1One-year clinical study of NeuroR egen scaffold implantation following scar resection in complete chronic spinal cord injury patients显示文摘The objective of this clinical study was to assess the safety and feasibility of the collagen scaffold, Neuro Regen scaffold, one year after scar tissue resection and implantation. Scar tissue is a physical and chemical barrier that prevents neural regeneration. However, identification of scar tissue is still a major challenge. In this study, the nerve electrophysiology method was used to distinguish scar tissue from normal neural tissue, and then different lengths of scars ranging from 0.5–4.5 cm were surgically resected in five complete chronic spinal cord injury(SCI) patients. The NeuroR egen scaffold along with autologous bone marrow mononuclear cells(BMMCs), which have been proven to promote neural regeneration and SCI recovery in animal models, were transplanted into the gap in the spinal cord following scar tissue resection. No obvious adverse effects related to scar resection or Neuro Regen scaffold transplantation were observed immediately after surgery or at the 12-month follow-up. In addition, patients showed partially autonomic nervous function improvement, and the recovery of somatosensory evoked potentials(SSEP) from the lower limbs was also detected. 2The action of medicinal animal horns on Escherichia coli growth investigated by microcalorimetry and chemometric analysis显示文摘The action of Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum (CCP), Cornu Cervi (CC) and Cornu Saigae Tataricae (CST) on Escherichia coli growth were investigated using microcalorimetry to find the heat change regularity of microbial growth. The similarity of thermogenic curves and thermodynamics parameters were investigated as evaluation index, such as the growth rate constant in the first expo- nential phase (k1), maximum power in the first exponential phase (P1), maximum power in the secondary exponential phase (P2), peak time in the first exponential phase (T1), peak time in the stationary phase (T2) and the total heat production in stage 1 (Q1), and the total heat production in stage 2 (Q2). Chemometric analysis was used as a reference for the bioactivity evaluation of medicinal animal horns. The results indicated that the similarity between CST and the control was smaller than that between CCP, CC and the control. Both CCP and CC could increase the heat in the microbial growth, whereas CST decreased it. 3Long-term clinical observation of patients with acute and chronic complete spinal cord injury after transplantation of Neuro Regen scaffold显示文摘Spinal cord injury(SCI)often results in an inhibitory environment at the injury site.In our previous studies,transplantation of a scaffold combined with stem cells was proven to induce neural regeneration in animal models of complete SCI.Based on these preclinical studies,collagen scaffolds loaded with the patients’own bone marrow mononuclear cells or human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells were transplanted into SCI patients.Fifteen patients with acute complete SCI and 51 patients with chronic complete SCI were enrolled and followed up for 2 to 5 years.No serious adverse events related to functional scaffold transplantation were observed.Among the patients with acute SCI,five patients achieved expansion of their sensory positions and six patients recovered sensation in the bowel or bladder.Additionally,four patients regained voluntary walking ability accompanied by reconnection of neural signal transduction.Among patients with chronic SCI,16 patients achieved expansion of their sensation level and 30 patients experienced enhanced reflexive defecation sensation or increased skin sweating below the injury site.Nearly half of the patients with chronic cervical SCI developed enhanced finger activity.These long-term follow-up results suggest that functional scaffold transplantation may represent a feasible treatment for patients with complete SCI.Fengwu Tang Jiaguang Tang Yannan Zhao Jiaojiao Zhang Zhifeng Xiao Bing Chen Guang Han Na Yin Xianfeng Jiang Changyu Zhao Shixiang Cheng Ziqiang Wang Yumei Chen Qiaoling Chen Keran Song Zhiwei Zhang Junjie Niu Lingjun Wang Qin Shi Liang Chen Huilin Yang Shuxun Hou Sai Zhang Jianwu Dai 2022Science China(Life Sciences)2022,65,5:3

