis philippinaram.The results of in situ DGT applications showed significant correlations between the amount accumulated in DGT and the acid-soluble portion in sediments for both Cu and Pb,with positive linear correlations and R-squares of 0.97 and 0.92,respectively.These results supported the notion that a DGT device can be used as a biomimetic tool that predicts and monitors the accumulation of heavy metals in aquaculture ponds.Future studies should focus on improving the stabilization of heavy metals in sediments using different types of carbon sorbents,as well as minimizing simulation deviations using DGT.Yiqin Chen Yueyue Wang Ruyi Zheng Ju Wen Juan-Ying Li Qian Wang Jie Yin 2021Aquaculture and Fisheries2021,6,6:0

16Optimization of Extraction Process of Polyphenols from Chrysanthemum morifolium and the Development of Chrysanthemum Rice Wine显示文摘[Objectives]This study was conducted to provide a theoretical basis for the extraction and comprehensive utilization of functional active components of Chrysanthemum morifolium polyphenols.[Methods]With C.morifolium as a raw material,polyphenols were extracted by water extraction.The extraction process of polyphenols were optimized by single factor tests on solid-liquid ratio,extracting time and times.Old rice wine selected as the base wine was added with C.morifolium polyphenol extract,honey,citric acid and other auxiliary materials to prepare a kind of chrysanthemum old rice wine.Through sensory analysis combined with fuzzy mathematics comprehensive evaluation method,the optimal formula of chrysanthemum old rice wine was determined,and the corresponding physicochemical indicators of the obtained chrysanthemum old rice wine were tested.[Results]The optimal soaking process for C.morifolium was as follows:extraction time of 20 min,a solid-liquid ratio of C.morifolium to warm water at 1:40,extraction times of 3 times.The physical and chemical indicators of the chrysanthemum wine obtained from the above optimal formula were as follows:sugar content 5%,ethanol content 11%,and pH value 4.04.The chrysanthemum old rice wine obtained was clear and transparent,and the fragrance of chrysanthemum was coordinated with the mellow aroma of rice wine.The taste was refreshing and suitable for the vast majority of people to drink.[Conclusions]The new type of chrysanthemum old rice wine combines the polyphenolic active substances in C.morifolium with the low ethanol content of old rice wine,which not only improves the utilization rate of C.morifolium,but also strengthens the health function of old rice wine products,improves the quality of old rice wine,and promotes the healthy and rapid development of the old rice wine industry.Weiyi CHEN Yufeng ZHANG Zoukai HUANG Ruyi ZHENG Caiyun HUANG Xunjian CHEN Yuhan FU Weixin WANG 2023Agricultural Biotechnology2023,12,5:0

18IL2-inducible T-cell Kinase is Required for HBV-induced Type T Interferon Expression and Antiviral Response显示文摘Background and Aims:Hepatitis B is a vaccine-preventable liver infection caused by the hepatitis B virus(HBV),and is seen as a serious global health problem.HBV infection induces the expression of type I interferon(IFN),including IFN-αand IFN-β,which have anti-HBV activities,and have been used for HBV treatment.IL2-inducible T-cell kinase(ITK)is a tyrosine kinase,which regulates T-cell differentiation and activation,while its precise effects on type I IFN production during HBV infection remain unknown.Methods:We monitored the ITK expression in peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs)from healthy donors and patients with acute and chronic HBV infection.We used ITK inhibitor ibrutinib to treat hepatocytes and evaluated the type I IFN expression after HBV infection.We also administrated ibrutinib to mice and evaluated its effect on HBV infection in vivo.We generated ITK,suppressor of cytokine signaling 1(SOCS1)knockout and ITK/SOCS1 double knockout cells using CRISPR,and monitored the HBV-induced type I IFN production.Results:ITK and type I IFN were upregulated in patients with acute HBV infection.Inhibition of ITK by ibrutinib suppressed HBVinduced expression of type I IFN mRNA in mice.ITK knockout cells had decreased IRF3 activation but promoted the expression of SOCS1.ITK negatively regulated SOSC1 expression.The down regulation of type I IFN in ITK knockout cells after HBV stimulation was abolished in the absence of SOCS1.Conclusions:ITK regulated HBV-induced expression of type I IFN mRNA by modulating SOCS1.Mengxin Lin Ruyi Guo Dawu Zeng Jiangfu Liu Minghui Zheng Zhijun Su 2023Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2023,11,4:0
