Internet of Things to network smart devices for ecosystem monitoring显示文摘Smart, real-time, low-cost, and distributed ecosystem monitoring is essential for understanding and managing rapidly changing ecosystems. However, new techniques in the big data era have rarely been introduced into operational ecosystem monitoring, particularly for fragile ecosystems in remote areas. We introduce the Internet of Things(IoT) techniques to establish a prototype ecosystem monitoring system by developing innovative smart devices and using IoT technologies for ecosystem monitoring in isolated environments. The developed smart devices include four categories: large-scale and nonintrusive instruments to measure evapotranspiration and soil moisture, in situ observing systems for CO2 and d13 C associated with soil respiration, portable and distributed devices for monitoring vegetation variables, and Bi-CMOS cameras and pressure trigger sensors for terrestrial vertebrate monitoring. These new devices outperform conventional devices and are connected to each other via wireless communication networks. The breakthroughs in the ecosystem monitoring IoT include new data loggers and longdistance wireless sensor network technology that supports the rapid transmission of data from devices to wireless networks. The applicability of this ecosystem monitoring IoT is verified in three fragile ecosystems, including a karst rocky desertification area, the National Park for Amur Tigers, and the oasis-desert ecotone in China. By integrating these devices and technologies with an ecosystem monitoring information system, a seamless data acquisition, transmission, processing, and application IoT is created. The establishment of this ecosystem monitoring IoT will serve as a new paradigm for ecosystem monitoring and therefore provide a platform for ecosystem management and decision making in the era of big data.Xin Li Ning Zhao Rui Jin Shaomin Liu Xiaomin Sun Xuefa Wen Dongxiu Wu Yan Zhou Jianwen Guo Shiping Chen Ziwei Xu Mingguo Ma Tianming Wang Yonghua Qu Xinwei Wang Fangming Wu Yuke Zhou 2019Science Bulletin2019,64,17:10
Nitrogen-doped Carbon Nanospheres-Modified Graphitic Carbon Nitride with Outstanding Photocatalytic Activity显示文摘Metals and metal oxides are widely used as photo/electro-catalysts for environmental remediation. However, there are many issues related to these metal-based catalysts for practical applications, such as high cost and detrimental environmental impact due to metal leaching.Carbon-based catalysts have the potential to overcome these limitations. In this study, monodisperse nitrogen-doped carbon nanospheres(NCs)were synthesized and loaded onto graphitic carbon nitride(g-C3N4,GCN)via a facile hydrothermal method for photocatalytic removal of sulfachloropyridazine(SCP).The prepared metal-free GCN-NC exhibited remarkably enhanced efficiency in SCP degradation. The nitrogen content in NC critically influences the physicochemical properties and performances of the resultant hybrids. The optimum nitrogen doping concentration was identified at 6.0 wt%.The SCP removal rates can be improved by a factor of 4.7 and 3.2,under UV and visible lights,by the GCN-NC composite due to the enhanced charge mobility and visible light harvesting. The mechanism of the improved photocatalytic performance and band structure alternation were further investigated by density functional theory(DFT)calculations. The DFT results confirm the high capability of the GCN-NC hybrids to activate the electron–hole pairs by reducing the band gap energy and efficiently separating electron/hole pairs.Superoxide and hydroxyl radicals are subsequently produced, leading to the efficient SCP removal.Qiaoran Liu Hao Tian Zhenghua Dai Hongqi Sun Jian Liu Zhimin Ao Shaobin Wang Chen Han Shaomin Liu 2020Nano-Micro Letters2020,12,2:2