5Silica nanoparticle is a possible safe carrier for gene therapy显示文摘In order to develop a safe and effective gene therapy carrier, some toxicological and biodynamical ex- periments were carried out on silica nanoparticles (SiNPs). First we prepared SiNPs with appropriate portions of cyclo- hexane, deionized water and ethyl silicate, and then trans- fected the modified SiNPs and GFP plasmid DNA complex into the HT1080 cells to test the effectiveness of transfection for gene therapy. At the same time, we injected the SiNPs into a number of mice through tail vein. Then we made the mice crossed to evaluate the acute, long-term and reproduc- tive toxicity. In vivo distribution analysis and pathological examination were made on both adult mice and their off- spring. SiNPs were uniform and had an average diameter of 40 nm, and the modified SiNPs carried exogenous DNA molecules into target cells and the transferred GFP fusion gene was effectively expressed in the cells. The SiNPs injected via tail vein were widely distributed in almost all of tissues, and the injected mice had the ability to reproduce normally. 6Ingeniously designed Ni-Mo-S/ZnIn_(2)S_(4) composite for multi-photocatalytic reaction systems显示文摘Molybdenum disulfide (MoS_(2)) with low cost, high activity and high earth abundance has been found to be a promising catalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), but its catalytic activity is considerably limited due to its inert basal planes. Here, through the combination of theory and experiment, we propose that doping Ni in MoS_(2) as catalyst can make it have excellent catalytic activity in different reaction systems. In the EY/TEOA system, the maximum hydrogen production rate of EY/Ni-Mo-S is 2.72 times higher than that of pure EY, which confirms the strong hydrogen evolution activity of Ni-Mo-S nanosheets as catalysts. In the lactic acid and Na_(2)S/Na_(2)SO_(3) systems, when Ni-Mo-S is used as co-catalyst to compound with ZnIn_(2)S_(4) (termed as Ni-Mo-S/ZnIn_(2)S_(4)), the maximum hydrogen evolution rates in the two systems are 5.28 and 2.33 times higher than those of pure ZnIn_(2)S_(4), respectively. The difference in HER enhancement is because different systems lead to different sources of protons, thus affecting hydrogen evolution activity. Theoretically, we further demonstrate that the Ni-Mo-S nanosheets have a narrower band gap than MoS_(2), which is conducive to the rapid transfer of charge carriers and thus result in multi-photocatalytic reaction systems with excellent activity. 8Inflammatory phenotype of osteoarthritis and its potential therapies显示文摘Introduction:Osteoarthritis(OA)is the most common joint disorder in the world but there are no approved therapies to slow disease progression.Historically,OA has been considered a wear and tear joint disease and efforts to identify and develop disease modifying therapies have primarily focused on inhibiting cartilage degradation directly.However,increasing studies have suggested that inflammation is a key player of joint pathology in some OA patients and also a link between obesity and OA.Therefore,targeting inflammation in these patients could be a promising therapeutic strategy.Areas Covered:In this review,we collate the latest evidence on the relationship between inflammation and OA which allows to propose the inflammatory phenotype of OA,and summarize major results of some emerging therapies targeting this phenotype in clinical trials which could implicate future directions for OA treatment.Expert Opinion:The authors believe early diagnosis,phenotyping OA patients and precise therapies would expedite the development of DMOADs targeting OA inflammatory phenotype.In the future,well-designed clinical trials including appropriate subgroups or phenotypes of patients according to underlying causes and mechanisms of OA are expected for investigational therapies.Yumei Cao Su'an Tang Changhai Ding 2021Rheumatology & Autoimmunity2021,1,2:1

11SNP-based identification of QTL for resistance to black point caused by Bipolaris sorokiniana in bread wheat显示文摘Black point disease caused by Bipolaris sorokiniana is a problem in wheat production worldwide.We aimed to identify major quantitative trait loci(QTL)for resistance to black point and develop molecular markers for marker-assisted selection(MAS).A recombinant inbred line(RIL)population derived from a cross between Wanyuanbai 1(susceptible)and SN4143(resistant)was evaluated for black point response at three locations during two years under artificial inoculation with B.sorokiniana,providing data for six environments.Thirty resistant and 30 susceptible RILs were selected to form resistant and susceptible bulks,respectively,that were genotyped by the wheat 660 K SNP array;685 singlenucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)were identified,among which 385(56.2%)and 115(16.8%)were located on chromosomes 4 A and 2 B,respectively.Bulked segregant RNA-Seq analysis identified candidate regions on chromosomes 4 A(4.60–40.28 Mb)and 5 A(1.22–48.47 Mb).Genetic linkage maps were constructed for chromosomes 2 B,4 A,and 5 A using 59 polymorphic d CAPS and SSR markers.Finally,two QTL,designated QBB.hau-4 A and QBB.hau-5 A,were detected on chromosomes 4 A and 5 A,respectively.The resistance allele of QBB.hau-4 A was derived from SN4143,and that of QBB.hau-5 A came from Wanyuanbai 1.QBB.hau-4 A with a large and consistent effect(15.1%)is likely to be a new locus for black point resistance.The markers linked to QBB.hau-4 A and QBB.hau-5 A have potential application in MASbased breeding.Qiaoyun Li Runyu Hu Zhenfeng Guo Siyu Wang Chuang Gao Yumei Jiang Jianwei Tang Guihong Yin 2022The Crop Journal2022,10,3:1
12Chlamydia trachomatis infection in the genital tractis associated with inflammation and hypospermia inthe infertile male of China显示文摘Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) infection is the most prevalent sexually transmitted bacterial disease worldwide. However, unlikethat in female infertility, the role of CT infection in male infertility remains controversial. The objective of this retrospective studywas to explore the impacts of CT infection in the genital tract on sperm quality, sperm acrosin activity, antisperm antibody levels,and inflammation in a large cohort of infertile males in China. A total of 7154 semen samples were collected from infertile malesubjects, 416 of whom were CT positive (CT+ group) and 6738 of whom were CT negative (CT− group), in our hospital betweenJanuary 2016 and December 2018. Routine semen parameters (semen volume, pH, sperm concentration, viability, motility,morphology, etc.), granulocyte elastase levels, antisperm antibody levels, and sperm acrosin activity were compared between theCT+ and CT− groups. Our results showed that CT infection was significantly correlated with an abnormally low semen volume, aswell as an increased white blood cell count and granulocyte elastase level (all P < 0.05) in the semen of infertile males;otherroutine semen parameters were not negatively impacted. The antisperm antibody level and sperm acrosin activity were not affectedby CT infection. 14Formulation of lyotropic liquid crystal emulsion based on natural sucrose ester and its tribological behavior as novel lubricant显示文摘The tribological behavior of oil-in-water emulsions formulated with natural lyotropic liquid crystal(LLC)emulsifiers based on natural sucrose ester was studied for the first time.Polarized optical microscopy,synchrotron radiation small-angle X-ray scattering,wide-angle X-ray scattering,and synchrotron radiation infrared microspectroscopy demonstrated that LLC emulsifiers were tightly ordered at the oil–water interface with a distinct nematic texture.The viscosity of emulsion was observed to change over time.Moreover,the zeta potential and laser particle size distribution verified the emulsion’s satisfactory stability.The frictional shearing test proved that the coefficient of friction of the emulsion versus pure oil decreased by 34.2%.The coefficient of friction of the emulsion with liquid crystal decreased 10.1%versus that without liquid crystal.Although liquid crystal emulsion did not exhibit outstanding anti-wear performance compared with pure oil,its wear volume was 29.4%less than the emulsion without liquid crystal.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning electron microscope–energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(SEM–EDS)proved that the tribo-film of the emulsion with liquid crystal was formed synergistically by the liquid crystal phase with the base oil.The formulation affecting the lubricant quality was further studied by orthogonal experiments.The resulting Stribeck curve behavior suggested that proper composition with a slightly higher viscosity can better reduce friction in both boundary lubrication and mixed lubrication regimes.The lubrication mechanism indicated that the periodically ordered liquid crystal was transported to the sliding asperity in the form of emulsion droplets,which bored the pressure and released the oil to form a tribo-film.This LLC emulsion is environmentally friendly and potentially non-irritant to the skin.Thus,it has promising application prospects as novel water-based and biological lubricants.Yumei GUO Jiusheng LI Xiaojie ZHOU Yuzhao TANG Xiangqiong ZENG 2022Friction2022,10,11:0
15Characteristics of Mechanical Asphyxia:A Retrospective Epidemiological Study in Two Developed Cities in China显示文摘Background:Mechanical asphyxia(MA)is multi-classified.Some epidemiological characteristics are shared and the others different among different MA types.Aims and Objectives:To reveal the characteristics of different types of MA and provide reference data for forensic identification of MA.Materials and Methods:We analyzed 913 cases to reveal the epidemiological characteristics of MA in Dongguan and Guangzhou,China.Results:Seven types of MA were identified and strangulation accounted for up to 89.2%.Those aged 20-29 were the most susceptible to all types,except for traumatic and positional asphyxia.Suicide accounted for 96.6%of hanging cases,and accident was the main manner of death in cases of choking,traumatic,and positional asphyxia.Homicide was the most common in cases of