Circular RNA SMARCA5 suppressed non-small cell lung cancer progression by regulating miR-670-5p/RBM24 axis显示文摘Circular RNAs(circRNAs)have good stability and long half-life in blood and other body fluid, and possess regulatory effects on various biological processes as miRNA/RNA-binding protein sponges,or by competing endogenous RNA,indicating their great potential as biomarkers or targets of cancer therapy. In this study,we mainly explored the role and mechanism of circular RNA SMARCA5(circsSMARCA5)in non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC).Quantitative RT-PCR was applied to measure the expression levels of genes, and then, the relationships among circsSMARCA5,microRNA-670-5p(miR-670-5p),and RBM24 were further analyzed.Animal and cell experiments were performed to explore the functions of circsSMARCA5 in NSCLC cells. The results showed that circsSMARCA5 was expressed at low level in NSCLC tissues and cells, while miR-670-5p had high level in NSCLC tissues.Dual luciferase reporter assay verified that miR-670-5p was the target of circsSMARCA5,and RBM24 has the binding site of miR-670-5p.Further analysis showed that circsSMARCA5 could negatively regulate miR-670-5p and had positive relationship with RBM24.Moreover,circsSMARCA5 obviously inhibited tumor growth in vivo, reduced cell proliferation and increased cell apoptosis in vitro, while miR-670-5p mimic or RBM24 knockdown could reverse these effects.Thus,circsSMARCA5 may serve as an NSCLC suppressor by regulating the miR-670-5p/RBM24 axis, and it may have the potential to be a biomarker or therapeutic target for NSCLC.Danjie Zhang Yuefeng Ma Zhenchuan Ma Shiyuan Liu Liangzhang Sun Jianzhong Li Feng Zhao Yu Li Jin Zhang Shaomin Li Jiantao Jiang 2020Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2020,52,10:1

Protein-activated atomic layer deposition for robust crude-oil-repellent hierarchical nano-armored membranes显示文摘Atomic layer deposition(ALD)offers unique capabilities to fabricate atomically engineered porous materials with precise pore tuning and multi-functionalization for diverse applications like advanced membrane separations towards sustainable energy-water systems. However, current ALD technique is inhibited on most non-polar polymeric membranes due to lack of accessible nucleation sites. Here,we report a facile method to efficiently promote ALD coating on hydrophobic surface of polymeric membranes via novel protein activation/sensitization.As a proof of concept,TiO2 ALD-coated membranes activated by bovine serum albumin exhibit remarkable superhydrophilicity, ultralow underwater crude oil adhesion, and robust tolerance to rigorous environments including acid, alkali, saline, and ethanol. Most importantly, excellent cyclable crude oil-in-water emulsion separation performance can be achieved. The mechanism for activation/sensitization is rooted in reactivity for a particular set of amino acids.Furthermore, the universality of protein-sensitized ALD is demonstrated using common egg white, promising numerous potential usages in biomedical engineering, environmental remediation, lowcarbon manufacturing, catalysis, and beyond.Xiaobin Yang Pan Sun Yajie Wen Anil U.Mane Jeffrey W.Elam Jun Ma Shaomin Liu Seth B.Darling Lu Shao 2024Science Bulletin2024,69,2:0
Feasibility and physics potential of detecting ^(8)B solar neutrinos at JUNO显示文摘The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory(JUNO)features a 20 kt multi-purpose underground liquid scintillator sphere as its main detector. Some of JUNO's features make it an excellent location for^8B solar neutrino measurements, such as its low-energy threshold, high energy resolution compared with water Cherenkov detectors, and much larger target mass compared with previous liquid scintillator detectors. In this paper,we present a comprehensive assessment of JUNO's potential for detecting^8B solar neutrinos via the neutrino-electron elastic scattering process.A reduced 2 MeV threshold for the recoil electron energy is found to be achievable, assuming that the intrinsic radioactive background^(238)U and^(232)Th in the liquid scintillator can be controlled to 10^(-17)g/g.With ten years of data acquisition, approximately 60,000 signal and 30,000 background events are expected. This large sample will enable an examination of the distortion of the recoil electron spectrum that is dominated by the neutrino flavor transformation in the dense solar matter, which will shed new light on the inconsistency between the measured electron spectra and the predictions of the standard three-flavor neutrino oscillation framework.IfDelta m^(2)_(21)=4.8times10^(-5);(7.5times10^(-5))eV^(2),JUNO can provide evidence of neutrino oscillation in the Earth at approximately the 3sigma(2sigma)level by measuring the non-zero signal rate variation with respect to the solar zenith angle. Moreover,JUNO can simultaneously measureDelta m^2_(21)using^8B solar neutrinos to a precision of 20% or better, depending on the central value, and to sub-percent precision using reactor