ligature strangulation(LS),manual strangulation(MS),smothering,and asphyxia concomitant with lethal mechanical injury.The homicide rate in LS was positively correlated with the rate of female victims(P<0.001,OR=21.14).In MS,the ratio of female:male was 101:15 in homicide.Compared to native residents,migrant workers were more likely to suffer from LS and MS.Rope was used in 50.8%of hanging cases,while LS tools were evenly distributed.Ligature marks were mostly found above the thyroid cartilage in both hanging and LS cases.The U shaped marks were shown in 51.01%of hanging cases but absent in LS cases.In LS,ligature marks completely encircling the neck,discontinuous marks,as well as≥two marks,were more(P<0.001)than in hanging.In LS and MS cases,abrasion and subcutaneous hemorrhages on the neck were more frequent than in hanging cases(P=0.004 and P<0.001),but the difference in frequency of blister marks was opposite(P<0.001).Conclusion:In summary,this study revealed the epidemiological characteristics of the MA cases in Guangzhou and Dongguan cities.The characteristics of death scene and autopsy findings are important in differentiation of different types of MA,especially between suicide and homicide.Erwen Huang Guoli Lv Yumei Wang Qiangwei Wang Jing Zhang Lie Liang Ben Liu Wen Yang Chuanyi Tang Chao Liu Jianding Cheng 2023Journal of Forensic Science and Medicine2023,9,1:0
16Feasibility and physics potential of detecting ^(8)B solar neutrinos at JUNO显示文摘The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory(JUNO)features a 20 kt multi-purpose underground liquid scintillator sphere as its main detector.Some of JUNO's features make it an excellent location for^8B solar neutrino measurements,such as its low-energy threshold,high energy resolution compared with water Cherenkov detectors,and much larger target mass compared with previous liquid scintillator detectors.In this paper,we present a comprehensive assessment of JUNO's potential for detecting^8B solar neutrinos via the neutrino-electron elastic scattering process.A reduced 2 MeV threshold for the recoil electron energy is found to be achievable,assuming that the intrinsic radioactive background^(238)U and^(232)Th in the liquid scintillator can be controlled to 10^(-17)g/g.With ten years of data acquisition,approximately 60,000 signal and 30,000 background events are expected.This large sample will enable an examination of the distortion of the recoil electron spectrum that is dominated by the neutrino flavor transformation in the dense solar matter,which will shed new light on the inconsistency between the measured electron spectra and the predictions of the standard three-flavor neutrino oscillation framework.IfDelta m^(2)_(21)=4.8times10^(-5);(7.5times10^(-5))eV^(2),JUNO can provide evidence of neutrino oscillation in the Earth at approximately the 3sigma(2sigma)level by measuring the non-zero signal rate variation with respect to the solar zenith angle.Moreover,JUNO can simultaneously measureDelta m^2_(21)using^8B solar neutrinos to a precision of 20% or better,depending on the central value,and to sub-percent precision using reactor antineutrinos.A comparison of these two measurements from the same detector will help understand the current mild inconsistency between the value of Delta m^2_(21)reported by solar neutrino experiments and the KamLAND 17中国儿童骨肉瘤与青少年骨肉瘤患者的相互比较分析(英文)显示文摘Objective:The aim of this study was to assess the differences in clinical appearance and prognosis of osteosarcoma between preadolescent and adolescent in Chinese patients and investigate whether age at diagnosis is a prognostic indicator.Methods:Between May 2002 and May 2009,ninety-six children with high-grade osteosarcoma treated at our institute were stratified according to the age of 10.There were 19 preadolescents(≤ 10 years) and 77 adolescents(10 years < age ≤ 19 years),and their medical records were reviewed and compared using Fisher exact tests.Overall survival and disease-free survival was estimated by Kaplan-Meier methods and compared using log-rank tests.The prognostic significance of the various factors on survival was examined by Cox regression analysis.Results:There were no significant differences in terms of Karnofsky Performance Status(KPS) score,Enneking stage,tumor location,histologic type,pathologic fracture,tumor necrosis rate,tumor size,relapse and frequencies of adjuvant chemotherapy between the two groups.A high proportion of preadolescent patients was treated with amputation(78.9% vs.44.2%;P = 0.01).The 5-year survival of the preadolescent and adolescent groups was(38 ± 14)% and(33 ± 10)%,and the 2-year disease free survival for each group was(45 ± 12)% and(44.4 ± 6.3)%,respectively.Our study showed that age did not have any statistical significance for survival(P = 0.803).Univariate analysis indicated that KPS score;frequencies of adjuvant chemotherapy,tumor size and relapse were significantly related to overall survival.Multivariate Cox regression analysis revealed that both frequencies of adjuvant chemotherapy and relapse were independently prognostic factors for survival.Conclusion:Clinical characteristics and survival between the preadolescents and adolescents with osteosarcoma in China were compatible.So we suggested that there did not need to treat preadolescents patients by alternative and/or aggressive therapies compared with adolescent patients.Weixiang Qi Zan Shen Lina Tang Aina He Yumei Yang Feng Lin Yang Yao 2012The Chinese-German Journal of Clinical Oncology2012,11,5:0