antineutrinos.A comparison of these two measurements from the same detector will help understand the current mild inconsistency between the value of Delta m^2_(21)reported by solar neutrino experiments and the KamLAND experiment.Angel Abusleme Thomas Adam Shakeel Ahmad Sebastiano Aiello Muhammad Akram Nawab Ali Fengpeng An Guangpeng An Qi An Giuseppe Andronico Nikolay Anfimov Vito Antonelli Tatiana Antoshkina Burin 13Novel method for identifying wheat leaf disease images based on differential amplification convolutional neural network显示文摘In this study,a differential amplification convolutional neural network(DACNN)was proposed and used in the identification of wheat leaf disease images with ideal accuracy. The branches added between the deep convolutional layers can amplify small differences between the real output and the expected output, which made the weight updating more sensitive to the light errors return in the backpropagation pass and significantly improved the fitting capability.Firstly, since there is no large-scale wheat leaf disease images dataset at present, the wheat leaf disease dataset was constructed which included eight kinds of wheat leaf images, and five kinds of data augmentation methods were used to expand the dataset.Secondly,DACNN combined four classifiers:Softmax, support vector machine(SVM),K-nearest neighbor(KNN)and Random Forest to evaluate the wheat leaf disease dataset. Finally, the DACNN was compared with the models:LeNet-5,AlexNet,ZFNet and Inception V3.The extensive results demonstrate that DACNN is better than other models. The average recognition accuracy obtained on the wheat leaf disease dataset is 95.18%.Mengping Dong Shaomin Mu Aiju Shi Wenqian Mu Wenjie Sun 2020International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2020,13,4:0
Assessment and improvement of Noah-MP for simulating water and heat exchange over alpine grassland in growing season显示文摘Alpine grassland is the main ecosystem of the Tibetan Plateau(TP),thus accurate simulation of water and heat exchange in the grassland will significantly enhance the understanding of the land-atmosphere interaction process on the TP.In this study,we assessed and improved the ensemble numerical simulations of the community Noah land surface model with multiparameterization options(Noah-MP)by using observations collected from four alpine grassland observation sites. The four observation sites belong to the upper Heihe River Basin Integrated Observatory Network located in the northeastern part of the TP.First,an ensemble of 1008 numerical simulation experiments, based on multiparameterization options of seven physical processes/variables in the Noah-MP,was carried out for the vegetation growing season. The Taylor skill score was then used to assess the model performance and select the optimal combination of parameterization options for a more exact simulation of the water and heat exchange in alpine grassland. The accuracy of Noah-MP simulation was further improved by introducing new parameterizations of thermal roughness length, soil hydraulic properties, and vertical root distribution. It was found that:(1)Simulation of water and heat exchange over alpine grassland in the growing season was mainly affected by the parameterizations of dynamic vegetation, canopy stomatal resistance, runoff and groundwater dynamics, and surface exchange coefficient for heat transfer.Selection of different parameterization options for these four physical processes/variables led to large differences in the simulation of water and heat fluxes.(2)The optimal combination of parameterization options selected in the current Noah-MP framework suffered from significant overestimation of sensible heat flux(H)and underestimation of soil moisture(θ)at all observation sites.(3)The overestimation of H was significantly improved by introducing a new parameterization of thermal roughness length.Furthermore, the underestimation ofθwas resolved by introducing a new parameterization of soil hydraulic properties that considered the organic matter effect and a new vertical distribution function for the vegetation root system. The results of this study provide an important reference for further improving the simulation of water and heat exchange by using the land surface model in alpine grassland.Shuang SUN Donghai ZHENG Shaomin LIU Ziwei XU Tongren XU Hui ZHENG Xiaofan YANG 2022Science China Earth Sciences2022,65,3:0