18The transcription factor CsS40 negatively regulates TCS1 expression and caffeine biosynthesis in connection to leaf senescence in Camellia sinensis显示文摘Caffeine is considered as one of the most important bioactive components in the popular plant beverages tea,cacao,and coffee,but as a wide-spread plant secondary metabolite its biosynthetic regulation at transcription level remains largely unclear.Here,we report a novel transcription factor Camellia sinensis Senescnece 40(CsS40)as a caffeine biosynthesis regulator,which was discovered during screening a yeast expression library constructed from tea leaf cDNAs for activation of tea caffeine synthase(TCS1)promoter.Besides multiple hits of the non-self-activation CsS40 clones that bound to and activated TCS1 promoter in yeast-one-hybrid assays,a split-luciferase complementation assay demonstrated that CsS40 acts as a transcription factor to activate the CsTCS1 gene and EMSA assay also demonstrated that CsS40 bound to the TCS1 gene promoter.Consistently,immunofluorescence data indicated that CsS40-GFP fusion was localized in the nuclei of tobacco epidermal cells.The expression pattern of CsS40 in‘Fuding Dabai’developing leaves was opposite to that of TCS1;and knockdown and overexpression of CsS40 in tea leaf calli significantly increased and decreased TCS1 expression levels,respectively.The expression levels of CsS40 were also negatively correlated to caffeine accumulation in developing leaves and transgenic calli of‘Fuding Dabai’.Furthermore,overexpression of CsS40 reduced the accumulation of xanthine and hypoxanthine in tobacco plants,meanwhile,increased their susceptibility to aging.CsS40 expression in tea leaves was also induced by senescence-promoting hormones and environmental factors.Taken together,we showed that a novel senescence-related factor CsS40 negatively regulates TCS1 and represses caffeine accumulation in tea cultivar‘Fuding Dabai’.The study provides new insights into caffeine biosynthesis regulation by a plant-specific senescence regulator in tea plants in connection to leaf senescence and hormone signaling.Xinzhuan Yao Hufang Chen Antao Ai Fen Wang Shanshan Lian Hu Tang Yihe Jiang Yujie Jiao Yumei He Tong Li Litang Lu 2023Horticulture Research2023,10,9:0
19Investigation of internally finned LED heat sinks显示文摘A novel heat sink is proposed, which is composed of a perforated cylinder and internally arranged fins.Numerical studies are performed on the natural convection heat transfer from internally finned heat sinks; experimental studies are carried out to validate the numerical results. To compare the thermal performances of internally finned heat sinks and externally finned heat sinks, the effects of the overall diameter, overall height, and installation direction on maximum temperature, air flow and heat transfer coefficient are investigated. The results demonstrate that internally finned heat sinks show better thermal performance than externally finned heat sinks; the maximum temperature of internally finned heat sinks decreases by up to 20% compared with the externally finned heat sinks. The existence of a perforated cylinder and the installation direction of the heat sink affect the thermal performance significantly; it is shown that the heat transfer coefficient of the heat sink with the perforated cylinder is improved greater than that with the imperforated cylinder by up to 34%, while reducing the mass of the heat sink by up to 13%.Bin Li Lun Xiong Chuan Lai Yumei Tang 2018Journal of Semiconductors2018,39,3:0
20Preparation and characterization of nano-crystalline diamond films on glass substrate显示文摘Adherent nano diamond films were successfully deposited on glass substrate by microwave plasma assisted CVD method in H2-CH4 and Ar-CH4 environment. Raman, AFM (Atomic Force Microscope), TEM (Transmission Electron Microscope), FTIR,and Nano Indentation techniques were used for characterization of the obtained nano diamond films. It was found that the average grain size was less than 100 nm with a surface roughness value as low as 2 nm. The nano diamond films were found to have excellent transparency in visible and IR spectrum range, and were as hard as natural diamond.
